Audition Process Interview Individual interviews will be conducted by the panel of judges in order to gain a better understanding of the candidate s poise, personality, and ability to communicate. Basics Candidates will be asked to execute basics such as a fouette, calypso, arabesque, grand jete, attitude turn, fan kick (right and left), layback, tour jetes, double pirouette (right), split (right), and high kicks. Basics will be performed in small groups. Individual Routine Participants will perform a one minute routine to the music of one s choice. At least five basics from the list above must be included in the routine. Candidates will be scored based on flexibility, execution, projection, musicality, and appearance. (No props or poms may be used.) Group Routine A brief group routine will be taught the day of auditions. Judges will be looking for technique, ability to learn choreography, enthusiasm, projection, overall performance, and who works best together as a group. The group routine will be performed in small groups for final evaluation. Music Music chosen for the individual routine is completely up to the candidate; however, it should be tasteful. Bring a CD with your name and the song number on it. A CD player will be provided for your use. Do not bring your music on an ipod. What to Wear Candidates must wear black dance pants, a black sports bra, and jazz shoes. There should be no logos on the pants or bra. Hair and make-up should flatter the individual. Preferably hair should be worn down and should not cover the participant s face. No jewelry should be worn. Additional Information Auditions are closed to the public. Video tapes or DVDs will not be accepted as a form of audition. Candidates should be currently enrolled at Mississippi State University or admitted to the university for the fall 2009 semester. For more information contact www.admissions.msstate.edu. A mandatory meeting will be held the next day (Sunday, April 5, 2009) for those selected to be part of Bully s Belles. The time and place will be announced after selections are made. (The meeting may last several hours.)
