St Ann s Church of England Primary School Always our best for God, each other and ourselves. Value of the Half Term Thankfulness O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 107:1) 4W Family Assembly The children have had a great time practicing and performing 4W'S Family Assembly. We delivered an exciting courtroom drama, asking the audience who is to blame for the sinking of the Titanic, our LUNAR topic this half term. Miss Williams is so very proud of the class for their commitment to the assembly, the children should be very proud of themselves too! Foundation Stage Nativity The Foundation Stage Nativity takes place on Thursday 8th December at 10am and 2pm in the school hall. This year we are performing "Christmas Counts". All the children have worked extremely hard to ensure it is a truly enjoyable experience. This week the children in the Foundation gave a preview of their performance at Reeve Court in Rainhill. They did a superb job at entertaining the residents. I m sure they appreciated it.

It really was a lovely event, and as usual you did us proud. Many thanks to all those parents who supported this event. McEllin Wedding The choir has been asked to perform at the wedding of Mrs McEllin s daughter, Lucy, who is a past member of staff. Thank you to all the children who have volunteered, we are sure it will be a lovely occasion. Cedric House Year 5 and 6 Choir members will perform for residents of Cedric House Care Home on Tuesday 13 th December at 2.00pm. Please see separate letter about this event. Community Cohesion Visit from Father Richard Celebration of Rainhill Trials If you have a business and would like to find out how you could support our school, or ask how we might support you, why not come along to our Community Cohesion Meeting on Tuesday 6 th December at 3.30pm? On Tuesday 29 th November the Director of Church Schools visited St. Ann s. He was thoroughly impressed by the work of school and enjoyed seeing our children hard at work. He is looking forward to visiting again in the near future. Last week Miss Foster attended a community meeting all about the organisation of a local celebratory event of the Rainhill Trials due to take place in 2019. Watch this space for further developments

Year 1 and Year 2 Nativity Lights, Camel and Action! A huge well done to all our Year 1 and 2 children who took part in our Nativity performances this week. Many thanks to Emma Dears for directing the show, Graham for opening up the Village Hall and controlling the lighting, and all the staff who organised or supported the performance. Many thanks also to all our parents for supporting this production and for providing costumes and props where required. Christmas Disco The Friends Christmas Disco is taking place on Monday 12 th December. EYFS and KS1 children may come to school in their disco clothes. EYFS and KS1 Disco: 3.30-4.30pm. KS2 Disco: 4.45-5.45pm KS2 Children should be brought to the Y3 door to enter. All children will be collected from the hall door at the back of school. Please note: Children will not be allowed to walk home on their own. All children must be collected by a responsible adult. Entry to the disco is 2.00 (this includes a packet of crisps and a drink)

Year 2 Cultural Visit On Tuesday 22 nd November, Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Roald Dahl s Gloriumptious Christmas Mansion at Tatton Park. The children had fun exploring Tatton Dale Farm and also meeting Father Christmas and his Reindeers! After lunch, the children then went into Tatton Hall and discovered the different rooms all designed with a different Roald Dahl book in mind e.g. Matilda, BFG. The children were impeccably behaved and represented St Ann s well. Polite Notice In the interests of health and safety, please could all dog owners who bring their dog to school refrain from leaving them unattended by tying them up outside of school. Children are crowding around the dogs and there are concerns that the dogs may react as a result of this. In school we will speak to all children about not stroking dogs without asking the owner s permission first, and that children should only ask to stroke a dog if they are accompanied by an adult in the first place. Many thanks in advance for your co-operation with this matter. Own Clothes Day Friday 9 th December This year we are inviting children to wear their own clothes, along with a Christmas themed jumper on Friday 9 th December to raise aware of the charity Save the Children. On this occasion we are not asking for a donation for the charity, we are simply raising awareness.

R.E. Lessons The children have been making things in their R.E. lessons this week. Year 1 and Year 4 made lanterns as gifts and as part of their work on 'Jesus Light of the World.' Year 2 made paper plate angels which tied in with their unit on God's Messengers. Year 6 created their own Advent Wreathes having researched the symbolism of each candle and thought about their personal dedications for each candle. The children thoroughly enjoyed these creative lessons. Staff Training Next week Miss Middlehurst and Miss Howard will attend a one day event in Manchester organised by Rising Stars. The training day will focus on new developments in the national assessment of English across Key Stage 1 and 2. Year 5 Lunar Curriculum Celebration Event: On Thursday 15th December, Year 5 will be having a celebration of their Lunar curriculum topic. This will take place 9.30-11.15am, with parents of Year 5 children being invited (details to follow in a letter next week). Look out for photographs of our 'Travel Agents' in a future Newsletter! Supporting Other Schools As a result of the high-quality practice we have in our school, next week teaching staff from another local school will visit St. Ann s to observe the Maths Meetings we deliver across Key Stage 1. Sherman Finesilver Performance Opportunities At St. Ann s we are passionate about children having the opportunity to show case their talents. To that end we have decided to create an opportunity for our children to do this during daily worship. If your child would like to perform in worship one morning, please complete the reply slip below and return to the school office. Children wishing to perform will have their name placed on a waiting list and nearer the date of their performance they will receive an invitation. If your child requires anything for their performance (e.g. instrument, sheet music, cd, prop), they should remember to bring this with them. Occasionally it is necessary to cancel whole school worship due to unforeseen circumstance, when this happens if it is your child's turn to perform, the date of their performance will be re-arranged.
