Please make copies of the Teacher Evaluations for all of your teachers! DEADLINE The deadline for turning in all paperwork and SJUSD Cheer Packet is Friday, May 12 th,. All paperwork can be turned into Ms. Phillips or Ashley Nguyen s mailbox in Student Services. Participation in workshops will be prohibited if any forms are missing or incomplete. TRY-OUT DATES: Try-out workshops will be held on May 16 th and 17 th from 5-7pm and an additional help day on May 18 th from 5-6:30pm. Official try-outs will be held on May 19 th at 4pm. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1. The American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors guidelines will be observed and followed. 2. Squad members must help at all fundraisers. 3. Cheer members are expected to be on time and in uniform for all practices and events.

4. Cheer is a big commitment! Team members will be expected to participate in all scheduled school events. PERSONAL CONDUCT 1. Cheerleaders are expected to represent themselves, the team, the coaches, and LHS in a positive manner, exhibiting Lincoln s DO RIGHT motto at all times. 2. All squad members shall remember that they are representatives of their school and community, and exhibit good judgment and proper behavior inside and outside of school. 3. Cheerleaders are expected to show a willing attitude to work hard and to be instructed and coachable. 4. Disrespectful attitude towards any Lincoln staff member, coaches, fellow team members, spectators, and/or athletic opponents will not be tolerated. 5. Disrespectful attitude includes eye rolling, talking back, arguing, huffing of breath, rude tone or demeanor. This also includes body language and any non-verbal language that may be considered inappropriate. 6. Any behavior or attitude deemed inappropriate by coaching staff will result in demerits and could result in removal from an practice, event or the team. 7. Removal from the program could happen at any time, regardless of infractions or demerits. PARENT CONDUCT 1. All parents, guardians, and family members are expected to represent themselves, their cheerleader, the team, and the coaches at all times in a positive manner and exhibit the Lincoln Do RIGHT motto. 2. All parents and guardians are expected to have open communication with all coaches and the cheerleading advisor. 3. All parents and guardians understand that they are responsible for their child to and from away games and before and after practices. ATTENDANCE 1. ABSENCES CAN BE THE DOWNFALL OF A GREAT CHEERLEADING SQUAD. 2. If one or more team members are absent from practice, performance or a game, the other members are forced to make last minute changes. This can be very stressful and dangerous to team members. Absences delay the choreography process and the progress of the team. 3. All team members MUST attend classes regularly and on time. In the event of a school absence, a written note MUST be turned in to the attendance office from a parent or

guardian within 5 school days. You will not participate in any game/event or performance until your school absence has been cleared. 4. If you are ill, have a family emergency, or will be absent for any reason, the coach(es) MUST be notified by a parent or guardian. 5. Members will be given notice of Black Out weeks when members should not be missing any practice leading up to a major team performance. 6. If a member misses practice 2 weeks prior to any major performance they will be removed from the routine. SOCIAL MEDIA 1. All members of the LHS Cheerleading Team must have clean social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.). 2. Members must delete any posts that involve any inappropriate behavior, anything illegal, etc. 3. Members must understand that they represent more than just themselves, they represent their team and their school. 4. Members must understand that their social media accounts may be reviewed at anytime by coaches or the cheerleading advisor/lincoln Admin. 5. Members must be friends with the LHS Cheer Instagram account. 6. If a member does not adhere to the social media rules, a demerit will be given out and/or more serious consequences can be given depending on the nature of the content. SUMMER PRACTICE 1. Members are encouraged to attend all practices that occur over the summertime, as this is when the team will learn different stunts, choreography, and have the most time to bond together as a team. 2. Summer Practice will begin on June 13 th and the last day of practice will be on August 12 th. As of right now, Cheer Camp is TBA. 3. Practices will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays time to be determined as we will be sharing gym space with other sports. SCHOOL PRACTICE 1. It is mandatory that all members be in attendance of practice when school begins on August 16 th. 2. The practice calendar will be sent out as the school year approaches, so please be on the look out for that.

