CLASS: SOULKNIFE The soulknife class, as presented in the Expanded Psionics Handbook, is an intriguing class that, sadly, has a less than spectacular implementation. It has the traits of both warriors and stealthy experts, but no real strengths in either role. Everything it can do, other classes can do better, often without much effort. It shoehorns players into a niche role without giving much leeway in the execution of that role. For these reasons, the variant soulknife presented below was created. The variant soulknife completely replaces the standard soulknife presented in the Expanded Psionics Handbook. It should provide for interesting and varied soulknife characters. GAME RULE INFORMATION Soulknives have the following game statistics. Abilities: Strength is an ideal ability for a soulknife, augmenting his melee prowess. Dexterity provides better defense and bonuses on ranged attacks, and is useful in the arts of stealth, at which many soulknives excel. Constitution upgrades the soulknife's toughness. Alignment: Any. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Soulknives are proficient with all simple weapons, with their own mind blades (regardless of form), and with light armor and shields (except tower shields). 1

Mind Blade (Su): As a move action, a soulknife can create a semisolid blade composed of psychic energy distilled from his own mind. The blade is identical in all ways (except visually) to a short sword of a size appropriate for its wielder. For instance, a Medium soulknife materializes a Medium mind blade that he can wield as a light weapon, and the blade deals 1d6 points of damage (crit 19-20/x2). Soulknives who are smaller or larger than Medium create mind blades identical to short swords appropriate for their size, with a corresponding change to the blade's damage. The wielder of a mind blade gains the usual benefits to his attack roll and damage roll from a high Strength bonus. The blade can be broken (it has hardness 10 and 10 hit points); however, a soulknife can simply create another on his next move action. The moment he relinquishes his grip on his blade, it dissipates (unless he intends to throw it; see below). A mind blade is considered a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. A soulknife can use feats such as Power Attack or Combat Expertise in conjunction with the mind blade just as if it were a normal weapon. He can also choose mind blade for feats requiring a specific weapon choice, such as Weapon Specialization. Powers or spells that upgrade weapons can be used on a mind blade. A soulknife's mind blade improves as the character gains higher levels. At 4th level and every other level thereafter, the mind blade gains a cumulative +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls (+2 at 6th level, +3 at 8th level, +4 at 10th level, and so on). Note that the enhancement bonus of the mind blade cannot exceed +5. The soulknife may (and, indeed, must, after the enhancement bonus exceeds +5) apply a special ability from the table below instead of an enhancement bonus. A soulknife can choose any combination of weapon special abilities and/or enhancement bonus that does not exceed the total allowed by the soulknife s level. Even in places where psionic effects do not normally function (such as within a null psionics field), a soulknife can attempt to sustain his mind blade by making a DC 20 Will save. On a successful save, the soulknife maintains his mind blade for a number of rounds equal to his class level before he needs to check again. On an unsuccessful 2

attempt, the mind blade vanishes. As a move action on his turn, the soulknife can attempt a new Will save to rematerialize his mind blade while he remains within the psionics negating effect. The weapon ability or abilities remain the same every time the soulknife materializes his mind blade (unless he decides to reassign its abilities; see below). The ability or abilities apply to any form the mind blade takes, including the use of the shape mind blade or bladewind class abilities. A soulknife can reassign the ability or abilities he has added to his mind blade. To do so, he must first spend 8 hours in concentration. After that period, the mind blade materializes with the new ability or abilities selected by the soulknife. Weapon Focus (Mind Blade): A soulknife gains Weapon Focus (mind blade) as a bonus feat. Wild Talent: A soulknife gains Wild Talent as a bonus feat. (This class feature provides the character with the psionic power he needs to materialize his mind blade, if he does not otherwise have the psionic subtype.) Bonus Feat: At 2nd level and every 4 levels thereafter (6th, 10th, 14th, and so on), the soulknife gains a bonus psionic feat. Throw Mind Blade (Ex): A soul knife of 2nd level or higher can throw his mind blade as a ranged weapon with a range increment of 30 feet. Whether or not the attack hits, a thrown mind blade then dissipates. A soulknife of 3rd level or higher can make a psychic strike (see below) with a thrown mind blade and can use the blade in conjunction with other special abilities (such as Knife to the Soul; see below). Psychic Strike (Su): As a move action, a soulknife of 3rd level or higher can imbue his mind blade with destructive psychic energy. This effect deals an extra 1d8 points of damage to the next living, nonmindless target he successfully hits with a melee attack (or ranged attack, if he is using the throw mind blade ability). Creatures immune to mind-affecting effects are immune to psychic strike damage. (Unlike the rogue's sneak attack, the psychic strike is not precision damage and can affect creatures otherwise immune to extra damage from critical hits or more than 30 feet away, provided they are living, nonmindless creatures not immune to mind-affecting effects.) A mind blade deals this extra damage only once when this ability is called upon, but a soulknife can imbue his mind blade with psychic energy again by taking another move action. Once a soulknife has prepared his blade for a psychic strike, it holds the extra energy until it is used. Even if the soulknife drops the mind blade (or it otherwise dissipates, such as when it is thrown and misses), it is still imbued with psychic energy when the soulknife next materializes it. At every four levels beyond 3rd (7th, 11th, 15th, and 19th), the extra damage from a soulknife's psychic strike increases as shown on the Table above. Free Draw (Su): At 5th level, a soulknife becomes able to materialize his mind blade as a free action instead of a move action. He can make only one attempt to materialize the mind blade per round, however. Shape Mind Blade (Su): At 5th level, a soulknife gains the ability to change the form of his mind blade. As a full-round action, he can change his mind blade to replicate a longsword (damage 1d8 for a Medium weapon wielded as a one-handed weapon) or a bastard sword (damage 1d10 for a Medium weapon, but he must wield it as a two- 3

