CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Seattle Chapter - American Singles Golf Association June 2017 President s Letter Greetings Golfers, We are off to a record-breaking year, unfortunately, not in the best way for golf. The rain level has broken a 122-year-old record. Still, we have braved the cart-pathonly rounds and the mud and now are due for sunny skies and lots of fun. The month of May offered some great golf at High Cedars, West Seattle, The Nile, and Semiahmoo. Special thanks for Rick, Pat, and Mary for organizing these events. The May golf and chapter meeting was held at Maplewood golf course followed by dinner at the River Rock Grill at the course. A big thanks to Pat Bonner for organizing the event and chairing the meeting. In June, we go to Willows Run Golf course and the Fire Creek Grill and Bar for our monthly golf and meeting. Watch for an email with more information and golf sign-up. The Suncadia Golf trip is coming soon on June 27 and 28 and filling up fast. Contact me at mtufar@uw.edu to join the fun. As we move into the busy golf season, our pace of play during a golf round is important. See the article in this newsletter for tips to play ready golf and keep rounds moving quickly. Hope to see you on the links soon! ~Marcy Tufarolo Upcoming Events June 13: Willows Run Golf Course (10402 Willows Road NE Redmond) at 1 o clock followed by our Monthly Meeting and Dinner at the course in Fire Creek Grill and Bar 6 p.m. June 27 28: Suncadia Check out the golf calendar in this newsletter for all upcoming events. Seattle Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association Pace of Play As we get into the summer months and the courses are busier, remember that the pace of play is very important to keep rounds to about 4.5 hours. Some tips to help with this: President Marcy Tufarolo mtufar@uw.edu 206-419-0037 Vice President Pat Bonner pat.bonner@comcast.net 206-789-0804 Golf Chairperson Rick Frodsham rickfrodsham@gmail.com 206-999-8862 Social Chairperson Lynn Johnson lj41946@gmail.com 253-332-4408 Membership Chairperson Mary Yax maryyax@ccbain.com 206-612-8722 Communications Chairperson Cassie Jacobson cjacobson13@yahoo.com 360-941-4449 Secretary Karen Kohler kkohler606@comcast.net 425-746-0284 Treasurer John Sweeney jswe482940@aol.com 206-283-3079 Handicap Chair Carletta Barnes sunny_one1@comcast.net 425-513-1515 Newsletter Editor Cheryl Howlett cdhowlett@comcast.net 425-883-2821 Chairman of the Board Ben Watson bwatson47@comcast.net 206-661-5570 High Cedars, Wednesday, May 17 Rick organized the High Cedars outing, but at the last minute was unable to play. Those of us who did play had a great time. The course was still wet, but the day was beautiful and the area quiet and serene with the Cedar River rushing by. An eagle s nest was in view from most of the back nine. Mama eagle proudly protected her eaglet from dive-bombing crows. Sandy L. let us all know about the buyone/get-one-dinner special. So we all had a great dinner in the clubhouse after the round. West Seattle, Friday, May 19 Golf at West Seattle was fun with great views of the city and wide-open fairways. Mark Dickerson won the prize for travelling the farthest to play, coming by ferry from Bremerton to join the group. Two golfers started walking the course, but Ben walked ALL 18 holes. We were all impressed (and Ben was exhausted!). Everyone relaxed over a beverage after the round and enjoyed sitting outside. Sun and Fun in Sedona Three of us from the Seattle ASGA joined golfers from various parts of the country for three days of golf and fun in Sedona, AZ, hosted by the Phoenix chapter. Lynn Johnson, Tab Bronson, and I (Karen Kohler) met in Sedona on Friday and checked in the patio at the Oak Creek Country Club for Saturday and Sunday golf. The check-in was a fun meet-andgreet event with a light supper. We got our pairings for both days and our dinner tickets for Saturday and most of us repaired to the Views Inn to relax in the hot tub and to prepare for our Saturday competition. We had a 9 o clock shotgun start at Sedona Golf Resort. With a team competition, KPs, and a putting contest, prizes were awarded at dinner at the Oak Creek Country Club. Lynn s team, his harem Laura and Edel (from Orange County) and Ellen (from LA County) took second place, and my team, with Sally, Kathi and Eric from Phoenix took first! One reason Lynn s team finished high was that he won the putting contest. He was also runner up for KP for men. Sunday s competition took place at the Oak Creek Country Club, and I scored again in the individual competition. I took second place in the low-net category and also won first place for women s KP. I m not sure Phoenix ASGA wants us

back again. This is the second year that my team has taken first and Lynn took first for individual low net last time as well! Many thanks to the Phoenix chapter, especially John Tuel, Jeannie Tillman and Van Ellen Patrick for putting together these great events. If any of you Seattle ASGA members are in the Phoenix area, check the local ASGA website and attend some of their events. It is well worth it. ~Karen Kohler Golf Rules A player's ball is lost in a lateral water hazard. He takes relief under the lateral water hazard Rule, using his best judgment to determine the point where the original ball last crossed the margin. After a ball is dropped, but before he plays his next stroke, another player says that the original ball crossed the margin some distance from where the ball was dropped. He finds the original ball where the other player said it would be. What is the ruling? Spring Golf in Sedona with Tab, Lynn and Karen ANSWER He must lift the dropped ball and drop it in the correct place, incurring only 1 stroke penalty under Rule 26-1. ~Sandy Lallier About Our Members (THIS REPORT RAN 05/24/2017) Happy Birthday to these members: Mary Baebler - 06/26 Jay Holman - 06/21 Karen Kohler - 06/06 Mary Ann Sage - 06/12 Roger Wilson - 07/10 Timothy Witthauer - 06/20 These members are up for renewal: (date shown is last day of membership) Katy Jusenius - 06/30/2017 Mary Ann Sage - 06/30/2017 Welcome newest members: Kevin Turner - Joined 04/10/2017 These members recently renewed: Patricia Bonner Katherine Curry These members did not renew their dues: (date shown is date membership expired) Kathy Gable - 04/30/2017 Robert Strom - 04/30/2017 Our chapter currently has 57 members.

