THE BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS 1/4 MILE SPRINT SATURDAY 2 nd SEPTEMBER 2017 MADEIRA DRIVE, BRIGHTON, EAST SUSSEX Dear Entrant, Please find enclosed the entry form and supplementary regulations for the Brighton Speed Trials 2017. You may not be aware but as we are an invited class within the main Brighton and Hove Motor Club Speed Trial event we have a strict entry limit imposed upon us, this year B&HMC have increased our limit from 60 to 75 machines. Also for this year only you will be pleased to know that CTA Fire of Sittingbourne are sponsoring the motorcycle classes and will be paying prize to the first, second and third place finishes in all seven classes. The winners of class one will be awarded on the basis of consistency, all other classes will be awarded on time. We have always endeavoured to provide a good days sport to the competitors, but it must be accepted that as this is a very public event, the spectators also deserve a good turnout. In the past selection has taken place on a past performance basis, plus attendance at our clubs supporting events, it is not fair that those who appear only once a year at Brighton receive the same consideration as those who have run year after year at our other events to support their club. We have very seriously considered many alternative methods of selection, but in the end we have decided to follow the system adopted by most clubs and that is to divide the entry between the regular supporters of the Sprint Section, previous year first and second placemen, and the balance selected on a known performance record, this we trust will be the most equitable way. Would you please note the class structure and class running order, please see below and the supplementary reg s: Class 1. Historic racing machines up to year 1972. Class 2. Racing solo up to 350cc. Class 3. Racing solo up to 500cc. Class 4. Racing solo up to 1000cc. Class 5. Sidecars/Three wheelers up to 1300cc supercharged or 3500cc unsupercharged N/B: Ballast only - no passengers. Class 6. Standard production solo unlimited cc. Class 7. Racing solo up to 2000cc. Please remember all entries must be made on the official entry form and sent to the entries secretary with the correct fee and two sae s (minimum size C5 with correct postage please). The closing date is Monday 31 s July 2017. All entrants MUST provide a colour photograph of their motorcycle with their entry form. The print should be at least postcard size. No photo, NO ENTRY. Entries Secretary: Juan V Manzano. 31 Turners Avenue, Tenterden, Kent, TN30 6QL Thank you, Juan V Manzano. Entries Secretary/Secretary of the meeting for the Motorcycles. E-Mail: juanvmcc@btinternet.com Web: www.vmccsprint.co.uk

Please read. If your bike/kit is not compliant you cannot ride. A word or two regarding machine examination (scrutineering) Before you can race you will need to have your bike and riding kit examined. This is not designed to be an obstacle or a means of making your life hard. It is there as a way of ensuring your kit and your bike conform to the safety standards that you have signed up to as an ACU license holder or an ACU day licence holder. These standards and associated rules are designed to help minimise the risks to you and others. These rules and standards form part of the insurance agreement between you, us the organisers, the ACU and the insurance underwriters. You have entered a licensed and insured competitive motorsport event. My Tech team and I spend too much time 'debating' with riders as to which rules are sensible and which appear to serve no purpose. If it is in the ACU rulebook it applies to this meeting! "It was like this at Joe Bloggs meeting" is not an excuse. Please remember that all of the officials at the meeting are giving up their time and do not get paid or free/subsidised rides for their efforts. If any of the officials ride, we pay the same as you. Some give up their chance of a ride so you can! Please bear this in mind. If the examiner finds fault with your gear or your bike we will do all we can to help you resolve it. The last thing we want is for you to miss your ride but we need your help. Please ensure your helmet is to the current ACU standard. Boots to be whole and not holey! Gloves need to be leather and not worn beyond use. Leathers not to have war wounds you can see through and zips that work. If you use two piece leathers they must have a zip around 75% of the periphery. A dog tag with your full name and date of birth. It is your responsibility to bring your bike and kit that conforms to the rules, not ours. Our responsibility is simply to ratify that this is so. Your responsibility extends to after your bike and kit has been examined. You must appear at the start line with the kit that was examined. If you decide to change any safety kit, it needs to be examined too. There are some rules worthy of mention. All sump plugs to be lock wired no exceptions. Oil lines to be adequately wired in position. Oil breathers must discharge into a tank and total loss engines must have an effective means of collecting all ejected oil with no discharge to the road. Times have changed. Litigation and the blame culture are rife. We need to protect ourselves. Riders, entourage and officials. If you have any questions regarding standards of clothing or any aspect of machine examination please ask. We are here to help. The ACU website is a good point of reference and anyone on the section committee will be able to point you in the right direction. Nearly forgot: NO DOGS.
