July 2015, Last Edition Welcome! Season Wrap up And the trophy comes back home to the Holly Tree Hurricanes! As you all know, our Hurricanes earned the Founder s Cup for Quality Points trophy at Divisionals again this year! The excellent training provided by Coaches Roslyn & Henry has continued our winning tradition; a tradition we plan to build on again in 2016. Our swimmers consistently drew the fewest number of DQs in the division, as well as at C&C. We had countless personal best swims, and numerous records were broken this season as well. It s always so exciting to watch the kids grow and improve and cut week after week! New friendships were formed, old friendships further solidified, and sportsmanship was modeled at every meet. It was a season to be proud of! Congratulations Hurricanes! A word from the Directors It is hard to believe our swim season has come to an end! I want to congratulate our swimmers and coaches on a fantastic season. I am so proud of everyone s hard work and dedication. I want to thank all the parents for volunteering their to make our swim season a success. Thank you for the plant and gift card. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. I ve enjoyed being codirector with Katherine these past two years. I have learned so much about SAIL and swim during this. I have also gotten to know many wonderful families. Thank you so much for your support. I look forward to taking on something new next year! ~Laurie Well, I think I can officially say I am completely exhausted! This has been a fun, but very difficult summer for me trying to juggle all the balls I had in the air. I know I dropped several of them several s and I apologize for that. Thank you all for your understanding and support; I really appreciate it. And thank you all so much for the lovely gifts you gave us at the banquet too! So thoughtful and generous. I m also very grateful to have had Laurie as my partner these past two years. Her help has been invaluable. We look forward to stepping back and passing the torch on to Kimberly in 2016! ~Katherine Coach s Corner Wow! What a whirlwind season; it seems like we just got in the pool. We have had a season of great swims culminated by stellar performances at Divisionals, which earned us the Founder s Cup. And of course that propelled us into Championships and Classics. We had two records

broken and lots of all-around fast swims by the swimmers. What a fantastic way to end the season! Hard work really pays off. I would like to thank my Assistant Coach, Henry, for a good season and wish him great things this fall at Wofford! USA Masters! Thank you to all the countless volunteers for your. We couldn't run a meet without you. I look forward to having some fall fun and hearing some of the great things that the Hurricanes will be up to, both academically and sports related. I am also looking forward to seeing some of you at the Sportsclub for The Storm. See you at the pool, and thanks for a great season! GO HURRICANES! ~Coach Ros Hey all! This season has been a great season for all including myself. What a great way to end the season with all the great s and wins. It was bittersweet for me as it was my last season swimming but I look forward to many more as a coach. Can't wait for next summer! ~Coach Henry Top Ten & Record Breaking News from C&C Henry Frengel set new Holly Tree all- records in the three strokes he swam at Classics: - IM, 1:02.67 - Back, 27.49 - Fly, 26.74 Other all- Holly Tree top 10s from C&C - 8&U Girls o Addison Wilkins, Short Free, 19.68, 9 th all o Addison Wilkins, Long Free, 43.76, 3 rd all o Addison Wilkins, Back, 24.59, 9 th all - 8&U Boys o Noah Williamson, Short Free, 17.33, 2 nd all o Noah Williamson, Long Free, 39.97, 2 nd all o Noah Williamson, Fly, 19.66, 3 rd all - 9-10 Girls o Amanda Herber, Meredith Rice, Zoe Herber, Alexis Brown, Medley, 1:19.31, 4 th all o Meredith Rice, Breast, 20.07, 3 rd all o Zoe Herber, Fly, 18.30, 10 th all o Meredith Rice, Alexis Brown, Amanda Herber, Zoe Herber, Free, 1:09.51, 4 th all - 9-10 Boys o Collin Norris, Andrew Cuppett, Alexander Cuervo, Hunter Wilson, Medley, 1:22.87, 9 th all o Collin Norris, IM, 1:36.91, 8 th all o Alexander Cuervo, Fly, 17.63, 7 th all o Alexander Cuervo, Andrew Cuppett, Noah Williamson, Collin Norris, Free 1:10.24, 6 th all - 11-12 Boys

Well-deserved Thanks! For those of you who couldn t hear us at the banquet, or weren t there, I would like to reiterate our thanks to so many of you parents that are the team behind the team. To Amanda Gonzalez our Computer Operator who spent many a Thursday night compiling meet results as well as many other reports for the good of the team, Eve Herber our Treasurer who always reimbursed my receipts right away, to Barb Soenke for being the Apparel Mom again this season and handling the orders and distribution of T-shirts, Divisional gifts, and all other logo items, Suzann Adams our t-shirt designer extraordinaire, Jeff Wood for his wealth of knowledge of SAIL, this team, and all kinds of background information and for being our main tent transporter and putter-upper, Art Young our resident statistician who kept track of all our

