Dear Masters, Instructors and Taekwondo Practitioners: It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 2017 Phoenix Taekwondo Memorial Cup to be held at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto, Ontario on October 28, 2017. This event is a fully sanctioned Ontario Taekwondo Association (OTA) event and as such, World Taekwondo (WT) competition rules will be in effect for all black belt divisions and OTA competition rules for all colour belt divisions. This is a PRE-REGISTRATION EVENT ONLY to ensure a smooth and organized competition experience for every participant. Any Current 2017 National Team Members will compete for free. (National members outside of Canada will be required to attach proof along with application). ALL SPARRING ATHLETES will be weighed in prior to competition at time of registration in order to be bracketed and ensure smooth flow of competition time. High Performance divisions will be using the KP&P system with E-Head gear. Phoenix Taekwondo is committed to make a difference in the community. This year, we have decided to give a portion of the proceeds of the tournament to the Canadian Cancer Society. As you know, many members of our taekwondo families have been touched by this disease in the last couple of years and we would like to show our support to those families who need it most. TOURNAMENT FORMAT COLOUR BELT SPARRING DIVISIONS (Sparring) Each match will be 2 rounds of 60 seconds, 30 seconds break No head contact ALL COMPETITORS MUST BE WEIGHED IN AT TIME OF REGISTRATION. Any competitors not weighed in will not be bracketed for sparring competition. Age divisions will be split into divisions based on their recorded weight. Junior, Senior and Ultra divisions Non High performance age divisions will be separated into A) Novice (White belt to Green Belt) B) Advanced (Blue Stripe to Black Stripe) C) Recreational Black Belt BLACK BELT RECREATIONAL DIVISIONS (Sparring) Each match will be 2 rounds of 90 seconds, 30 seconds break No head contact ALL COMPETITORS MUST BE WEIGHED IN. Any competitors not weighed in will not be bracketed for sparring competition. HIGH PERFORMANCE BLACK BELT SPARRING All athletes will be bracketed in accordance with the WTF Olympic, Junior Olympic and consolidated Cadet Weight categories. All athletes will require KP&P Electronic Sensor Socks. They can be purchased by contacting www.captainsports.ca or asking your Dojang master. Alternatively, socks will be available for sale on site however to ensure you are ready, it is recommended that you purchase before the games All divisions will compete with the KP&P Electronic Scoring System including Electronic Head Gear Single Elimination with WTF black belt full-contact rules. 3 rounds of 1.5 minutes with 45 seconds breaks for all divisions HIGH PERFORMANCE POOMSE 2 compulsory poomse will be performed. The draws will be done the morning of the tournament and will be announced during the coach meeting. TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES We recommend all competitors pick up their ID ½ hour before their scheduled division. Earlier arrival may result in long wait times. The competition area is open to competitors and athletes ONLY, all parents must stay in designated spectator areas. These rules will be enforced by security for the safety of all participants. Please listen to announcements to hear if your division is being called to the ring assignment area. This is a pre-registered tournament; we will not be accepting registrations at the door.