... Continued from other side American Singles Golf Association May, 2017 SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot Event Details... Memorial Day Weekend at the Marriott Evergreen Resort Stone Mountain, GA May 25 28, 2017 An Official Reunion Event Some things are slow to get off the ground. But not this time. We have seen a surge in registrations for our annual Memorial Day golf weekend at Stone Mountain. Memorial Day Weekend is, without question, our largest attended event of the year. One of the messages we re receiving from our attendees is that Stone Mountain is a convenient location to drive or fly to. Just a hop, skip and a 9-iron will get you to the front door from downtown Atlanta. The Marriott Evergreen Resort is located inside of a state park. Two 18-hole courses line the entrance as you come into the park along with some great views of this big rock poking itself out of the earth. The side of the mountain has sculpture taking-up the size of three acres. Do this trip on your own for this holiday weekend and you would pay $877 per person, double occupancy. The ASGA price is $569. Room by yourself and it goes to $819. Stone Mountain is just a half-hour drive out of Atlanta, so, if you re flying, you ll certainly want to fly into Atlanta s Hartsfield- Jackson (ATL). We ve reserved 80 rooms on peak nights so we can take as many as 160 on this trip. Links to the hotel, golf course and online registration are at www.singlesgolf.com/memorialday Oh! Canada Courtyard Marriott in Montreal July 16/17 Fairmont Tremblant July 18-20 US Dollar Powerful vs. Canadian Dollar! The website is up, the details are there. And the U. S. Dollar is also up against the Canadian dollar. Way up! For a mere seventy-five cents, you can grab one loonie. Nete- Net, as they say, you have strong buying power and that great exchange rate is reflected in our price to you. However, this is peak season for Canada and we re one block from Old Montreal where they ll be celebrating their 350th town anniversary this year. So join 60+ others. www.singlesgolf.com/canada is the site to visit. You literally have a choice of making this a 5-day or 3-day journey. Either visit Montreal for two days then three days in Tremblant (about 90 miles away), or just spend time in Tremblant at a beautiful golf and ski resort. Sign-up with a friend if you want to save money and share a room. We have reserved rooms/courses to accommodate only 88 of our members so please put down at least a $99 deposit to hold your spot. Full payment is due June 1. The 2018 Seine River Cruise Paris, France September 9 18, 2018 We ve selected Tauck as our river cruise company of choice. Tauck, a 92-year-old company that started providing tours to parts of America and Canada many people had never seen, has helped ASGA plan this trip with a promise our members will thoroughly enjoy from private tours of small and historic French towns along the Seine River to the beauty of the MS Swiss Sapphire ship itself, the professionalism of the Tauck staff, to the highly acclaimed food that will be prepared for us each evening. Having taken this itinerary as a site visit in October of last year, I can personally attest to the great first class value. ASGA has special pricing. We never pay what the public pays for our multi-chapter events, whether on the mainland or overseas. (We re not allowed to actually tell you price difference, but if you go to the website and click on the COST tab, see for yourself!) Our itinerary is to visit the historic monuments in Rouen, the English Channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Abbey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise, we ll visit the D-Day beaches of Normandy. Head to www.singlesgolf.com/rivercruise or review the video at www.singlesgolf.com/rivercruisevideo. Tauck even offers quarterly payments to make it easier on you. So be thinking about whom you d like to room with to save on your overall costs. Airfare to Paris is not included and we urge you to purchase trip insurance since the trip is still 16 months away! - - Tom Alsop, President and Founder American Singles Golf Association Our 25th Year!
