Welcome and thank you from Chairman Ian Fawcett to all that had travelled and were present for the meeting with a quick run through of agenda. 2. MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD 10 TH SEPTEMBER 2016 The Minutes of the last AGM were published on the website for the membership and it was agreed to approve these as a correct record of the proceedings. Proposed: Pete Ward Seconded: Richard Hyett 3. CHAIRMAN S REPORT Ian Fawcett welcomed all present from North Wales and those that had travelled from Cardiff to the meeting. He advised that the AGM is to move through the regions every year from 2017 in order to allow all members to attend the annual meetings as often as possible. Ian gave special thanks to the Ski Centre Cardiff staff for their work throughout the year. Ian also thanked Richard Hughes and Gary Haines for travelling up to the AGM. Finally, Ian wished Plas-y-Brenin Slope continued success with North Wales Snowsports Club doing what it can to support the facility s continued growth. Ian also congratulated Jayne Wainwright for her award. 4. ACCOUNTS & DIRECTORS REPORT This report refers to accounts for the period October 2015 - September 2016 and reports upon the activities of the company to August 2016. Through the last year we would like to highlight the following achievements and activities; Successful 10 th anniversary Welsh Alpine Championships in Champery Switzerland. Increased members newsletter to twice a month. Invested in improvements to the facilities at the slope we manage in Cardiff, putting in a start ramp, Freestyle ramps and rails, viewing platform and improving the surface. Increased turnover and participation at Cardiff Ski & Snowboard Centre. Continued to support NWSC in the running of Plas y Brenin ski slope. Continued to improve levels of participation in schools skiing events. Extraordinary General Meeting 10 th December 2016 1
Continued to develop the programme of the Alpine Development; Training sessions in North & South Wales Annual training camp at Landgraaf, Holland attended by 52 participants Menna Fitzpatrick won the Overall World Cup Title for visually impaired skiers Maisee Potter (Bangor) competed for GB in European Cup Races, finishing 17 th at an event in Lenk and competed in the World Junior Champs. Megan Jenkins & Olivia Ward selected to GB Junior Ski Team Georgia Hallett won the Indoor GBR Series & David Hatcher won the GBR Outdoor Series 2016. David Hatcher finished the 2015 artificial slope season ranked No1 in the UK on outdoor artificial slopes & won the British Artificial Slope Championships. The following period 2016-2017 the company will focus upon; After resolutions passed at previous AGM in September, we will restructure the board of SSW improving discipline representation as well as geographical and gender representation on the Board. Maintaining excellent and regular membership communications. Running the 11 th Welsh Alpine Championships in Champery, Switzerland. Increasing engagement in our activities through promotion and publicity. Establishing discipline development pathway activity across all snowsport disciplines, especially Snowboard, Nordic and Freestyle. Maintaining profitability of the company. Ensuring annual accounts are brought to the membership earlier, moving our AGM closer to year end accounting period. Seeking to increase funding opportunities for clubs and affiliated bodies to develop targeted opportunities for development. Carrying out an audit of facilities for snowsports within Wales and campaigning for reinvestment in facilities across Wales. Financial Report October 2015-September 2016 The company accounts show a profit for the period of 563 this is represented by a trading profit by SSW (NGB Activities) of 894 and the Ski Centre trading loss of ( 331) Company Reserves September 2016 stood at 71,637 Ski Centre The Ski Centre s 2015/2016 financial year saw a trading loss of ( 331) Trading receipts were increased by 30k on the previous year. A write off of old stock, increasing short-term depreciation costs for this year. An increased investment in improvements at the ski centre, start ramps, new lift motor Increased costs of staffing to deliver an excellent programme. It should also be noted the centre is made available for exclusive use for over 20 days per year to SSW (NGB Activities) delivery of coach education courses and events. Snowsport Wales Snowsport Wales operated at a profit of 894 for the period of accounts 2015/2016. In considering the accounts for the period the following notes should be taken into account; A write off of old stock, increasing short-term depreciation costs for this year. We show an increase in athlete development and events income and expenditure. This is in line with the increased activities and allocation of Sport Wales grant carried over from the previous year. We show an increase in subscription income, this is partly due to an incorrect posting of subscription income in 2015. We show a decrease in Coach Education income, this is due to incorrect posting of subscription income in 2015 (see note above). We have an increase in sundry income following the fundraising event in June 2016. Approved: Mark James Seconded: Richard Hughes 5. Appointment of Discipline Directors As agreed at the Annual General Meeting on the 10 th September 2016, the Board wishes to amend the roles of Directors on the Board of Snowsport Cymru Wales to ensure representation across all disciplines of snowsports. Ian Fawcett thanked those Directors that would be retiring or stepping down. He also thanks all nominees for putting themselves forward for Director roles. There were 2 proxy votes received, backing all current nominations. Voting went as follows: Alpine Director: Nick Roe Disability and Inclusion Director: Peter Harris Freestyle Director: Rob Taylor Snowboarding Director: Kate Potter Nordic Director: David Hughes Ian Fawcett welcomed new Directors. Robin Kellen thanked Jayne Wainwright for all her hard work and for hosting the meeting. He also thanked Pete Ward for all is hard work through the year. Robin advised he would like to get people on board with coming to meetings and getting together to socialise more often. He thanked everyone again for attending.
