WELCOME commitment in ensuring 2017 delivers a great athlete experience. And of course, thank you to all our suppliers, sponsors and partners including Aldi, NTT, JLL and of course Title Partner, Columbia Threadneedle Investments whom alongside Leeds City Council, UK Sport and the ITU who have supported event organisers British Triathlon and enabled this year s event to be one of the highlights on the triathlon calendar. Have a fantastic weekend. Wayne Coyle, Event Director Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds WELCOME TO COLUMBIA THREADNEEDLE WORLD TRIATHLON LEEDS The organising team would like to extend a warm welcome and big thank you to all competitors at this year s edition of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds your support of this landmark event is truly fantastic. Over the weekend of 10 and 11 June 2017, we will see more than 3,000 triathletes completing their triathlon experience. Many of you will be completing your very first triathlon whilst the more experienced triathletes will be competing for the coveted 2017 British age-group titles on offer in the standard distance races. This year we have been working closely with the age-group community to create an event to be proud of with an exciting new course that will maximise your race experience. Roundhay Park is the beating heart of the event for participants in 2017 hosting a single transition area as well as a host of essential amenities within our new Event Village. Of course, the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds also hosts the fourth leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series. Leeds is home to many of Britain s leading triathletes and the action is sure to be non-stop on Sunday from 1pm, when the elite races get underway. We invite everyone whether racing on Saturday or Sunday to join us in cheering on the best triathletes in the world. In Roundhay Park we will have a big screen to watch the racing or you can choose to take our free shuttle bus for competitors into the city and join the thousands of fans who will be lining the streets for both the elite men and women prepare to be inspired. I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers and officials for their support and WELCOME FROM COLUMBIA THREADNEEDLE INVESTMENTS We are delighted to be returning as the Title Partner of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds for the second year. Michelle Scrimgeour Chief Executive Officer, EMEA Columbia Threadneedle Investments

WELCOME To those racing, allow me to wish you the best of luck. I hope you will fulfil your personal ambitions. To those spectating, thank you for your support and have fun! Ian Howard TD President, British Triathlon WELCOME FROM BRITISH TRIATHLON Welcome to the second Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds to take place in the city. This event represents the pinnacle of triathlon competition in the UK and provides athletes with a unique opportunity to compete on much of the same course as the world s best in Leeds. This year British Triathlon has moved the management and delivery of the event in-house with a dedicated team working hard to improve the age-group experience for all. This is reflected in a new sprint and standard distance course designed to maximise the racing and overall event experience with the creation of a single transition in Roundhay Park. Do bring your family along to watch as we have transformed Roundhay Park into the heartbeat of the event with entertainment for all of your support team. Following in the footsteps of last year s inaugural competition, this event will attract thousands of spectators to watch both the amateurs and the elite including Yorkshire s own Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. The city of Leeds has quickly become a firm favourite in the global calendar and again takes its place in the ITU World Triathlon Series alongside other global destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Stockholm and Yokohama. The elite racing will be tremendously exciting and inspirational. Equally as inspiring will be the sight of first timers and age-groupers racing on this iconic course. For many of you competing over the weekend this will be your first taste of triathlon. We hope you will be inspired to continue your participation and support for the sport. WELCOME FROM LEEDS CITY COUNCIL We are extremely proud to be welcoming once again the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds to our city this year. As a city we would like to offer a big welcome to triathletes who will be travelling to Leeds from near and far to participate, the media and of course the many, many spectators who last year created such an amazing atmosphere. The arrival of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds offers another tremendous opportunity to show people around the world that we are a true city of sport, and we cannot wait for the fun to begin on 10 June. We hope everyone has a wonderful time in Leeds over the weekend, and the very best of luck to all those athletes who are competing and a big thank you to those people who are giving up their time to volunteer. It is no exaggeration to say that an event the size of this one could not be held without your support. Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council

