Hunting and trapping are allowed on certain Bangor Land Trust properties (see table below). Most Bangor Land Trust properties are located in an urban area and are important for wildlife habitat and available for compatible human recreation. Where hunting and/or trapping is allowed, rules and guidelines have been established by Bangor Land Trust to minimize the impact of hunting and trapping on the property and on other users and to increase the safety of both hunters and the other users of the properties. Some Bangor Land Trust properties are bound by Land for Maine s Future Project Agreements either because LMF funds helped to purchase the property or because the property was used as match required by other LMF projects that Bangor Land Trust and/or Orono Land Trust completed. The Sportsmen s Alliance of Maine has been very active in supporting the Land for Maine s Future program, and has wanted to make sure that if LMF funds helped conserve land, the land would remain open to hunting. Bangor Land Trust will inform people who want places to hunt and trap that they may want to advocate for the Land for Maine s Future program whenever the opportunity arises Bangor Land Trust would like to have some way of keeping track of who is hunting on our preserves. LMF permits us to ask hunters to register with BLT stop by our office and provide some information and some form of identification. Our office phone number is 942-1010 for those who want to call before coming in to be sure that our office manager, Donne Sinderson, will be here. Property (Benson) (Woods) (Severance) Hunting and Trapping Bangor Firearms Zone Restrictions Allowed (LMF) 1 No firearms. All hunters must register. Trapping with written permission only. Bow hunting is allowed. Allowed (LMF) 1 and 2, dividing line not marked Allowed (even though this is not LMF land) Levant Allowed n/a Written permission required for firearms use (if Zone 2). Hunter registration required. Trapping with written permission only. 2 All hunters must register. Bow hunting is allowed. Hunting with firearms (firearms as defined by Bangor City Ordinance Chapter 113 2-A) requires additional written permission. No trapping.

Northeast Penjajawoc Bangor Land Trust Allowed (LMF) 2 All hunters must register. Bow hunting is allowed. Hunting with firearms (firearms as defined by Bangor City Ordinance Chapter 113 2-A) requires additional written permission. Trapping with written permission only. Not Permitted 2 North Penjajawoc Forest South Penjajawoc Allowed 1 All hunters must register. Bow hunting is allowed. No firearms. No trapping. Walden-Parke Not Permitted 1 West Penjajawoc Not Permitted 2 Rules and Guidelines General All hunting and trapping must be done in accordance with the laws and regulations of the State of Maine and the municipal ordinances of the City of Bangor or the appropriate local jurisdiction of the property. The hunter or trapper must assume liability for any injuries caused by the hunting or trapping activity. All litter generated by the hunter or trapper must be removed. NO motorized vehicles of any kind without written permission from Bangor Land Trust. Inserting spikes or other hard objects into trees is NOT permitted. Cutting trees is not allowed. All hunters and trappers should report their harvest from Bangor Land Trust properties to Bangor Land Trust. Dogs on leash only are allowed on Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve, and no dogs are allowed on Preserve. For guidelines regarding dogs on BLT preserves where hunting is not allowed, please see preserve information on our website, bangorlandtrust.org. Hunting Hunters should be aware that most Bangor Land Trust Properties are multi-use and many are heavily used by non-hunters. Extreme care should be taken by anyone hunting on BLT properties. Because all properties other than Levant are located in Bangor, hunting with a firearm requires written permission. (See obtaining written permission below.) The location of any hunting stands or structures temporarily installed on BLT properties should be reported to Bangor Land Trust. All hunting stands, structures, and hunting related equipment must be removed at the end of the season.

All parts and remains of any killed animal must be removed from the property. Establishing bait stations to attract game is NOT allowed on the Bangor Land Trust properties. Trapping Since all properties are located in organized towns and none contains navigable waters, written permission is required for trapping. (See obtaining written permission below.) The request for permission to trap should include the proposed location of each trap. Traps should not be placed in close proximity to any established trail. If the trap poses a potential threat to humans, visible warning signs should be placed around the trap. All traps, signs, and any associated equipment must be completely removed when the trapping period is over. Traps should be designed to the extent possible to trap only the selected species. All trapped animals must be completely removed from the property unless the animal can be released and is not so injured as to make survival unlikely. Obtaining Written Permission/Proof of Registration Because all properties other than Levant are located in Bangor, both hunting with a firearm (Bangor Ordinance 113-2) and trapping (Maine State Trapping Regulations) require written permission of the landowner. Written permission can be obtained by contacting Bangor Land Trust. (See contacting Bangor Land Trust below.) Requests should include the following information: your contact information (name, address, phone, e-mail), the property(s) to be hunted or trapped, the type of request (e.g. hunting deer, trapping beaver), the date range of the request (one season only), a list of any structures to be installed. A written permission letter will be given to the requestor which, as required by State law and the Bangor Firearms Ordinance, should be carried by the permittee when hunting or trapping on BLT property. Reporting Structure and Trap Locations Bangor Land Trust requests that hunters and trappers that leave equipment (traps, tree stands ) on Bangor Land Trust Properties notify Bangor Land Trust of the location of this equipment. (See Contacting Bangor Land Trust below.) The information should include the type of equipment (e.g. trap, tree stand) and either the GPS location (ideally) or a general description of the location. Reporting Harvest For Bangor Land Trust to properly manage its properties, it is useful to know any animal harvesting that has occurred on these properties; therefore, we request that you inform us of any animals that have been harvested. We request this information regardless of whether or not permission was required.. (See Contacting Bangor Land Trust below.) The information should include the property, species, and count.

Contacting Bangor Land Trust Bangor Land Trust can be contacted using one of the following methods: calling the Bangor Land Trust Office at (207)-942-1010, emailing Bangor Land Trust at info@bangorlandtrust.org Letter sent to Bangor Land Trust, PO Box 288, Bangor, ME 04401-0288 Visiting the Bangor Land Trust office
