We would like to particularly welcome all our new members who have joined this year. I can assure you that your support is very much appreciated. Our Committees have already had two meetings and a lot of work is being planned and carried out the results of which will become evident in the coming weeks and months. Our Grounds team are busy with the bunker refurbishment programme, tree pruning and doing a general tidy up so we ask you to be patient while this work is being carried out. In the Clubhouse Restaurant, James and Eilis have returned from their short holiday and they will be delighted to cater for all your needs in the year ahead. Carlow Golf Course is unique and we are all privileged to be the caretakers of this wonderful gem. With your help we hope that 2017 will be a record year for welcoming visitors to the club and on the competitions front we look forward to many exciting matches and hopefully, some great winning performances for Carlow. Snooker - Tommy O Rourke Final 2016. Winners Ber Murphy & Dave Munnelly pictured with Mo Lennon, Captain Congratulations to Ber Murphy and Dave Munnelly following their victory over Richard Madden in the final of the Tommy O`Rourke Snooker tournament recently. Played in front of a large crowd and refereed by the experienced Michael O`Toole (There is a rumour circulating that he is considering hanging up his referees gloves this year) both teams played out an exciting final with Ber & Dave eventually claiming victory. Congratulations to Martin Goff and Stephen Doyle on organising another successful tournament. The draw for the CAPTAINS CUP singles snooker competition has taken place. REELING IN THE YEARS Long before the days of email, internet and mobile phones, members of Carlow Golf Club relied heavily on the weekly postings of Big Bertha in The Nationalist for all the golfing gossip of the day The following reports are from 1998 golfing season nearly 20 years ago! While some of the hairstyles and handicaps may have changed in the intervening period it is great to see so many members highlighted in these clippings that are still going strong on the fairways and indeed are active in clubhouse Long may it continue. Club Notes New tee booking system If you have already registered for the new tee booking system, thank you. If you haven't registered, can you please do so as soon as possible? We have close to 1000 members, of all categories, so there are quite a few still to register. Going live without members registered will result in not being able to book competitions. We wish to avoid the inconvenience this would cause. You are kindly requested to go the the web address below and register for access to this new system. Subscriptions for 2017 Last date for payment of subscriptions and/or registration for Premium Credit is 28 th February, If you haven t done so already, please contact the office to arrange Thank you! Captains Drive In The Joint Captains Drive in will take place on Saturday April 1st and Sunday April 2nd. This is always a great event and planning is well underway. Full details will be released shortly. The Ladies Mini drive in will take place on the 7 th March with the Mens Mini drive in on the 12 th March. Winter League The Winter League is nearing its qualifying rounds with 96 participants and 48 teams. It is a great competition that has suffered with bad weather at the weekends over the last few months. The playoffs will take place on March 4th with wild card positions up for grabs. If you have outstanding matches get them played. Quiz Night A Quiz night is planned for Friday April 7th. These are always great fun and we are aiming for 25 teams of 4 (any combination) non-members welcome to join members on teams. Put this in your diary Men's Club - New Colours 2017 sees a change in the colour of the Men's Club colours. The men have been wearing the wine jumpers and yellow shirts since around 2001. The new colours for the men's club are Navy Trousers, Navy Jumper with a new tonal Crest and White Polo Shirt. This will look very smart and also matches with the Ladies club trousers and shirt colour making things more uniform as a club going forward. The new jumpers can now be ordered in the Pro-Shop with stock expected in the first week of March Andy is still offering his winter teaching programme; 3 for the price of 2. Now is the time to hone your skills in preparation for the upcoming golfing year contact Andy directly in the pro shop. The full range of Mens and Ladies Ping clubs are on order and are expected in early March. Deerpark Diary: Page 8 of 10
Carlow Golf Club Dress Code Members and visitors are reminded to dress appropriately on the course and in the Clubhouse. On the Course: Golf shoes must be worn. Singlets are not permitted. Denim jeans are not permitted. Attire such as football, soccer or rugby shirts, hoodies and tracksuits are not permitted. Only tailored shorts, together with sports socks are permitted. Trouser legs should not be tucked into socks. Mobile phones should not be used on the course (except in the case of emergencies). In the Clubhouse: Golf shoes, sports caps and tracksuits are not permitted. Dress should be neat and tidy, in keeping with the high standards of the club; Denim jeans are permitted. Mobile phones may be used but please do so in a discreet and respectful manner. Thank you for your co-operation.
