Weather Unless you hear otherwise from the Tournament Director, the tournament will generally proceed rain or shine. Final determination on whether it is safe to play will be made at the field by the UIC. Accordingly, all teams must show up at the field on time and ready to play. Score Keeping and Reporting A master scoreboard will be maintained at the McCartney concession building. Both teams appoint an official scorekeeper for the game. Both scorekeepers will sit together and keep score. An official Game Summary Sheet is to be completed, signed by both scorekeepers, and handed in (along with the official score sheets signed by each scorekeeper) to the Tournament Scorekeeper immediately after each game. Score sheets and Game Summary Sheets will be handed out at the Coaches and Managers meeting on June 16 th. Example Game Summary Sheets and the Softball BC scorekeeping guidelines are attached. Location and Facilities A Google Map hyperlink for each park is provided below and in Appendix C, which includes maps of the parks showing the location of the ball diamonds and parking options. Main Site: McCartney Creek Park, 1575 Larkhall Cres, North Vancouver, BC, V7H 2Z3 [map link] Extra Fields: Loutet Park, 898-17 th St E, North Vancouver, BC, V7L 2X1 [map link] McCartney Creek Park (McCartney) is the home field for North Shore Girls Fastpitch and features four diamonds, concession, tennis courts and a playground. McCartney is the main site for the tournament where the majority of games will be played, the master scoreboard will be maintained, and where the dinner and skills competition will take place Saturday evening. Loutet Park (Loutet), located 10 minutes from McCartney, and will be used for some initial round robin games. Every effort has been made to minimize travel between the two sites, and to provide ample time for teams to travel from Loutet to McCartney. [map link] Parking Please respect all parking bylaws and always be considerate of the neighborhood and residents around the parks. Appendix C contains important guidelines for parking at both McCartney and Loutet that we urge you to pass on to all team members (coaches, managers, players, parents and guests). In particular please note the high-risk parking zones around each park, and that non-resident parking is prohibited in the neighborhood North of McCartney Park. See Appendix C for details. Concession (food, water, etc.) The concession at McCartney will be open all day Saturday and Sunday, including Saturday evening during the players and coaches dinner and the skills competition. There is no concession at Loutet teams will need to bring their own food, water, etc. Lonsdale Avenue has many grocery stores, coffee shops, etc. just 2 minutes by car to the West of Loutet. Washrooms, Health and Safety Washrooms at McCartney are located on the West side of the concession building. Washrooms at Loutet are located in the building next to the parking lot at the South diamond. In addition to the use of appropriate safety equipment during games, all coaches, players, parents and spectators are reminded to drink plenty of water and, in the event of warm weather, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade between games. We may have some shelters set up but space will be very limited. Teams are encouraged to bring their own tents and chairs especially in the event of showers. Minor players must wear full protective catching gear. A batting helmet with a mask is not considered an appropriate mask. Players must wear FULL UNIFORMS and NO JEWELRY. Coaches should adhere to required dress codes including footwear. Official time will be kept by the umpire unless the umpire delegates this to the scorekeeper. No persons except the designated scorekeeper(s) for each team are allowed behind the backstops. Each team is to appoint an official scorekeeper who will sit together to keep score, including the tally of runs and bases touched. An official Game Summary Sheet is to be completed, signed by both scorekeepers, and handed in (along with the official score sheets prepared and signed by each scorekeeper) to the Tournament Scorekeeper at the end of each game. Coaches are responsible for ensuring the dugout is left clean of debris and personal items at the end of each game. Coaches are responsible for ensuring all team members (coaches and players) have current BC Medical coverage, and have medical numbers and emergency contact information on hand including for pickup players. Teams should have a first-aid kid on hand. Appendix B: Skills Competition The skills competition takes place Saturday evening (June 18 th ) immediately after the dinner. All teams are required to participate. Only the players playing in the tournament are permitted to participate. For safety please move away from the Diamond 1 outfield area by 6:15pm, and proceed to your first event. There are 4 events in the skills competition. They do not need to be completed in any particular order. Teams must pick a different player from their roster to represent the team in each individual event. For the Home Run Derby please send 2 extra players to help pick up balls. A single player cannot participate in more than one individual event. Except for injury or disability, all players from the team are expected to participate in the team event(s). Scores from all 4 events are added together to arrive at the team s total score. 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place prizes will be awarded to the teams with the three highest total scores. Ties will be broken by additional head-to-head base-running relay(s). Fastest Throw (individual event) McCartney 3 @ 6:15 pm One player per team to participate. Each participant will be permitted to throw up to 5 balls. Any overhand throwing method is permitted (no underhand pitches). Speed will be measured using a radar gun. The player s final score will be based solely on her fastest throw. Overall results will be scaled from 0 to 20 based on the overall fastest throw. Fastest Pitch (individual event) McCartney 3 @ 6:15 pm This event is identical to the Fastest Throw, except participants in this event are required to throw an underhand pitch. Home Run Hitting Derby (individual event) McCartney 1 @ 6:15 pm In addition to your hitter, each team must send 2 additional players to help pick up balls. One player per team to participate. Each participant hits 10 regular 11 softball balls from a T placed on top of home plate. Scores are based on number of hit balls that, in the judgment of the event scorekeepers, land cleanly (not bounce or roll) between the foul lines on the outfield grass. Overall results scaled from 0 to 20 (i.e. each home run counts as 2 points). Base Running Relay (team event) McCartney 2 @ 6:15 pm Two teams to line up: one behind home plate and the other behind 2 nd base. When time starts, the first runners from each team start runs around touching all the bases in order until she reaches her team s starting base and tags the next runner. Each team must make 15 complete laps around all the bases, touching every base in order. Some will need to run twice if the team has fewer than 15 players. Every physically able player on the team must run at least once, and no player may run more than twice. If a runner misses touching a base, she must immediately go back and touch that base and then continue running from that point. The team s next runner in line may not start until the previous runner reaches the team s starting base and tags her. This is a timed event. Scores will be based on the total time it takes each team to complete the relay (15 complete laps). Overall results will be scaled from 0 to 20 based on speed compared to the fastest team. 2016 U12 C Region 2 Championships Information Package 7 P age
