Welcome to our Fifth Annual Edie Creek Bull Sale! We want to begin by celebrating the bright future of Agriculture as we look towards feeding a hungry world, which with a population of 7 Billion & growing is getting some serious attention. This among other factors have contributed to some record cattle prices this year, which we are very grateful for. It will be very interesting to see how good the good times get to be! High calf prices are much appreciated, but with the costs of inputs on the rise, and some bad years to make up for, we need to keep an eye on our expenses, and make ourselves as profitable as possible. Our biggest cost for raising calves (and yours too most likely) still is the cost of feed and yardage. With this in mind, our focus is still to breed efficient, easy fleshing, moderate cows with depth & rumen capacity that enables them to thrive in a low-input environment. These Two- Year Old Angus Bulls will do that for your cowherd. We have been encouraged by feedback from our valued bull customers who have shared their satisfaction with the bulls we ve sold. Our virgin 2-Year old Bulls are providing value, and we continue to develop them slowly on pasture and on Roughage rations with a max of 5 lbs of grain. We have been continually improving our herd by using AI, embryo transfer, and by not selling any of our top heifers. We believe that the quality and consistency of this year s sale offering is proof. We are striving to breed for functional animals with profitable traits like superior maternal ability, fleshing ability, and calving ease, while ensuring the bulls retain lots of libido and natural thickness and muscling. In all of this, we also think of our valued and respected customers who endured devastating flooding and damage. 3 Bull Development These bulls have been raised on their mothers milk and grass. Once they were weaned, they were put on a silage ration that had 3 lbs of barley. In spring they were turned out to pasture, where the bulls grew very well this year, as the dry weather allowed some dry matter to remain in the grass. At the beginning of November 2011, they came home and received a grass-alfalfa silage ration with 5 lbs of barley plus free choice hay. They were never pushed, so that they will breed longer for you. Bull Program Bulls can be kept at the Edie Creek Ranch for $3/day until May 1st. After that, the cost will be $5/day. Free delivery available to Ashern Auction Mart. If you haul your bull Sale day we will give you a $50 discount on each bull. Bulls MUST be insured if they are to be kept on our farm. TERMS AND CONDITIONS The terms of sale are cash or cheque. Settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. The right of property will not pass until after settlement is made. Bulls will not be released until settlement is made. Cheques made payable to BOUW FARMS LTD. s: Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder subject to a minimum/reserve bid. Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be re-opened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. the auctioneer s decision on all disputes is final. Announcements and Changes: All announcement and changes made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements. Purchaser's Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as the auctioneers hammer falls for the final time. Liabilities: All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk and sellers assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises. GUARANTEE: All bulls evaluated for breeding soundness and semen quality by Dr. Claus Leppelman of Beausejour Animal Hospital. We guarantee to provide you with a sound, fertile bull at the point of sale. Should your bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another bull. We will not provide the replacement or credit for a bull that is physically injured or mismanaged. It is the responsibility of the buyer to insure their bulls. BULL EVALUATIONS EXPLAINED: Calving Ease: Based on the bull's birthweight, his parents' birthweight, and his own EPD's. Also based on the assumption that the bull will be breeding small-framed Angus/British cattle--if the bull will be breeding larger-framed Continental cattle, a three-star (***) bull may work on heifers without any trouble. These are simply guidelines to help your decision making. You are ultimately responsible for the matings of your own cattle. Calving Ease Rating: "*" - Suitable for breeding cows only - 100lb+ Birthweights possible ** - Suitable for breeding smaller cows-90 lb+ Birthweights s possible "***" - Suitable for breeding cows and larger-framed, mature heifers - 85 lb BW s "" Suitable for breeding heifers + cows too - 84 lbs or less PURE HEIFER BULL, easy deliveries with vigorous calves at birth! Rating: Based on the quality of the dam's udder structure and teat shape and size. Rated between "1" - "5", a score of "3" would be an average, functional udder, while a score of "5" would be a perfectly level udder with small, shapely teats. Rating: Designed to predict the ability of the bull's offspring to thrive in a forage-only environment. The forage rating is also a suitable indicator of the bull's own ability to stay in good flesh on a low-energy ration ("easy-keeping-ness"). Rated between "1" - "5", a score of "3" would be moderately easy fleshing, while a score of "5" would be very easy fleshing and his offspring would finish on forages alone.
