From: Fred Coleman, USAB Junior Advisory group Chair, Mohan Subramaniam, USAB Director of Coaching & High Performance 2012 World Junior Championships Management Team Carl Khor, Allysa Khor & Andy Chong Dear Parents and Athletes, 1. Introduction Congratulations to all those who qualified to for the U.S. Team for the 2012 World Junior Championships in Chiba, Japan. The Team event is scheduled on Oct 25-28 while the Individual Event is scheduled on Oct 29 - Nov 3. USA Badminton appreciates every parent s moral and financial support for this project. Team Philosophical Approach USA Badminton over the last few years within its many constraints has managed to slowly develop several achievable goals in terms of organization, coach selection, coach roles and responsibilities, athlete behavior and performances. The new goal for this year s WJC is to motivate each athlete to achieve his/her personal best in all matches. While the WJC is not a developmental event for U.S. athletes, it is the earliest exposure to world-class bench mark for them. The WJC is the arena for some of the world s best juniors. This presents a significant challenge for U.S. athletes. Therefore, to be able to achieve their best, USA athletes will need to be battle hardened and possess impenetrable mental fortitude. While it is always assumed that badminton is an individual sport, USAB s philosophy and approach is that of a TEAM. Therefore, as a Team, if everyone from the Team Officials, Coaches, Parents and Athletes, cooperate in every area and strive toward the same common goal of being the best, everyone can be successful! 3.
