Penguins Select Lacrosse 2017-2018 Program Overview

The Penguins Mission At the core of all of our Penguins Select Lacrosse Club lacrosse teams is the relentless focus on player development. These fundamentals are at the cornerstone of our Select lacrosse programs at all levels, and we work tirelessly to ensure that all players coming through these programs truly understand the game of lacrosse and the commitment that it takes to play at the game s highest levels. First and foremost, we believe that lacrosse should be fun! We spend countless hours on these fundamentals in practice so that come tournament time our players can have a positive experience and compete with North America s best lacrosse programs. We pride ourselves building young men of character in a team-first, family environment, teaching players to succeed beyond the lacrosse field, and with coaches displaying an infectious passion for the game of lacrosse.

The Penguins Difference 1. The Penguins Program emphasizes DEVELOPMENT. While the tournaments are fun, and a great time to showcase your abilities, the real work comes in practice with the nation s best instructors to become the best player you can be. It doesn t matter if you are a 2nd or 3rd grader ready to take lacrosse more seriously, or a Division 1 scholarship prospect it all starts with sound fundamentals! 2. Full time, dedicated Penguins staff ensures that we are the most ORGANIZED, PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM in existence. Our staff does not fit in Penguins work around other jobs and commitments, we are completely dedicated to giving your son the best possible lacrosse experience. Whether you are enjoying your first select lacrosse experience or fully engaged in the college recruiting process, we are totally dedicated to helping you reach your lacrosse goals, whatever they may be. We are eight FULL TIME lacrosse professionals in the office every day spending our time making the Penguins among the nation s top select lacrosse programs. 3. We educate the total student athlete. From our team camp to our weekly practices, we emphasize not only the lacrosse aspect, but everything it takes to succeed as a lacrosse player; leadership, character, and the importance of being a STUDENT athlete. 4. We are invested in TODAY s game. The game is changing every day. What it takes to be successful in today s high school and NCAA lacrosse is DRAMATICALLY different than the game was years ago. Not only are we current NCAA and High School Varsity and Sub-Varsity Coaches, but we are RECENT NCAA All Americans, Academic All Americans, NCAA All Conference players and CURRENT members of NCAA All-American Selection Committees and NCAA Regional ranking committees. We know what it takes to help players develop the tools they need to succeed TODAY s game. 5. We realize the enormous importance of playing MULTIPLE SPORTS. The vast majority of our student-athletes are two-sport (or More!) athletes, and we schedule practices and tournaments accordingly. Additionally, the Penguins purposely do NOT play extensive games in the Spring beyond our Spring play day, purposefully allowing players to represent their towns and their schools across New England

Penguins at the Next Level Penguins Alumni are currently competing at all three divisions of NCAA Lacrosse as well as some of the nation s top club programs. Please see below for a list of where you will find Penguins Alumni competing or committed to compete in coming seasons: Brown University Babson College Binghamton University Monmouth University Clark University Hartwick College Merrimack College Bentley University St. Michael s College Franklin Pierce University Assumption College UMass-Boston Endicott College Oberlin College Massachusetts Maritime Academy Roger Williams University Regis College Emerson College Plymouth State University Curry College Keene State College Eastern Connecticut State University Nichols College East Carolina University Salve Regina University University of Scranton Boston College University of Wisconsin Georgetown University Western New England University

Team and Roster Info Penguins Select Lacrosse offers teams at each age level, age groups from 2027-2018. This corresponds to grades 3-12 for the 2017-2018 school year. Each age group will vary in size and will practice together at all field practices and indoor sessions, with 3-5 dedicated coaches per age group. Rosters are selected by each respective coach by tournament. If you can not attend a tournament you are selected for, we will do our best to add you to another tournament. Each player is offered a roster spot in a minimum of 2 Fall tournaments and 3 Summer tournaments each year.

Season Format Penguins Select Lacrosse offers Fall, and a Summer season for each age group in which participants practice with their teams and compete in tournaments. We do not require year round participation. We encourage players to play other sports, and we value the importance of multi-sport participation as a young student athlete. We schedule practices and skill sessions to accommodate the multi-sport athlete as much as possible. All tournament fees are included in Penguins tuition. 2017 Fall 2018 Winter Skills Training (Training Only - participants must participate in Fall and/or Summer to take advantage of the Winter Skills training program) 2018 Summer

Commitment and Expectations All Penguins players are held to a very high standard. Penguins are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all practices, tournaments, and team functions. Each player is a representative of the Penguins program, their family, and themselves. Penguins Lacrosse prides itself on being a respectful, dedicated, hard-working organization that families take pride in being a part of; we expect the very best from all Penguins players! As a Penguins player you are expected to be at all scheduled team practices, and demonstrate a commitment to improving yourself as a lacrosse player and as an athlete outside of scheduled practice and training time as well. Our goal is to prepare our Penguins to be successful in all phases of their lives. As a result, especially as participants get older, you will see coaches holding players to the same standards that they will be held to in college or high school varsity programs in terms of practice intensity, conduct, and team values.

New Player Equipment Package Beginning with the 2017-2018 season, all participants in years of graduation 2026-2020 will be required to make a one-time purchase of a Penguins team helmet and bag that is offered at our cost to Penguins families. 2018, 2019, and Jr. Penguins participants have the option to purchase the package as well. The most important difference in our club is the team environment that we cultivate -- players know their teammates, players know their coaches, and as a result we felt as though it was critical that participants feel like a part of the Penguins organization year round. In fact, the majority of our teams stay together with their assigned coaches from the start of their Penguins career through the end of their high school career. We have found in surveying existing Penguins and their families that this was an important step in the value that we place on team over individual lacrosse. Families will incur a one time fee of $149 once in their Penguins career for a team helmet and bag as seen below, and will have the option to purchase again if they wish if there is a size/wear issue later in the Penguins career!
