OFFICIAL 50th ANNIVERSARY OPENING CELEBRATION (Goyder North Pavilion) 7.30pm, Monday 25 September 2017 Goyder North Pavilion, Adelaide Showgrounds FREE EVENT Celebrating 50 years of the Australian Championships, the Official Opening Celebration is a music, song and dance spectacular that will launch the much-anticipated celebrations of the 2017 Championship. Dancers from around the country will take you on a journey through the past 50 years, joined by many special guests and hosted by the ABC s Julia Lester. AN AUSTRAÍL 50 YEARS A GROWING Another highlight of the Opening Ceremony is the premiere broadcast of our Presentation Music arranged by Anton Davis, sponsored in honour of our 50th Anniversary by the Marie Duffy Foundation: An Austraíl 50 Years A Growing accompanied by an visual journey down memory lane collated by Vicki Paulin. A special souvenir CD of this piece of music will be available for purchase following the Opening Celebration and during the Australian Championships in Adelaide. All monies raised will be sent to the Marie Duffy Foundation. Page 3 of 8
DANCER INFORMATION Collect, competitor number, wristband and certificate at the Dancer Registration Desk in the Jubilee Pavilion. Be ready to dance 30 minutes prior to the schedule commencement time. All times and allocated dance rooms will be listed in the program. Dancers and teachers are advised that AIDA Inc. is pleased to provide Tak-Mat heavy duty cotton imbued with tacky resin, which traps dust and debris from underfoot when walking over, as used by CLRG at the World Championships. These mats will be located at the base of the access stairs to each stage. WARM-UP ROOM (Jubilee Pavilion) Located off the Duncan Gallery. The warm-up room is available for all competitors located off the Duncan Gallery in the Jubilee Pavilion. Dancers competing on that day or next should please be given priority. Please be respectful to your fellow dancers when in the warm-up room. When not in use for the competition or running of the event, the championship stages are closed and are not be used by any competitor or school. TROPHY ROOM (Backstage, Goyder North Pavilion) Perpetual trophies should be returned to the Trophy Room during the hours of 10am 12noon daily. Trophies must be returned on time and in the condition they were received. VENUE ACCESS Venue staff are under strict AIDA Inc. instruction that anyone wishing to gain entry to either hall must be wearing their applicable wristband (teacher/competitor/spectator). Inappropriate conduct towards venue staff or AIDA Inc. officials by any patron (teacher/competitor/spectator) will not be tolerated. Doors will open each morning at 1 hour prior to the commencement of the first competition. When not in use for the competition or running of the event, the championship stages are closed and are not be used by any competitor or school. ADJUDICATOR DRAW The adjudicator draw will take place each morning in the Goyder North Pavilion, 15 minute prior to the start of the first competition. Each championship will be judged by a panel of 4 adjudicators for the first two rounds and a different panel of 3 adjudicators for the recall round, except for the Page 4 of 8
7 Years and 8 Years Championships which will be judged by the same panel of 3 adjudicators for all 3 rounds. NEW MEMBER S BADGE PRESENTATION (Goyder North Pavilion) All newly qualified Members of AIDA Inc. will be presented with their badge on Tuesday 26 September 2017 as part of the Results Presentation, scheduled to commence at 5pm. Commemorating 50 years of the Australian Championships the collection brings together an epic array of historic costumes, photos, programs and much more. SHOE BANK (Prodigy Stall, Duncan Gallery) AIDA Inc. will be supporting the Marie Duffy Foundation with a Shoe Bank Shoes for Shining Stars. The Shoe Bank helps young aspiring dancers in new developing areas where resources are scarce and children can only dream of having a pair of their very own dance shoes to practice their new found passion of Irish dance. It aims to assist at the grass roots of Irish Dance where dancers have to share shoes and maybe only get Page 5 of 8
to use them every third or fourth week in class; such is the demand and sadly the inequity on our planet. We are therefore appealing to the extended family in Irish Dance to make donations of good quality second hand shoes to the Shoe Bank. The shoes will then be sorted and sent out all over the World to places where a pair of shoes may be equivalent to two to three months wages. These shoes will be gratefully received by the Shining Stars in these areas. The Shoe Bank will be located at the Prodigy stall in the Duncan Gallery for the duration of the Championships. AIDA INC.
