Meet your Committee Jo Ballinger - Ladies Captain Jo has been a member since 1982 and in this time till now Jo has achieved outstanding achievements in her Golf Career as a junior and Senior Player. One of her greatest golfing accolades was being chosen in the Australian Secondary Golf Team 2 years Running. Another excellent achievement was wining the Victorian Champion of Champions when representing the Sale Golf Club. Jo has taken on the position as Lady Captain for the first time as well as being on the Match Committee, Social Committee, Corporate Committee as well as the Challenging position of the Sale Golf Club Secretary. Jo has a very happy and helpful person who is willing to help out at all times so that all will have a very pleasant experience at the Sale Golf Club. Kevin Maxfield Men s Captain This is a photo of Kevin and his lovely wife Maria. Kevin has been a member for quite some time and has held different roles throughout his time at the Club. Kevin also voluntarily assists in the Golf Shop and with maintenance around the club. At the AGM in 2016 Kevin was elected Men s Captain. He is adventurous golfer with a handicap of 20 and is passionate on and off the Golf Course. Presidents Report December 2016 2016 has been a very good year for the club. I would like to THANK everyone who has helped out. We have had a count up and we have over forty members volunteering part of their time each week. This is ten percent of the club members, that is incredible but we will accept more help at any time. They have got many jobs done on the golf course, in and around the clubhouse. Looking forward to next year to what else we can achieve.

The club was saddened with passing of Paddy McNaughton who was a life member and Ladies past President. She was also on Ladies Committee for seven years. John Leslie our longest serving member passed away quite suddenly. Cec Jackson a long term member passed away. Ted Brown also a long term member passed way. I would like to congratulate Claire & Matt Portelli on the birth of their first child Ruby all are doing well. I would like to thank all our staff for their work this year. Alan Smith (Smithy) has done a great job again this year serving terrific meals and cold refreshments. Mat Portelli has been busy this year with a lot more golf classes especially the schools, the shop has been busy and the new online time sheet will be a big benefit for the club. Aaron Grame has come and done a great job on our course. The work he put into getting the greens back to a playable condition after coring was very impressive. The course is looking great. Mark Durrant has done a great work with the book keeping this year as well. I would also thank Darren Felmingham and Tom Love for all their work over many years. We wish them well. I would like to thank everyone that came to Presentation Night, especially those that helped organise the night. It was a great success. Our first Service Awards were presented to Pam Schaper, Kevin Maxfield, Ron Smalley and Joanne Ballinger all very deservedly winners. Thanks to Poolside, Heating and Leisure s Glen Schuback for donating again a Webber Q BBQ, winner was Ben Walker. It was good to see a bit of fun in the club house on the Ladies Christmas day breakup, a good day had by all. The Super Santa Sunday was a lot of fun hope all enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone for helping especially Santa. Thanks to Al for a great meal. Thanks to the General Committee for all the work they have done this year and to everyone for such a good year. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. President Greg Good golfing. Program Books The program books are now available in the Golf Shop at the Clubhouse. Please ask a staff member for your copy.

Captains Desk January Qualifiers for the medallist are David Wheeler & Levi Sclater on scratch with Andrew Taylor & Richard Humphrey on nett, Richard Humphrey won the January 2017 monthly medal. I would like to thank those within the club that have continued to help and assist me whilst I am in my current situation. I have about 1.5 weeks to go on my current treatment program. The course at the moment is in as good a condition as many of us have ever seen, particularly at this time of the year. I must congratulate both the course committee and Aaron Grame for the work that is being done. I would also like to thank the team that Ron Smalley has there each Monday morning cleaning up the course. Hopefully I will be back in a couple of Mondays to do the BBQ s again. With a very big thanks to Jo Ballinger, we will have our 2017 Program back at the club for distribution. Within the next 6 weeks we will have the Sale Plate, a Sunday mixed 4BBB Ambrose event as a shot gun start, and then over March Long weekend the Gateway Tournament. The Nine & Dine individual comp has continued over the Xmas break with at times quite a good field. The first half season Team event was won by the Jo Ballinger team, Bamboozies. Well done to Jo and her team. Many thanks to Peter Neligan for his work with the running this event. Regards Kevin Maxfield Club Captain

These people continually give up their time completing all sorts of jobs around the Golf Course.

Now the 2017 season is getting underway we look forward their continued support. Their ongoing commitment is making a huge difference on our Golf course. Our superintendent Aaron is now getting to know the course and the management tools required to produce excellent playing conditions. Although at the present time, due to the extremely dry conditions it can be a challenging job. If any members have ideas, project or chores they would like done or to do, or if people would like to form their own working group by all means contact our Course Superintendent who will be more than willing to discuss and assist in any way he can. We wish everyone good golfing in 2017. Gary Greens Group Pro Shop News & Events January has flown by and we once again have the Gateway Tournament fast approaching. The event, as it always has been, is scheduled on the Labour Day weekend (March 11 th to 13 th ). I would encourage all Members to support and enter this fantastic event with great daily and overall prizes (over $2500 last year) on offer. Entry forms will be circulated within the first half of February. Sponsorship packages are also available. If you are interested, please see a Member of the Corporate Committee for more details. With the Vic Open just around the corner (9 th 12 th Feb at Thirteenth Beach) I have a limited number of season passes available. If you are interested, please see me in the Pro-Shop in the coming days. First in best dressed! Norfolk Island Pro-Am (19 th to 26 th August). A couple of spots still remain. See Matt for package deal information which includes all flights, transfers and accommodation with the best view on the island. Non-golfers / partners also welcome. A big congratulations to Club Honorary Member and Tour Professional David Bransdon on recently gaining his tour card for the 2017 Japanese Tour, which runs from April to November. A fantastic achievement which is well deserved. Good luck Dave!

A friendly reminder to use your club credits either in the Pro-Shop or behind the Bar before the end of this financial year (30 th June). Any credit balance left in the system will be reset to zero on the 1 st July. Any Visitor receiving a DTL or NTP will have credit in our system, with the same rules also applying to them. Both Claire and I would like to thank all of those Members and Visitors that have personally congratulated us on the arrival of Ruby Maree on the 28 th December. Your thoughts and gifts have made this joyous moment in both our lives so much more special. Also, a big thank you to Alan, Sam and the Volunteers for allowing me to have three weeks off over the busy holiday period. Ruby and Mum are doing great and both plan on visiting the Club over the coming months to personally thank you! Etiquette & Course Care I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some general etiquette and course care issues that are becoming a little concerning to Members, Committee and Staff at the Club. 1) If you have booked into a club competition and are unable to play on the day you must personally contact the Pro-Shop and notify the Starter of your intention to cancel, preferably well before your official tee time. This ensures that we can potentially fill the vacant spot and doesn t leave your playing partners hanging on the tee. 2) As per Conditions of Entry General Competitions for All Players (page six of the Golfing Program Season 2017 Starting time). Each Player must be on their designated tee at least five minutes before their official tee time. This is to allow for consistent flow of the tee and to reduce unexpected delays. 3) As per Course Etiquette (page four of the Golfing Program Season 2017 Bunkers) Be sure to smooth out all foot marks and divots with the rake provided. Do not walk up the face of the bunker and please also see that the rake is replaced in the holder. I am astounded at how many golf shoe footprints (most Social Players do not wear golf shoes) I see in the majority of our bunkers when playing in the last group on a Wednesday or Saturday. As proud Members of the Club let us make it our responsibility to see that we leave the bunker we have just exited in a better state than when we entered it. This may involve smoothing out other lazy players marks at certain times. If we all do this it will make a significant difference to the presentation and consistency of each bunker. A win win for all involved.
