AVS FINISH ROAD TRIP IN VANCOUVER The Colorado Avalanche finishes off a four-game road trip tonight in Vancouver against the Canucks. The Avs lost 3-1 in San Jose on Friday after opening the trip with back-to-back wins in Edmonton and Calgary. Tonight s game ends a stretch that had the Avs playing 11 of 13 away from home. The team will return to Denver to begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday night against Phoenix. Friday s loss in San Jose snapped a four-game winning streak. Colorado is 4-0 at home this season and 6-2-2 on the road. AVALANCHE EQUALS BEST START The Avalanche s 10-2-2 record (22 points) equals the best start through 14 games in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). It matches the 2000-01 Stanley Cup championship team, who also went 10-2-2-0 through 14 games. Years Record Pts Next Game 2009-10 10-2-2 22??? 2000-01 10-2-2-0 22 win 1995-96 10-3-1 21 tie The only team in franchise history to post a better record after 14 games was the 1994-95 Quebec Nordiques, who were 12-2-0. OCTOBERFEST The Avalanche set a new franchise record for wins in the month of October with 10. The previous mark was nine set by the 2000-01 team (9-1-2-0). It was the first time Colorado had reached double-digit wins in a single month since March of 2007 (11-1-2). ANDERSON TIES NHL RECORD FOR WINS IN OCTOBER Craig Anderson tied the NHL record for wins by a goaltender in the month of October with 10. The only other goalie in league history to win 10 games in October was Manny Legace, who did it with the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-06. Anderson s 10 victories also tied the Colorado/Quebec franchise record for a single month. Dan Bouchard had 10 wins in February of 1981 and so did Peter Budaj in March of 2007. Anderson posted a 10-2-2 record with a 2.04 goals-against average,.939 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 starts during the month. He also set new NHL records for both games played and starts in October. RECORD-SETTING START FOR ANDERSON Craig Anderson has started all 14 games this year, the most consecutive starts to begin a season in franchise history. He has shattered the previous record of nine consecutive starts by Quebec s Mario Gosselin to open the 1987-88 campaign. This marks the longest season-opening streak by an NHL goaltender since 2007-08, when three different netminders opened that year with longer streaks: Evgeni Nabokov (43 games), Miikka Kiprusoff (23) and Henrik Lundqvist (16). Anderson is the only goaltender to play every minute for his team so far this season. The last Avalanche goaltender to start 14 straight games at any point of a season was Peter Budaj, who started 14 in a row from March 9 - April 9, 2006. The last Colorado netminder to start 15 consecutive games was Patrick Roy (16 straight) from Jan. 12 - Feb. 21, 1999. PK STREAK NOW AT 20 The Avalanche s penalty killing unit has not allowed a power-play goal in four straight games, killing off all 19 short-handed situations. Colorado has actually killed off 20 consecutive power-plays going back to Oct. 24, which surpasses its longest streak from all of last

year (19 straight, March 29 - April 9). On the flip side, the Avalanche s power-play unit has also gone four straight games without a goal, a drought spanning 12 PP opportunities. HISTORIC START BEHIND THE BENCH Joe Sacco has guided the Avalanche to a 10-2-2 record (22 points). The Avs were 10-1-2 in their first 13 games under Sacco, which tied him for the second-best record through the first 13 games as a head coach in NHL history. Wolski s eight goals were a career-best for a single month. O'REILLY ON A ROLL Ryan O'Reilly has played in all 14 games for the Avalanche this season, tallying 11 points (2g/9a) and a +10 plus/minus rating. As of Saturday, the 18-year-old was leading all rookies in assists (tied), plus/minus and faceoff percentage (50.3%), while ranking second in points. His 11 points tied an Avalanche record for a rookie in October (Marek Svatos 11 in 2005-06). O Reilly has a point in eight of his last 10 games, which included a seven-game point streak from Oct. 12-24. O Reilly s seven-game streak was the longest point streak by an NHL rookie this season. NOT TO BE OUTDONE Fellow 18-year-old Matt Duchene has also skated in all 14 games this year, tallying seven points (2g/5a). As of Saturday, Duchene was the only NHL rookie to score a short-handed goal in 2009-10. He ranks second among rookie forwards in ice time at 17:06. Duchene and O'Reilly each made their NHL debut on Opening Night, making the Avalanche the first NHL team to have two 18-yearolds play in a season opener since the Winnipeg Jets in 1995-96 (Shane Doan, Jason Doig). At 18 years, 236 days, O Reilly became the youngest player in Avalanche history, and the second youngest in franchise history. The youngest was Owen Nolan, who beat O'Reilly by two days when he made his debut with the Nordiques at the age of 18 years, 234 days in 1990-91. O'Reilly and Duchene (18 years, 258 days) are the first 18-year-olds to ever play with the Colorado Avalanche. The youngest Avalanche player had been goaltender Marc Denis at 19 years, 128 days. AVALANCHE & CANUCKS The Avalanche and Canucks are meeting for the second time this season and the first time here at General Motors Place. Colorado won the first matchup 3-0 behind 35 saves from Craig Anderson on Oct. 3 at Pepsi Center. These Northwest Division rivals split the six meetings a year ago, although Vancouver won the season series based on points (Canucks were 3-1-2, Avs 3-2-1). All-time, the Avalanche/Nordiques franchise is 64-41-15-5 against the Canucks, which includes a 48-20-7-5 mark since moving to Denver. Colorado/Quebec s 64 wins against Vancouver are the second-most versus any team (68 vs. Carolina/Hartford). Milan Hejduk has 35 career goals (in 62 games) against Vancouver, his highest total versus any team. Since Hejduk broke into the league in 1998-99, no other player has scored more times against the Canucks (next is Jarome Iginla with 23). Kyle Cumiskey is from Abbotsford, B.C., Scott Hannan hails from Richmond. B.C., and David Jones was raised in North Vancouver. SHOOTOUTS Colorado is 1-2 in shootouts this season after finishing 9-4 in 2008-09. The Avs own a 25-19 all-time record in shootouts. TEAM - Season: 5-for-14 (35.7%). All-Time: 61-for-159 (38.4%).
