The Russian women's teams of Alexandra/Shiryaeva Natalya Uryadova were also ninth on the Peter-and-Paul Fortress sand after being ousted by a tandem from Germany. Julien Prosser is the only player to compete in al five men s events in Russiato date, but the Australian has retired from international competition. 1994 REVISITED, Part 1 - Bjorn Maaseide, who captured the men s 1994 Goodwil Games gold medal with Jan Kvalheim for Norway, returns to St. Petersburg with current partner Iver Horrem. Dmitri Barsouk and Igor Kolodinsky have colected four medals, seven final four finishes and $176,200 in earnings in 12 SWATCH stops this season to rank third overall in world tour points and on the qualifying list for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games behind two teams from Brazil. Prior to this season, the team of Olympians Sergey Ermishin and Mikhail Kouchnerev posted Russia s best SWATCH-FIVB World Tour finish with a bronze medal at the 2000 Canary Island event along with a 2001 Mallorca Open fourth. While Barsouk and Kolodinsky have earned $182,200 for 13 SWATCH stops starting with a 2006 event in Brazil, Ermishin and Kouchnerev compiled only $150,000 for 35 FIVB events together (1998-2000). Russian men have also claimed a pair of FIVB Challenger/Satellite gold medals. Dmitry Areshkin and Edouard Senin captured the 1997 Bulgarian Challenger in Albena while Barsouk and Vladimir Kostioukov on the 2002 Lebanon Satellite in Beirut. Alexandra Shiryaeva and Natalya Uryadova posted the best finishes by a Russian women's team in a SWATCH stop with a fourth at the 2006 Poland Open in Warsaw and seventh at the 2005 Italian Open in Milan. Shiryaeva won the 2003 SWATCH-FIVB U21 World Championships with Anna Morozova in Saint Quay Portrieux, France. Playing in only nine events this season, Shiryaeva and Uryadova currently rank 32nd in SWATCH points and are 21st on Olympic qualifying list. The pair also won the 2006 European Championships in the Netherlands and placed fourth this year at event this past Saturday in Valencia, Spain. BAZOOKA - In his first full-season on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour, Igor Kolodinsky has made a name for himself, especialy after being nicknamed Bazooka by Brazilian Emanuel Rego, the winningest international player in the sport. Kolodinsky has established a tour mark for fastest serve after hitting the 110.0 km/h mark earlier this season in Portugal and Norway. With serving speeds only recorded for centre court matches on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour, Kolodinsky has posted 46 of the 53 good serves over 100.0 km/h this season. Kolodinsky has 16 of the top 17 centre court serves this season with only Germany s Eric Koreng (109.4) breaking the Russian string at the Austrian Grand Slam event. Dmitri Bars Barsouk, Kolodinsky s partner, has the 47th fastest centrecourt serve with a 101.0 reading in Croatia. Avenue de la Gare 12 P.O. Box, 1001 Lausanne, Switzerland Page 2 of 15
