ActiveSG Badminton Challenge Series 2016 Hougang Sports Centre Rules & Regulations 1. ORGANISER ActiveSG Badminton Challenge Series 2016 shall be conducted in accordance with the latest rules and regulations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and as directed by the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) (www.bwfbadminton.org & www.singaporebadminton.org.sg). 2. DATE / TIME OF CHALLENGE SERIES ActiveSG Badminton Challenge Series 2016 shall be held at Hougang Sports Centre on 5 March 2016 at 0900hrs 1600hrs. 3. CATEGORIES Categories available for this Challenge Series shall be as follows: Category Men s Singles (Open) Women s Singles (Open) Men s Doubles (Open) Birth Year Classification Age 15 years old & above (Born in the year of or after 2002) Age 15 years old & above (Born in the year of or after 2002) Age 15 years old & above (Born in the year of or after 2002) 4. FORMATION OF TEAM Men player is allowed to register for Men s Singles and Men s Doubles for this Challenge Series. The birth year of the registered players for the specific category must fall within the birth year classification in the above table. Players who are found to be registered in the wrong category shall be disqualified from playing in the Challenge Series. This Challenge Series is open for registration to all citizens and non citizens. The competition format might be changed depending on the final entries received. A minimum of 6 players per category are required for the conduct of the competition per specific category. 5. FORMAT OF PLAY The Challenge Series will be played based on Single Knockout. All matches shall be played over 1 game except for the finals title decider where it will be played on the basis of a Best-of-Three Sets Format. The team that wins 2 sets first shall be declared the winner of the Challenge Series.
The final number of groupings and respective number of entries, and the score/points format shall only be decided by the organizers after the total number of entries are finalised. Categories with less than 8 entries may be cancelled. The group final ranking shall be determined by the number of matches/ties won. However in the event of a tie, the following shall apply (in sequence) to determine the winner: head to head winner total points average (total points divided by total matches figure rounded up to 3 decimal place) Toss of coin 6. SCORING SYSTEM The Single/Doubles which is the first to accumulate 21 points shall be declared the winner for the match. Umpires decision is final. 7. THE START OF PLAY AND SERVICE Just before the start of a match, the Court Umpire will toss a coin or disc in the presence of the opposing pair. The pair who calls correctly may elect to either (i) Serve first or (ii) Choose which side of the court to start the match from. Umpires decision is final concerning all matters within their jurisdiction. 8. SUBSTITUTION Not allowed 9. RETIREMENT / WITHDRAWAL Any player/pair who decides to retire due to injury will retain their points at point of retirement and concede all remaining points of the match to their opponents. Any player/pair who withdraws from the competition at any point will be removed from the competition and all scores shall be deemed null and void. 10. PLAYERS ATTIRE / EQUIPMENT All apparels and equipment used by players shall be in accordance with the Law of the Game. Any equipment that is designed to increase or reduce the speed of play, increase a player s height or movement or in any other way give an unfair advantage or endangers the player or other players shall not be permitted.
