Purpose of the Neptune Summer Swim Team For the Neptune Summer Swim Team, our objectives are to have fun while developing and improving each swimmer s physical, mental and social skills while working on the competitive aspects of the sport of swimming. Proper dedication, swimming skills and a positive attitude are crucial to attain these goals. Coaching Staff The coaching staff for the NAC Summer program consists of long time swimmers and active coaches within the world of competitive swimming. Their dedication to the NAC summer program is evident through their energy and they are committed to bringing your child to the next level of swimming. Coaching staff will be released and introduced to the team at the tryouts to be held in June. Eligibility The age of the swimmer as of June 30 th, 2012 will determine the age group to which the swimmer will be assigned for the summer season. Swimmers on the team must range in age from 6 to 17 to participate on the team. Swimmers must register for the team and hand in swimmer information sheet after participating and being accepted to the team. Tryouts will be June 5 th. Tryout Schedule: Age Group Tryout Date/Time Ability 6-8 years old June 5 th at 4pm at the NAC. 6 years old should be able to swim an entire lap (25 yards) of freestyle and backstroke without assistance or holding onto the wall or lane line. 7/8 s must be able to swim continuous 100 yard sets of Freestyle and Backstroke without stopping. 9 13 years old 13 17 years old June 5 th at 4:30pm at the NAC June 5 th at 5:15 at the NAC. 9/10 s must be able to swim a continuous 150 yard set without stopping in the following strokes: Free, Back, Breast. They must also be able to do at least 25 yards of Butterfly. 11/12 s must be able swim continuous 200 yard sets without stopping in the following strokes: Free, Back, Breast. They must also be able to do at least 50 yards of Butterfly. 13-17 must be able to swim all strokes proficiently at distances up to 300 yards.
General Information Swim practices and home swim meets will be held at the Neptune Aquatic Center at 55 Neptune Blvd, Neptune NJ. Absolutely no food or drinks are allowed at the NAC except for water and sports drinks. Smoking and all other drugs are also prohibited on school grounds. You may not enter the NAC prior to the start of practice to swim or hang out. If you arrive early, you will check in at the front desk and sit in the bleachers. Parents are not allowed onto the pool deck for practice. At meets, only parent volunteers will be allowed inside. Parents are allowed to sit upstairs in the upper deck for practice. Pricing Information The cost per swimmer in the program will be $120 for the entire summer. There is no discount for multiple swimmers in the same family. Each swimmer is strongly encouraged to purchase the team suit for the program as well as bring their goggles and any swim cap. Each swimmer will practice 3 days per week and possible swim meets on Wednesday s for an additional day. Swim Practice Information Swim practices will run Monday Thursday on the attached schedule starting the week of June 25 th and running until August 16 th. There will be no practice on a day of a swim meet if a meet is scheduled. All swimmers and their parents must sign the swimmer code of conduct. Parking for practice will be in the NAC lot and adjacent Middle School Parking lot. Goggles and swim caps (for children with long hair) are highly recommended for practice. Tryouts will be held in the on June 5 th at the Neptune Aquatic Center. Swimmers who miss multiple practices may not be allowed to participate at swim meets. This will be at the coach s discretion. Students who tell a coach that they cannot attend a meet, but then show up for the meet may not be allowed to swim based on lineup. If the weather does not allow for practice, parents will be notified by email and text message. You can also call the NAC at 732 776 2200 ext 3-7061 for additional information. If thunder and lightning occurs after 4pm, all practices will be cancelled for the remainder of the day.
