BAGAN TEMPLE MARATHON 4-days package for residents in Asia Tucked away in central Myanmar, the ancient site of Bagan is the location of this exciting Adventure Marathon. Home to more than 2,000 temples, Bagan s beauty and historical significance is unsurpassed. Sacred pagodas and beautiful temples are scattered across the plains of Bagan creating a mystical, stunning landscape. The marathon course will take runners on a voyage of discovery into this alluring and untouched land. The tour package includes social events, tours of Bagan and hotel accommodation. As Mandalay airport is opening up to more international flight arrivals and departures participants can chose to arrive in either Yangon or Mandalay. Get ready for four incredible days in a country laden with sacred temples, pagodas and magnificent natural beauty. Day 1 13 November Welcome to Myanmar Arrive at Mandalay or Yangon International Airport and make your way to the hotel for check-in. Transportation from the airport is not provided, but taxis are plenty-full and the distance is not long. At the hotel your tour leader and local guide will assist with the check in and give information about the coming days. The rest of the day is free to explore Yangon or Mandalay on your own.
Day 2 14 November Bagan, sunset tour and pasta dinner. We wake up early and check out from our hotel and drive to the airport to catch the morning flight to Nyaung U Airport near Bagan. We have the afternoon free to become acquainted with the magnificent landscape of Bagan at our own pace. In the late afternoon we will meet for a sunset excursion to one of the temples and enjoy a magical moment reveling in the stunning beauty of the area as the sun casts its dusky glow over the gilded plains. Once the sun has set we will go to Amata Restaurant to load up on carbs at the pasta party. Start number and T-shirt will be handed out and the race organizers will provide the final information needed for tomorrow s race. Breakfast & dinner included Day 3 15 November Race day Today is the big day! After an early breakfast at the hotel, we hop on a coach to Hti Lo Min Lo Temple where the marathon and half marathon start and end. Running amid the pagoda-studded landscape, we ll experience Bagan in all its former glory. After the race, we ll enjoy a packed lunch on the steps of the iconic Hti Lo Min Lo Temple. Busses will take all participants (runners and spectators) back to the hotel. Breakfast and lunch box included.
Day 4 16 November After an early breakfast and checkout, we head to the airport for our morning flight back to Yangon or Mandalay. Arrival in Yangon and Mandalay is estimated before noon. However, flight times are not yet confirmed and delays do occur, so it is NOT recommended to book your onward flight out of Yangon or Mandalay earlier than 15:00 this day! Breakfast included. PRACTICAL INFORMATION Accommodation The hotels for Yangon arriving participants will be Green Hill in Yangon and Ayeyar River View in Bagan. Participants arriving to Mandalay will stay at Shwe Inn Gyin in Mandalay and Tharabar Gate in Bagan. Registration We cannot confirm a booking before the official Entry Form is filled out and received by us. Visa All travelers are required to have a valid visa for entering Myanmar. Please apply the visa at your nearest Myanmar embassy or consulate 4 weeks before your departure.. Please note that it is your responsibility to be in possession of the necessary travel documents before travelling to Myanmar. Currency Myanmar s currency, the kyat can be exchanged for US dollars in banks or hotels. Bring crisp and new US dollars - old and folded notes are likely to be rejected. We recommend that you bring US dollars instead of Euros. Credit cards are generally not accepted in Myanmar and there are no or very few ATMs. It is advisable to bring enough cash for the duration of your stay in Myanmar. Visiting religious sites Respect and courtesy is expected when visiting temples and other religious sites. Shoes and socks must be removed before entering Buddhist temples (sandals or flip flops are a good alternative to laced shoes as they re easier to slip on and off!) and shorts and dresses must cover the knees. Touching Buddha statues and posing in front of them are not allowed. Please respect possible no photo signs.
Distances/competitions The Bagan Temple Marathon features two competitive distances, a full marathon and a half marathon. Both distances start and finish at the same time and place. Age limits Full marathon runners must be minimum 18 years old on race day. Half marathon runners must be at least 16 years old. Start and finish The marathon and half marathon start and finish in front of Htilominlo Temple. It is possible to deposit bags with personal items for use after the race. Although the finish area is manned, depositing personal belongings in the area is entirely each runner s responsibility and the marathon organizers are not responsible for loss or damage of personal elongings Time The race starts at 6:00 in the morning. Cut-off time is 7 hours. All runners still on the course after 13:00 will be picked up and driven to the finish line. Surface A mixture of gravel and sand on trails and roads. Some stretches of the route are on paved roads. The route is relatively flat. Time-taking The race is timed electronically by Ultimate Sports Service using the AMB Chip system, which will record each runner s individual net time. The chip must be returned after finishing. Result lists will be published at the celebration dinner the following day and online as soon as the local internet connection allows it. Race officials The race officials reserve the right to change the course and other aspects of the race without advance notice. Please note that all decisions made by the race officials and/or medical team are final.
Medical team On race day, a team of Danish doctors and Myanmar paramedics will provide medical assistance to runners in need. The medical team reserves the right to remove any runner who is unable to complete the race. Please note that all decisions made by the medical team or race officials are final. The medical team will consist of Danish doctors and local paramedics. Supplies on the route There will be water stations along the route. Some stations will also serve energy drinks and bananas. Personal supplies can be deposited at certain water stations. More details about route supplies will follow. Clothing The weather in November is hot and humid with temperatures reaching highs of around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Light-colored clothing, short-sleeve technical shirts are a good choice as sweat is not absorbed (like cotton), sun block is a must (use SPF30 or above), a running hat with visor is also advisable as it can help keep the sun out of your eyes. Race/bib numbers You will receive your bib number in the goodie bag we will be handing out the day before race day. Awards All finishers receive a medal. A small, symbolic prize is given to the winner of both distances for men and women. Please note that there is no prize money.
