TRIATHLON BC PROVINCIAL COACH Position: Triathlon BC Provincial Coach Location: Victoria, BC Salary: Commensurate with experience Employment type: Part-time (hours vary) Anticipated start date: May 1, 2017 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION STATEMENT: The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach will coordinate and implement the provincial program as directed by Triathlon BC and Triathlon Canada (TC). The focus of the program will be to deliver on provincial and national key performance indicators and objectives as determined by Triathlon Canada, Triathlon BC, Own the Podium, Sport Canada, Canadian Sport Institute and viasport. The Triathlon BC provincial program is designed to develop athletes towards top National performances by enhancing their daily training environment with the support of our performance partners. The Triathlon BC provincial program will work in full alignment with Triathlon Canada s National Performance Centre (NPC) in Victoria, its coach and designated support staff. The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach and his/her assigned athletes will be immersed into the NPC daily training environment as determined by Triathlon BC and Triathlon Canada provincial program criteria/npc criteria. The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach position will be a part time position. This Project is funded by Triathlon BC and viasport. The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach will have an important role in the development and delivery of Triathlon BC s Provincial Performance Program (PPP). The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach will work closely with Triathlon BC Staff and its Performance Partners. The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach will be responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives of the Triathlon BC Provincial Performance Program within the NPC daily training environment, provincial camps and other environments as identified by Triathlon BC and TC.
ACCOUNTABILITY STRUCTURE. SEE ALSO APPENDIX A (attached): The Triathlon BC Provincial Coach will be under the direction of the Triathlon BC Executive Director, who will be responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the Triathlon BC Provincial Performance Program. The Triathlon BC Provincial coach will receive technical guidance and mentorship from the NPC Head Coach(s) and NPC Assistance Coach with respect to programming, as well as technical direction for all matters directly related to supporting the coverage of NPC programming. The Performance Partners Management Team will have focused oversight that will provide strategic direction for the Triathlon BC Provincial Performance Program in British Columbia. The Management team will include representatives Triathlon Canada, Triathlon BC and ViaSport. Program administration, human resources and additional technical support will be received from both Triathlon BC and Triathlon Canada. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES: 1.0 DEVELOPMENT OF TARGETED ATHLETES Prepare a Yearly Training Plan appropriate to goals and objectives of the PPP, while establishing and implementing a world class high performance development daily training programs for fulltime/part-time/targeted PPP athletes, submitted yearly to the Triathlon BC Executive Director and NPC Head Coach before October 1 st or as otherwise directed. The focus will be on progressing PPP athletes to the Triathlon Canada National Team. Deliver a sound performance focused curriculum and program, in conjunction with the NPC, in a positive full-time daily training environment through multiple identified training squads. Provide weekly monitoring and review of athlete performance to facilitate consistent progression of all athletes to Triathlon BC Executive Director and NPC Head Coach. Provide coaching support for the NPC daily performance environment, as directed by the NPC Head Coach, for athletes targeted by Triathlon BC Executive Director and the NPC Head Coach. 2.0 SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT AND PARTNERSHIP SUPPORT Work in a team environment and in collaboration with Triathlon BC Technical Staff and the NPC Head Coach and program. Collaborate with other PPP stakeholders as appropriate. Be available for Triathlon Canada National Team and British Columbia Provincial Team competitions and camps (activities) at junior and/or senior level as identified by Triathlon Canada and Triathlon BC. Work closely with provincial and regional club coaches, other athlete development coaches and Triathlon Canada coaches to establish the athlete identification and development strategies required to ensure the successful implementation of Triathlon Canada s Podium Pathway. Ongoing collaboration, communication, and sharing of best practices with other Canadian Sport Institute, provincial and TC coaches. Support athlete identification events such as: NSO/PSO athlete identification and development camps, when appropriate. Support coverage of the daily training environment of the NPC in the absence of the NPC Head Coach and NPC Assistant Coach. Provide guidance, information and enhanced technical support to British Columbia coaches and athletes as identified by Triathlon BC and TC.
