GOES BACK TO SCHOOL It s that time of the year to welcome everyone to Arkansas 2015 SRD in Rogers, Arkansas at the Embassy Suites and Convention Center commencing on April 10 th and 11th h, 2015. As previously announced, please note the above dates are for Friday and Saturday only this year. Our host facility is the Embassy Suites in Rogers, 3303 Pinnacle Hills Parkway, Rogers. The special SRD room rates are: $119.00 for all rooms (plus applicable tax) Free parking is available Complimentary breakfast served each day Complimentary internet access in all guest rooms If you haven t made your reservations yet, please do so right away by calling the hotel and asking for the TOPS block to get the special rate. The number for the hotel is: (479) 254-8400. Or you can go on-line and register at the hotel website at www.embassysuites.com and clicking on the link to our event. Check in time is 3pm on Friday. The hotel has plenty of storage space and will keep bags for members until check in is available. Note: It is important that you cancel any rooms that you do not need by March 20, 2015. This will allow others looking for an SRD room to receive one and assure that your credit card will not be charged for one night s stay. IMPORTANT NOTE Our special Community project this year is supplying back packs filled with items that the Kids for the Future school can use. Here are a few of the items they can use: Crayons, glue, construction paper, blunt scissors, yarn, water based paint, big noodles and any other school related supplies. I will have more of a list in the January newsletter. This school is a head start school in Rogers. Some of the upcoming SRD events include: We will be having a CASH raffle this year with 2 winners on Friday evening and 1 winner on Saturday. Along with the cash raffle, we are asking each chapter to bring a back pack and/or a new purse with some items of your choice inside. Please bring a container with your - 1 -

chapter # on it so that it can be placed in front of your back pack or purse. It would be nice if you could put a little tag on the purse or backpack telling some of the items in them. We will also be raffling off a quilt made by the chapters in Arkansas depicting the school theme. It will be on display in the lobby. All registrations will be on the main floor of the Embassy Suites. Each member will be picking up their own registration. GRADUATES will be picking up their regalia at the time of registration. Graduates, please check in with Bill Plummer. The promotion room will be open on Friday from noon until 4pm and again after the general session is over until 11pm. Because of the limited time availability, we will be having preordering of promotional items this year. Be sure you look at the pre-order form for promotion items, included with this SRD letter. It is something new and different for Arkansas, but I think you will really enjoy it this way. You will still be able to go to the promo room and shop, but this will guarantee the items you want will be available when you arrive at SRD. Our workshops will be on Friday April 10th in the general assembly room starting at 1:30pm and running until approximately 4:30pm. We also will be having one (1) workshop on Saturday morning at 8:15am that you won t want to miss. We have some interesting workshops so please try to attend them all. LEADERS: You will register members attending on page 1 of the registration form. Please make copies as needed for the rest of the forms. Make sure your members get signed up for everything they want to participate in. You may want to appoint someone in your chapter to be responsible for seeing that all the paperwork is taken care of in a timely manner. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Make your registration checks payable to: ARKANSAS SRD. Please do not put any renewals, etc., in with your SRD checks. Deadline is March 1 st, 2015. Mail all paperwork to Marcia Dohn, P.O. Box 175, Cherokee Village, AR 72525. Please read this more than one time in your chapter, so everyone attending understands they are responsible for checking what they want to participate in and make copies of the individual registration form for all attending. PLEASE NOTE: Your members will receive their charm or pinette FREE if the registration forms are sent in by the due date. Please mark on your registration form your choice of the charm or pinette. Additional charms may be ordered at a price of $ 4.00 each. Postage is extra if you request them to be mailed. Charm or pinette is not FREE if after the registration deadline. COMPETITION ITEMS: We are having 2 competition items this year. (1)Will be a lunch box decorated in the theme. (2) Will be a slate no larger than 12 x 17 decorated to theme. Have fun with this. Let your minds go crazy with creative designs. We have one chapter that has volunteered to check the competition items in and they will also do the judging and the presentation of awards. - 2 -

COSTUME PARADE: Come dressed as a school teacher, student or anything else you can think of that goes with our theme TOPS GOES BACK TO SCHOOL. We will be honoring the Leaders and new members that joined in 2014. This will be on Friday evening. The Leader will be carrying a card listing your Chapter Number & name. Cards will be given to you as you line up. Please encourage your new members that joined in 2014 to attend SRD, be recognized and see what fun we have. SKIT: If your chapter is performing a skit and you need to rehearse it, check with Kathy Phillips when you arrive at SRD. Make sure you mark the chapter registration form for this. There will be no KOPS rehearsal this year. All on stage participants, Royalty, KOPS, Longevity honorees and Graduates will receive special instructions in their packets. DRESS CODE FOR GRADUATES SATURDAY: Women: This year we are asking that all graduates wear a Long BLACK dress at least to the ankle. MEN: Black Suit and tie or sport coat, dress pants and tie. So all you guys and gals that have maintained a loss of 40 pounds or more, please plan on participating. Due to popular demand, we will be having the professional photographer again this year. The last part of March, I will be sending out a rough schedule of events for SRD both Friday and Saturday. So keep your eyes posted for SRD updates coming your way. CHAPTER QUILT INSTRUCTIONS For the 2015 Arkansas SRD, we are going to do something completely different. So here goes. Our very own SRD chapter quilt. It first starts with our TOPS members to design a square and then it ends with the best seamstress to put the finishing touches to it. This quilt will be treasured for years to come by a lucky winner at the ending of SRD. The making of the quilt will also provide contributions to our SRD fund. Let s start a tradition and make each year the best quilt ever. We have provided you with a quilt square measuring 12 x 12. Each chapter is asked to sign their own quilt square according to the 2015 SRD theme, which will be TOPS GOES BACK TO SCHOOL. Don t forget to add your chapter name to your quilt square (ex. AR 0120, Muddy Water). For the chapters who, for whatever reason, cannot attend SRD with us this year, we would love to have you participate in making a quilt square as well. Please follow these guidelines for decorating and finishing your quilt square. It can be anything that represents SCHOOL. (School house, teacher, playground, lunch box etc.) DO NOT cut your quilt square for any reason. Do not alter the size of the square. We will need 1-1/2-inches on all sides to join the quilt, so do not embellish this margin. DO NOT use iron-on transfer, glitter, sequins or fabric paint. These do not launder well and we want this keepsake to endure. You can use fabric, stitching, etc. DO NOT use a different color fabric than what has been sent to you. If you lose, mess up or your fabric square gets damaged please go to your nearest fabric center and purchase another 12X12 piece of fabric the same color and thickness or as close to what was sent to you as possible. Thank you. If you have any questions pertaining to the design or creation of your quilt square, please contact Seamstress, Nancy Galloway at 870-257-3441 or Coordinator Marcia Dohn at 870-257- 2646 or artmar@centurytel.net The finished size of this quilt will be Queen size. Please let me know if your chapter will be participating so we will know how many blocks we will be working with, not later than October 15 th, 2014. Please mail your finished quilt square by January 15, 2015 to: Marcia Dohn, P.O. Box 175, Cherokee Village, Ar. 72525 Thank you for your participation, your SRD 2015 Field Staff & Committee
