MARATHON & HALF MARATHON ESSENTIAL GUIDE The countdown to the Perth 2016 World Masters Marathon and Half Marathon is underway and we are super excited to be hosting this amazing event! Please read below for important information to assist you on the day: RACE START TIMES Marathon 6.00am Half Marathon 6.30am SPECIAL DRINKS Athlete special drinks will need to be dropped to the WAMC Club rooms on Saturday the 5 th of November between 1.00pm and 5.00pm. *NO SPECIAL DRINKS CAN BE DELIVERED OUT TO THE COURSE ON RACE MORNING* IMPORTANT COURSE POINTS Please pay attention to all course officials. Please follow & obey all event signage. There will be toilets at the start & finish area and there are public toilets, and event toilets also along the course. There will be 5 drinks stations located along the course. Drink Stations Drink Station 1 (21.1km) Drink Station 2 (approx. 2.5km, 18.5km, 23.5km, 39.5km) Drink Station 3 - (approx 5km, 16km, 26km, 37km ) Drink Station 4 - (approx 8km, 16km, 29km, 34km) Drink Station 5 - (approx 10.5km, 31.5km) Please see map at the end of this guide for drink stations, toilets and marshal positions. Majority of the course for both events is run on dual use paths that are open to the public. Please be courteous to all other users. All special drinks must be marked with the athlete s bib number and the drink station required. You will need to place your own special drinks and or gels in tubs to be taken to the marked locations. It will be the runner s responsibility to mark their own items clearly and pick them up along the course. These won t be passed to you as you are running so make sure you mark them so you can spot them easily on the day. No refreshments are to be provided to runners outside the designated drink station areas. BAG DROP Participants can leave their belongings in the West Australian Marathon Club board room. This room will be secured however WAMC accepts no responsibility for your belongings. HYDRATION The temperature is expected to be quite warm on the day. We have SHOTZ electrolyte and water at every drink station. Be sure to keep hydrated throughout your run. TOILETS Six toilet locations are available on each lap of the course plus toilets located at the Start/Finish area. Refer to the course map. FIRST AID St John First Aid will be located at the finish line, and on course. If you require first aid assistance on course, please notify a drink station attendant, course marshal or a course cyclist who will be able to phone for help.
SPECTATOR VANTAGE POINTS The marathon and half marathon will be set against the backdrop of Perth's iconic Swan River, which provides spectators an ideal location for the long-distance events by offering some of the best views and vantage points. VOLUNTEERING Our volunteers are West Australian Marathon Club members and supporters from the local running community who have given up their time to encourage you on your run. Please listen carefully to their instructions and give them a smile as you pass. PARKING ON THE DAY There will be no parking at the club available on the day however there are many free and paid parking options at Crown Casino with some available on the WAMC riverside as well as large amounts of free parking at the old Burswood Dome car park on the East side of the Crown complex. There is a lot of road works going on but don't let that scare you away, we are still in the exact same place FOOD There will be food available to all who attend at the event. Free for athletes and by payment for spectators. The menu includes: - Sausage Sizzle - Fruit Cake - Banana Bread - Croissants - Muffins - Fresh Fruit - Punch - Tea & Coffee - Milo SUN SAFE Don t forget to bring a hat, gels, sunscreen, body glide and your fast shoes!
