United in what is scheduled to be the clubs' final matchup at historic RFK Stadium during the MLS regular season. The Union are 7-8-4 all-time against the Blackand-Red, including a mark of 1-5-4 on the road. LAST REGULAR-SEASON MEETING: Earlier this season, on April 1, the Union took on D.C. United at RFK Stadium in a contest that the Black-and-Red won by a 2-1 final. CJ Sapong scored for Philadelphia and Jack Elliott made his MLS debut with a second-half appearance. This upcoming match marks the first time that the Union are playing an opponent for the second time during the 2017 campaign. CLUB SNAPSHOTS SAPONG MAKES HISTORY IN HAT TRICK EFFORT In last weekend's win over the New York Red Bulls, forward CJ Sapong recorded a hat trick, scoring in the 74th, 81st and 85th minutes in route to a 3-0 Union win... notes from the hat trick are as follows: - It was the first hat trick of Sapong's career as well as the third multi-goal performance of his career. - It was the third hat trick in Union history (joining Sebastien Le Toux [4/10/10 vs. DC] and Roland Alberg [6/22/16 vs. CHI]). - Sapong moved into third place in the Union's all-time goal-scoring ledger with 23 total goals, passing Conor Casey (21 goals). - At 11 minutes, the three-goal performance was tied for the eighth-fastest hat trick in league history, level with Zack Schilawski s trio of goals for New England on April 10, 2010... the all-time MLS record is five minutes, set by Harut Karapetyan for LA Galaxy on 6/4/98. - Sapong was named MLS Player of the Week for his efforts, the eighth time in Union history that a club player earned that honor... the forward became the seventh different individual to receive the award (joining Sebastien Le Toux [2x], Justin Mapp, Jack McInerney, Chris Pontius, Roland Alberg and Ilsinho). Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin On the week... NOTES TO KNOW QUOTEBOOK "Looking back at the Red Bull game, a strong performance from the group, I thought... It's a very good Red Bull team. A thank you to the fans for as loud as they were in the building. Again, we know that we've had a tough stretch here. It was important for us to get a win. We know we've maybe lost some fans, but I'd like to reiterate that it's up to us now to win them back. Overall, a strong performance from the group, obviously good to beat a rival. Something to build on as we look forward to D.C. In a lot of ways, the result at home, as good as it was at 3-0, it doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot if you don't follow it up with another good performance against a D.C. United team that will be playing for all three points." On what could be the Union's last match at RFK Stadium... It hasn't been taken care of very well, there's no secret there, but talk about a stadium with a ton of history in football and soccer. Every time you play at RFK, it always felt and it still does to me, it feels like a big game. That was maybe ingrained in me from some tough D.C. battles... The surface was always great, there are a lot of positive memories, a lot of big games have been played there that I can remember, [some] I was lucky enough to be a part of. You go into all of these nice new stadiums now and it certainly is maybe time (laughs), is maybe the best way to put it, but while I may be nostalgic, or old school, or however you want to call it, but I still love going there. I think it's a really cool place, a special place with a ton of history... I think a lot of guys that not only just played for D.C. United but also for other teams would say the same thing: intimidating place to go, amazing fans. You think of the bouncing fans in the supporter's section, the field always being good and just an intimidating place to go in the hot, hot summer months where you want to get out of there because you know it's going to be a tough game against D.C. United."