Top Ten Times and record breakers, Greg Wilson who kept the website calendar in synch with the published newsletter calendar, his wife Paige Wilson for always being willing to do anything you need, to Al Adams our vintage SAIL swimmer who is always willing to do the grunt work, Annie Brown and her (3) boys who always came to help set up for meets (and Ethan & Gavin even worked the concession stand!), Lori Flaherty who was a great meet set-up helper and willing volunteer!), Ralf Gumpert who appeared out of nowhere this summer and was always willing and able to step in and help (even if it meant getting certified at the ninth hour!), Rafael & Kimberly Williamson who also were always on hand to help out in any way possible, Penny Rice, Lindsay Wilkins, Donna Frank, Wendy Dolven, Linda Young, Chip Davis, Nathalie Norris, and to ALL OF YOU who helped in any way. (I know I have forgotten to point out everyone I should have!) Your support is vital to the team and is very much appreciated!! YAY PARENTS! This team couldn t be a team without you all. I d also like to thank Roslyn for her dedication to our kids and the terrific training she has been giving them in more ways than just swim strokes. And Congratulations to Henry, who just completed his first coaching job! I was impressed by his handling of the balancing act of coaching his peers while being a teammate. Thanks you, Henry for your many contributions to our team this summer. A few other items of note Lost and Found Laurie collected a number of items from the tent area after Divisionals and has them with her several pairs of goggles, a chair, a team shirt, etc. Don t forget that there is also a Lost & Found at the pool. Please take a moment to check through it and see if something from your house is there! Trophy/ribbon/medal pick up if you were not at the banquet, or C&C party, or Ribbons & Donuts, you may very well have awards waiting for you! Please contact me or Laurie about coordinating pick up of these items. Thanks! Emails Laurie & I have been very careful to always send our messages to the team with a blind distribution. We have done so because some families have requested not to have their contact information shared. Recently, there have been several messages sent that were not blind copied. I am hopeful that as the message content was team related no one was offended by this oversight. However, going forward, if anyone would like to send a message to the group, please first send it to whomever is in charge of communications so that that person can distribute it. This will protect the privacy of our families, limit the number of messages received, and ensure that there is no miscommunication. Your cooperation is appreciated! Other communications For several years now we have discussed the need for a method of quick, announcement-style communication, but nothing has yet been implemented. A text blast has been suggested, or perhaps there is an app for such things? If you have an idea, please share! You can send your suggestion to our new Director, Kimberly Williamson, at Kimberly.tampa@gamil.com. Swimmer Recruiting Talk up our team with your friends and neighbors! Swimmers do not need to live in Holly Tree, or be members of the Club in order to swim with us! If your friends/family/neighbors feel that the $400 membership is steep, let them know that

it does include pool AND social activities at the Club for the entire summer, not just swim season. New job recruiting It s not just me & Laurie who have stepped down from our position; there are a few other positions that need new blood. For instance, we are in need of a new Computer Operator! Amanda has done the job beautifully for 2 years and she is ready to train a new recruit. This job can easily be shared, and in fact most other teams do split it between 2-3 people. Please email her at amandaleticiag@gmail.com with any questions about the position. Thanks! We also need a Social Director. Laurie & I have been encompassing this job into our own, but it doesn t have to be that way. This is a big, fun job that could be divided up into event committees. Roslyn does not need to be filling this position in addition to coaching. Let s leave her to do what she has been hired to do and not add more to her plate! Please contact Kimberly if you are interested, or have some thoughts you d like to share. Banquet slideshow here is a link to the slideshow Chip put together from your photos of the season WATCH YOUR VIDEO Thanks for sharing - Enjoy! Out of Season Events/Activities Our pool was selected as the Most Patriotic on July 4 th by the pool management company! As a prize, we have been awarded a pool party with pizza and a DJ! It will take place at the pool from 5-7pm on Friday, August 14. Come on down and enjoy! In late September, we will attempt to have another parent-only Low Country Boil. Meg & Jeff Wood will organize this, and details will be coming soon. Our fourth annual Chili Cook-off! Who would like to host this fun event? This family friendly gathering will ideally take place in mid to late October. Let me know if you would like to offer your home for the evening. Bunko anyone? I d be willing to revive our Hurricane Moms Bunko Night if there is sufficient interest. Email me and vote No, or It s a Go! At the Club Your pool membership doesn t end with the SAIL season; you still have to enjoy dining/social privileges at the Club. Check the Club website www.hollytreecountryclub.com for details on events such as Pasta Night, Evening on the Piazza, and more! And coming on July 30, the first ever Burger Bar! Mark your calendars and make your reservations for this fun dinner.