A player s attire consists of a jersey, shorts, socks and non-marking shoes. The entire apparel of a player is regarded as part of his body. All jerseys shall be properly tucked in prior to the start of the match. All players from the same team are encouraged to be in uniformed attire. The organizer shall decide the competition grade shuttlecocks to be used for this competition. Players are expected to bring along their own badminton rackets. Any other apparel and equipment not specifically mentioned in these Law of the Game shall have to be approved by Organizers. 11. WALKOVER Conceding a match walkover would mean the match along with all points will be awarded to opponent and conceding a tie walkover would mean the tie, all matches/games and points of each game will be awarded to the opposing team. There are no provisions for players arriving later to be fielded for the remaining matches. However, this team line-up will still have to fulfil all the team composition requirements and must be physically present at least 15 minutes before the start of the match, failure will result in the team conceding to a match walkover. Any player/pair who fails to report to the umpire at the specified court, the match will be declared a walkover after a 3-minute grace period (time starts once umpire goes on court) and all points will be awarded to the opponent. Teams will automatically concede to a match walkover, if they have less than 2 registered players to play. 12. REGISTRATION Registration fees apply to all teams as follows: Category Men s Singles (Open) Women s Singles (Open) Men s Doubles (Open) Registration Fees (Per Pax) $9.00 (Singles) / $18.00 (Doubles) For Doubles, each pair shall be represented by an appointed Captain at the point of registration. All registration forms must be submitted by 24th Feb 2016, 2100hrs. Organizers reserve the rights to reject the registration of any team(s) or players(s) at their own discretion. Full payment must be made upon registration to guarantee a spot in the Challenge Series. 13. PRIZES Trophies will be presented to Top 3 pairs from each category. 14. DISQUALIFICATION Players may be disqualified in the event of fielding ineligible player or unruly conduct of player(s). Organizers reserves the rights to disqualify team(s) / players(s) at their discretion and take further disciplinary action that could be in the form of a term ban in ActiveSG Sports Challenge Series. 15. RESPONSIBILITY OF PLAYERS & TEAMS All Players are responsible to ensure their eligibility before competing in these games. Organizers will conduct random checks on the player s eligibility and if ineligible players are found, the player and the team may be disqualified in taking further participation in the Challenge Series. 16. REPORTING TIME Player(s) must bring along and produce either his/her valid Singapore pink or blue identity card or student concession card for verification. Failure to do so will result in the player being barred from taking part in the match. The Captain shall undertake to submit the players identity cards or student concession card before the scheduled time of play. All Players participating in the Challenge Series are required to fill up a PARQ Form on the day of competition. The Captain shall undertake to submit the players' identifications and team line-up sheet to the presiding Challenge Series official 60 minutes before the scheduled time of play. Participant(s) who are non-singapore Citizens residing in Singapore shall produce one of the following valid passes: Student's Pass Long Term Pass Dependant's Pass
17. MISCONDUCT Work Permit S Pass Employment Pass The Captain is responsible for the proper control and good conduct of their Players and supporters. If an appeal is made to the Captain and it is not heeded, Organizers reserves the right to take disciplinary action against the players. Disciplinary action shall be taken against any player for any act of misconduct committed during the Challenge Series whether inside or outside the court. Any player who misbehaves or creates disturbances shall be immediately escorted out of the arena by the Challenge Series Officials and the Official Umpire, and will also be immediately suspended from his appointment until a Disciplinary Committee makes the decision. In the event of a need for disciplinary action to be taken against any Player or pair, Organizers shall make a decision and impose punishment as they deem fit. 18. SUPPLEMENTARY RULES Players are urged to participate in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship. While all reasonable precautions will be taken, the Organizers, their staff and agents will not be responsible or in any way liable for any death, disability, personal injury, loss of property or any other loss howsoever arising from any case whatsoever at any time during the course of the game. Organizers may at any time deal with any matters pertaining to inquiries, appeals etc. The decision of the Organizers on all matters brought before them shall be final. The rules and team regulations as written above are current at the time of printing. The Organizers reserves the right to add, delete, and/or vary the said rules and team regulations at any time as they deem fit. 19. CHALLENGE SERIES JURISDICTION The Organisers reserve the right to interpret or amend the rules and team regulations of the Challenge Series at any time. Notifications of such changes will be posted on the Challenge Series website. All players are advised to visit the Challenge Series website frequently for the latest notices or updates to draws or fixtures. In the event of any dispute matters arising over any participant(s) and or any team(s), the match will continue regardless. Organizers will only determine on the matter upon receipt of the protest in writing, together with a prescribed protest fees of $100, submitted by the Team Representative within the day of competition.
While reasonable precautions will be taken, the Organisers will not be responsible for or be liable for any death, disability, personal injury, loss of property or any other losses during the course of this challenge series. 20.
