Year 3 s ancient Greek DaY Autumn Term 2016 The Half Term Howler is a newspaper written and produced by the pupils of Warren Dell Primary School. Year 3 have written and edited the newspaper this half term. On 21 st September year 3 had an ancient Greek workshop. Year 3 went to the hall where Dan was waiting. Everyone wore costumes, girls wore white dresses and boys wore brown costumes and armour. We learnt about the ancient Greeks. We listened to and acted out stories including Theseus and the Minotaur and the story of Achilles. We played games and puzzles like chess, battle ship and a labyrinth. We also did a quiz where and we had to go round the boards and find the answers to the questions. The first person to get all the answers right won three smilies. After we finished the quiz we did some colouring. We designed our own Greek shield. Year 3 said that their favourite part was putting on hard, metal amour like a helmet, shield, sharp sword and body armour. By Lilly, Charlie, Jay, Dominic and Taylan

Year 1 Wendover Woods Trip Year 1 went to Wendover woods for their school trip on Monday 17 th October. Everybody was excited to go on the coach journey, some children played eye spy. When they arrived they took a walk through the woods and found some Lamas, along the way they saw the Gruffalo, he was huge, even bigger than the teachers! When it was lunch time everybody had to sit on their coats at the picnic area because the seats were so wet. Their favourite part of the trip was building a camp fire, but they didn t light it, they were just practising making them! On the way home lots of the children fell asleep on the coach because they had such a fun and exciting day! By Jack C Circus Skills In September, year 5 went in the hall to take part in a workshop. They got to learn circus skills. They learnt how to spin a tooth brush on their finger and they played the Chinese yoyo. They also balanced a feather on their finger. Year 5 found the unicycle with one wheel the biggest challenge but said that learning skills was a lot of fun. By Hannah, Kian, Evie, Lily, Archie and Chelsea

Year 2 s Trip to Ruislip Lido Year 2 went on a trip to Ruislip Lido for their Beachcombers topic. They had to get a coach there which took 20 minutes. All the children took a packed lunch. Ruislip Lido has a beach and a lake. There was lots of stones and sand. They saw fish and swans. They went to a children s play area, where they jumped off a high climbing frame and then they had their lunch. They said they saw birds while they were eating. Next they got changed to go in a water park. Year 2 said It was very fun. By Jack T, Mya, Hayden, George, Maira and Jayden Roald Dahl Dress Up Day In September the school dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl character for Roald Dahl Day, celebrating Roald s 100 th Birthday. We asked year 6 what they dressed up as for it and one person said they dressed up as Matilda. Apparently, Miss Richardson dressed up as Matilda too! Someone also dressed up as Mrs Trunchbull. Ben said I liked my costume, I was Charlie Bucket. Year 6 have been reading Matilda in their English lessons and have enjoyed it. They described Mrs Trunchbull as mean. We asked them about the dance workshop. Their favourite dance was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They said they enjoyed the Roald Dahl dress up day and the Roald Dahl dance. Year 4 Visit Hampton Court Last week Year 4 went to Hampton Court because it was part of their cool topic called the Tudors. It is a castle where King Henry the 8 th lived long ago. They went there to see everything inside the palace and the great hall where the king used to eat his meals. It also had a huge garden. They learnt that King Henry 8 th had 6 wives and 2 of them were beheaded. King Henry wanted a baby boy, one wife got beheaded when she had a baby girl. King Henry the 8 th was 55 years old when he died. Whilst there, year 4 visited the kitchens and they saw a spit which is used for cooking meat. Abbie said we had a great time and learnt lots of things By Lewis, Eloise, Jack P, Franchesca, Tyler and Wesley