Coordination and coaching of PPP camps as planned by and in conjunction with Triathlon BC. Develop effective communication strategies for key stakeholders including parents. 3.0 IST MANAGEMENT OF THE PROGRAM Provide weekly updates and reports as requested by the Performance Programs Manager, TC High Performance Director and NPC Head Coach. Provide bi-weekly work log to Triathlon BC Executive Directors. Provide monthly report to Triathlon BC Board highlighting key developments within the PPP. Identification of IST needs and program to facilitate and enhance the daily training environment for PPP athletes. Tracking of testing and monitoring data for PPP athletes to ensure the most effective use of sport science and sport medicine support. Participate in the PPP, viasport, Triathlon BC and/or TC evaluation meetings. Coordinate bi-monthly Coach/IST athlete review meetings for all full-time PPP athletes and ensure that all meetings are documented. Participate in other planning and evaluation meetings as required. Manage and fulfill all reports and deliverables within ViaSport s Enhanced Excellence funding framework. 4.0 OTHER RELATED DUTIES Work with TC and Triathlon BC staff to develop and execute a plan to provide the necessities for a secure and successful daily living environment for full-time PPP athletes. Develop and execute a plan for proactive recruitment of full-time resident athletes into the PPP and NPC daily training environment. Support and promote all aspects of the PPP and TC s National Program. Communicate with other Triathlon Canada stakeholders as needed. Comply with all bylaws, policies and procedures of Triathlon Canada and Triathlon BC. Other duties, as may be assigned by Triathlon BC. 5.0 ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES and PROJECTS Organize and run three (per year) talent ID camps in BC under the direction of Triathlon BC and TC. Geographic regions include the Okanagan, Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Support NPC Head Coach at annual TC targeted warm weather camp (destination TBD). Travel to specific competitions to provide coaching support as directed by TC and Triathlon BC. 6.0 DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS A proven track record in developing athletes to the podium at Junior National/World Championships/Youth Olympics, Continental Junior Championships result level. Proven experience working within a multiple stakeholder, high performance development environment. (i.e. training centre, training academy or intensive training program). Highly effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate easily to a range of audiences including athletes, coaches, parents, Triathlon BC staff and external stakeholders and sponsors. A minimum, certification at NCCP Certified Competition Intro.
Highly effective planning and organization skills. Computer skills including proficiencies and working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word) are a preferred asset. Proficiency in the development and writing of reports and multi-media presentations.
TRIATHLON BC PROVINCIAL COACH JOB POSTING APPENDIX A 1. Develop and maintain a targeted athlete nomination list: Clear criteria and documentation Criteria approved by external body (CSC Pacific or other ) Transparent and well publicized/circulated 2. Provide measurable program impact on targeted athletes: Maintain a list of individual performance benchmarks (planned/actual) Maintain a list of individual results (score, placing, time, etc) Maintain a list of individual key performance indicators (planned/actual) Maintain a list of current high performance program benchmarks and key performance indicators set by Triathlon Canada (GMP). 3. Tracks athlete movement on targeted athlete list Track athlete turnover (retirement, new athletes, active athletes that no longer make standards) Track athlete conversion rates (NPC). Where appropriate, conduct athlete exit interviews. 4. Ensure clear LTAD appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are in place: Athlete pathway KPI s are clearly articulated and documented on website. Athlete pathway KPI s are widely distributed to appropriate athletes, parents, coaches, clubs and associated sport enhancement providers. Athlete pathway KPI s are used as reference material when determining individual and group KPIs 5. Ensure ongoing province-wide communication with high performance coaches: Provincial Youth/Junior Series Provincial Championships National Junior Series National Junior Championships Provincial/National Multisport Games International Junior events as directed by Triathlon Canada. 6. Contribute to Triathlon BC planning to ensure appropriate competitive opportunities exist within the BC. 7. Provide monthly High Performance report to Triathlon BC Board of Directors.

Compile all necessary documentation and act as Lead for annual ViaSport/Canadian Sport Institute-Pacific Excellence Review: Timely completion and submission of materials required for and of year review o Clear understanding of the review process o Clear understanding of the required materials that are to be delivered/made available in the review process (this is dependent on which items in the evaluation tools the PSO agrees will be completed) o Clear understanding of responsibility for completion of required materials for year-end review Plan developed to ensure review materials are completed in a timely basis.
