The Crusaders' Amber Lindfors hit a layup at the buzzer, lifting her team to a 70-68 victory. Liberty Assistant Coach Andrea "Andy" Bloodworth will get to coach against her sister, Valparaiso Head Coach Tracey Dorow. Meanwhile, former Liberty great Megan (Frazee) Leuzinger will make her return to the Vines Center as one of Dorow's assistants. Liberty will be seeking its first win over Valparaiso and its first-ever victory over a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) foe. The Lady Flames are facing their second MVC opponent in three weeks, following a Nov. 17 loss at Drake. Lady Flames sophomore Ola Makurat has scored in double figures in back-to-back games, including a team-high and season-high 14 points on Tuesday. VALPARAISO Valparaiso Head Coach Tracey Dorow, in her sixth season with the Crusaders, is the sister of Liberty Assistant Coach Andrea "Andy" Bloodworth. Bloodworth spent two seasons (2005-06 and 2006-07) as an assistant at Valparaiso before coming to Liberty. One of Dorow's assistant coaches is former Liberty standout Megan (Frazee) Leuzinger. Leuzinger played with the Lady Flames from 2005-06 through 2008-09 and was a two-time Big South Player of the Year (2008, 2009) and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American (2008, 2009). She is in her second year on staff at Valparaiso. First-year Valparaiso Director of Basketball Operations Kevin Clark II served as Liberty's graduate assistant during the 2016-17 season. He is also engaged to marry former Lady Flame Catherine Kearney. Before coming to Valparaiso, Dorow was Ferris State's head coach for 14 seasons. During that time, current Liberty Director of Operations Sarah Boruta served in the same capacity on Dorow's staff for three seasons (2005-06 through 2007-08). Picked to finish ninth of 10 teams in its first season as a Missouri Valley Conference member, Valparaiso is 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road to begin the season. The Crusaders are in the midst of a four-game road swing, which will also include a visit to Longwood, Sunday at 2 p.m. LAST MEETING WITH VALPARAISO NOV. 25, 2016 VALPARAISO 70, LIBERTY 68 VALPARAISO, IND. (ARC) Amber Lindfors' layup at the buzzer gave Valparaiso a dramatic 70-68 win in the first meeting between the two teams. Kierra Johnson-Graham's layup put Liberty on top 68-64 with 1:21 to play before Valparaiso ended the game with six straight points. Audrey Rettstatt (14 points), Nene Johnson (13 points, 7 assists, 0 turnovers) and Johnson-Graham (10 points, 8 rebounds) paced Liberty. Dani Franklin's 29 points and 11 boards sparked the Crusaders. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES Liberty has survived a grueling travel schedule to begin the season, playing five road/neutral games in four different states (Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Virginia). The Lady Flames spent 11 total nights in seven different hotels in the 17 days between Nov. 9-25. Liberty has flown through seven different airports already this season, including Atlanta, Des Moines, Detroit, Dulles, Hartford, O'Hare and Raleigh/Durham. The Lady Flames still have at least one more set of flights ahead of them, with the UMKC Roo Holiday Classic scheduled for Dec. 19-20 in Kansas City, Mo. Liberty has not played its first five games away from the Vines Center since 2007-08, when the Lady Flames tipped off the year with six straight road/neutral contests. LADY FLAMES AT THE VINES CENTER Tuesday's home-opening win over Limestone marked the Lady Flames' 350th contest at the Vines Center all-time. This is Liberty's 28th season of basketball at the Vines Center. The Lady Flames have won 79 percent of their home games at the Vines Center in facility history, including 85 percent under Carey Green. Liberty's 9-5 home record in 2016-17 was its worst mark at the Vines Center since the 1995-96 Lady Flames went 5-8. See page 9 for more on the Vines Center. LADY FLAMES VS. Liberty is 0-2 all-time against Missouri Valley Conference opponents. Valparaiso is in its first year as a conference member in. The Lady Flames tipped off the 2010-11 season with a 40-35 loss to Creighton, Nov. 12, 2010 at the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, N.C. Just two weeks ago (Nov. 17), Liberty lost a 96-68 decision at Drake in a Preseason WNIT consolation contest in Des Moines, Iowa. ON THIS DATE: Liberty is 6-5 all-time on Dec. 2, but the Lady Flames have lost their last two Dec. 2 outings. DEC. 2 The Lady Flames' most recent Dec. 2 victory came in 2000, when Liberty posted a 64-58 home win over Norfolk State. Liberty is 104-125 all-time in December, including 59-55 under Carey Green and 1-6 last season. 3