3. The team will have 2-3 practices per week. The most up to date calendars will be sent out on Mondays for Monday Mail as well. 4. Please be advised practices may go as late as 8pm during the week. We do share gym time with other sports teams. Parents please make a conscious effort to pick up your child on time from all practices and team events. 5. 1-2 weekend practices per month may take place once the school year begins. 6. During football season games are usually held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. 7. Members are allowed to have 3 unexcused practices, but must notify coaches ASAP. FUNDRAISING Fundraising is a HUGE part of keeping the Cheerleading Program afloat. It is expected that all members participate in ALL fundraising events. In order to maintain a successful program fundraising has to be an entire program effort. I would strongly suggest parent involvement and support in fundraising events. COMMUNITY SERVICE The Lincoln Cheer Staff believes that community service is an invaluable contribution to the surrounding communities. We expect that ALL cheerleaders will participate in team community service opportunities, as well as individual community service hours in compliance with the 40-hr minimum graduation requirement. CELL PHONE POLICY All members are expected to come into practice with phones on silent and need to remain put away during practices, games or performances. No cell phone use at any time will be tolerated! If you need to make a phone call you must ask coaching staff before doing so. ATHLETE/PARENT/COACHES COMMUNICATION Should you have any questions or concerns, please email the coach directly. Please understand coaches will try and respond within a reasonable time frame. After practice is a great opportunity to approach the coach with you questions or concerns. There are certain times when it is appropriate and inappropriate for a cheerleader to discuss decisions made by the coach. Appropriate times to privately address a concern with the coach; before practice, after practice and/or via email.

Decisions about coaching and program management are solely the responsibility of the coach; boundaries overstepped will be addressed in a private and in a direct manner. o Appropriate concerns to discuss with the coach include mental and/or physical treatment of your child, strategies for improving your child s performance, and behavior issues affecting your child. o Issues not appropriate for a parent to discuss with the coaches include other student athletes, placement in formations and stunts and team strategy. GRADING Coaching staff will have jurisdiction for all members and their grades. All members will be graded on a letter grade scale based on the following: Attendance/Punctuality/Participation o Each member is expected to be on time and to fully participate in all practices and games. If a member is coming late, the members MUST contact Coach Taylor (JV) or Coach Ashley (Varsity) ASAP. If not contacted, members will receive consequences given by respected coach. Practice Attire/Practices/Attitudes o Members will receive half a demerit if not in the correct attire (during the school year). o Any form of attitude that is consistently carried out (after coaches have spoken to member) throughout the season will result in a lower grade. Grading scale as follows: A = 90-100%; Great attitude, team player, on time, etc. B = 80-89%; Great attitude, team player, mostly on time, etc. C = 70-79%; Good attitude, team player, sometimes on time, etc. D = 60-69%; Okay attitude, rarely on time, never in correct attire, etc. F = 59% or lower; Poor attitude, never on time, etc. DEMERIT SYSTEM The demerit system will begin when the school year begins. The demerit system will be as followed: o 1/2 a demerit = Not correct practice/game attire, late with no prior notification. o 1 demerit = Unexcused practices/games, no notification to coaches, attitudes towards other members, coaches, teachers, or faculty, etc. o 4 demerits will result in a meeting with coaches, member, and potentially a parent.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS There will be a separate parent meeting where Coach Ashley and coaching staff will meet with parents to discuss this. TERMINIATION A member may be terminated from the LHS cheerleading team at any time. If a member decides to leave the team, they will not be allowed back on the team during the same season and may lose the possibility to try out the following year depending on the circumstance. REGISTER MY ATHLETE All students interested in trying out for the -18 cheerleading team must complete the Register My Athlete packet online. Packet instructions are available in student services. Lincoln Cheerleading Contract By signing this document, I understand that cheerleading is a time consuming and physically demanding activity. I understand that cheerleading is both a privilege and an honor and it can be a rewarding experience when expectations are met. I understand that I must attend all workshops and tryouts to be considered for a cheerleading position. I understand that coaches will make final team decisions and I understand team placement is final and score sheets will remain confidential. I understand that if I am elected, cheerleading is a class and my grade will be determined by my ability to follow LHS cheer/school expectations. If selected to part of the LHS Cheer Program, I will abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the administrators, advisor and coaches and will be present for all practices, games, fundraisers and/or other events. I understand that failure to comply with rules/regulations will result in demerits given by coaches or advisor and could result in possible removal from the team. I understand by the very nature of the activity, cheerleading, stunting, and gymnastics carry risks of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and sponsor/coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surface is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. If elected, I promise to abide by all rules/regulations and to cooperate, follow any and ALL instructions given by the cheerleading coaches and support all decisions made by coaching staff, thereby fulfilling my duties as a cheerleader for the -18 school year, beginning in May.