WELCOME and abilities. Leeds has also committed to seeing our great sport grow amongst local youngsters by organising TriStar, Youth and Junior triathlons, as well as a paratriathlon race. We had the opportunity to see the race first-hand last year, and I m sure that we will experience a fantastic spectacle again this June. The historical city of Leeds is the perfect backdrop for all the triathlon events, with its fantastic city dressing setting up the perfect backdrop for family-friendly sports action for its citizens and visitors. After all, triathlon is a sport anyone can do regardless of age or gender. WELCOME FROM THE INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON UNION Greetings and welcome all to the 2017 Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds, I m thrilled to welcome you all, for the second consecutive year, to the city of Leeds for the ITU World Triathlon Series. It s enormously exciting to be back again to this city, which breathes triathlon and has been welcoming triathletes for so long. Great Britain has always been an important part of ITU s history, and now Leeds is also an active part of that history. I would like to thank British Triathlon, the Local Organising Committee, our partners at Columbia Threadneedle, UK Sport and all the volunteers and the city of Leeds for helping to put this weekend together. I really hope you can all enjoy the beautiful city of Leeds and the spectacle of ITU triathlon at its best. Have a wonderful weekend! Marisol Casado, President, International Triathlon Union IOC Member ITU has had a lasting and excellent relationship with the UK for many years now, with the capital first appearing on the ITU World Triathlon Series calendar in 2009. Since then, the country has hosted numerous ITU World Triathlon Series races, a Grand Final and the London 2012 Olympic Games, and in 2016, we welcomed another English city, Leeds, to the ITU family. We then experienced a race in the heart of the city with thousands of people cheering on the streets, we loved it so much that we are ready to come back. Leeds is also the hometown city to ITU favourites, brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, as well as the training grounds of many British greats such as Non Stanford. I m sure the Brownlee Brothers will keep on their minds, as we all do, their victory from last year and the thousands of spectators cheering them while crossing the finish line. With a whole city feeling enormously proud of their triathletes, and the local crowd in full force to cheer for their hometown heroes, I m sure we will witness some epic racing again on the streets of Leeds in 2017. But the triathlon races will not end with elites, with the weekend including lots of different races and options for triathlon enthusiasts of all ages

CHECK YOUR TRANSITION Before you start your race, ensure that your race equipment (and any nutrition you may want during your race) is arranged neatly next to your bike, within the area allocated to your race number. Please be mindful of other competitors when setting up your transition area. No equipment is allowed in the aisles, before or during the competition. Personal belongings, other than your race equipment, are not allowed at your numbered position in transition and should be safely stored at the bag drop. Please note nudity in transition is forbidden. ROUNDHAY PARK BAG DROP A secure area is available at Mansion House and within transition to leave your bag prior to race start, or you can leave it with friends and family whilst you race In this bag, we suggest you leave anything you have brought to Roundhay Park on Sunday morning, but do not need to race, or won t require immediately at the finish line. After you finish your race we will bring your bag and belongings back to Civic Hall, or if you are taking part in the relay you will take it back on the bus. ELECTRONIC RACE TIMING This event uses electronic chip timing. Once issued with your chip at registration, ensure you do not get it mixed up with someone else s. Wear the timing chip on your left ankle. Please ensure you only cross timing mats whilst you are racing, or when instructed to by a marshal at the swim start, so that your race results aren t affected. You must return your timing chip to the volunteers in the finish area at the end of your race. Any timing chips not returned will incur a charge. RACE NUMBERS In your race pack you will be issued with a pack of race numbers; these must not be altered. Your bib number should be worn facing backwards on the bike and facing forwards on the run. The bib number does not need to be worn during the swim. Failure to display your number correctly could lead to a time penalty. Please fill in the medical details on the reverse of your bib number so Technical Officials, volunteers and medical staff have this information if necessary. TIP - a race number belt can be used to easily transfer your race number from your back during the bike, to the front for the run. If you use a race number belt, leave this with your bike until after your swim. 09