handed weapon unless he knows the Exotic Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword) feat). If a soulknife shapes his mind blade into the form of a bastard sword and wields it twohanded, he adds 1-1/2 times his Strength bonus to his damage rolls, just like when using any other two-handed weapon. Alternatively, a soulknife can split his mind blade into two identical short swords, suitable for fighting with a weapon in each hand. (The normal penalties for fighting with two weapons apply.) However, both mind blades have an enhancement bonus 1 lower than the soulknife would otherwise create with a single mind blade. The mind blade retains the shape given to it using this class feature every time it is formed until the soulknife reshapes it. If the soulknife loses access to this class feature due to negative levels or level loss due to death, his mind blade regresses to its original short sword form. Bladewind (Su): At 9th level, a soulknife gains the ability to momentarily fragment his mind blade into numerous identical blades, each of which strikes at a nearby opponent. As a full attack, when wielding his mind blade, a soulknife can give up his regular attacks and instead fragment his mind blade to make one melee attack at his full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. Each fragment functions identically to the soulknife's regular mind blade. When using bladewind, a soulknife forfeits any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats or abilities (such as the Cleave feat or the haste spell). The mind blade immediately reverts to its previous form after the bladewind attack. Greater Weapon Focus (Mind Blade): A soulknife gains Greater Weapon Focus (mind blade) as a bonus feat at 9th level. Knife to the Soul (Su): Beginning at 13th level, when a soulknife executes a psychic strike, he can choose to substitute Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma damage (his choice) for extra dice of damage. For each die of extra damage he gives up, he deals 1 point of damage to the ability score he chooses. A soulknife can combine extra dice of damage and ability damage in any combination. The soulknife decides which ability score his psychic strike damages and the division of ability damage and extra dice of damage when he imbues his mind blade with the psychic strike energy. Multiple Throw (Ex): At 17th level and higher, a soulknife can throw a number of mind blades per round equal to the number of melee attacks he could make. Double Strike (Su): At 20th level, the soulknife s mind blade can retain the energy needed for a psychic strike longer. When the soulknife makes a successful psychic strike with his mindblade, the next attack he makes will also do psychic strike damage, as long as it is made before the beginning of his next turn. Once this second psychic strike is made, the mind blade s extra energy is used up and it will not deal extra psychic strike damage unless imbued again. Ability damage from Knife to the Soul lingers in the blade during a double strike, just like normal psychic strike damage. 4

CHARACTER OPTIONS HIDDEN TALENT Your psionic talent is strong enough to manifest a single power. Level: 1st Replaces: Wild Talent class ability Benefit: You gain the Hidden Talent feat instead of the Wild Talent feat at 1st level (see Expanded Psionic Handbook, page 67). You gain 2 psionic power points, can now learn any psionic feat for which you meet the prerequisites, can expend your psionic focus, and can gain a single 1st-level power from any list. Special: Normally the Hidden Talent feat can be taken only once at 1st level, but a soulknife with this class ability can take this feat multiple times, each time gaining an additional 2 psionic power points and another 1st-level power. A soulknife with this class ability can also take the Hidden Talent feat as one of his bonus feats at 2nd level and every 4 levels thereafter. The most common powers chosen with this class ability are force screen and inertial armor since they fit the theme of a soulknife, but many choose other powers. BONUS FEATS You sacrifice power for skill and technique. Level: 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th, and 19th. Replaces: You lose all psychic strike class abilities at the above levels. Benefit: In place of the psychic strike class ability, you gain a bonus feat at each level above. You may choose any psionic feat or any feat a fighter might choose as a fighter bonus feat. You must meet any prerequisites for the feat you choose. 5

FEATS This section introduces a new type of feat: Kensai. All Kensai feats require the mind blade class feature to use and grant +1 to your effective level for determining your mind blade s enhancement bonus, to a maximum of your character level. This stacks with the effective levels granted by the Mindblade Kensai feat. ARMOR AND SHIELD WEAPONRY [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You may add weaponry to your soul armor or shield. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, Mind Blade Shaper, Soul Armor, Soul Shield, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may add spikes or similar extras to your soul armor and soul shield. These additions follow the same rules for enhancements as forming an additional mind blade. You cannot form an additional mind blade when you have spikes on your soul armor or soul shield. Special: You may only form spikes on your soul armor OR soul shield using this feat. You cannot have spikes on both at the same time. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. BLADE OF MIGHT [KENSAI, PSIONIC] For you, there is no blade. There is merely power. Prerequisites: Wis 13, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You treat your mind blade as though it were weightless. Any mind blade you create is also treated as a weapon of your alignment for purposes of bypassing damage reduction. If you are neutral on any alignment axis, you choose one alignment piece from that axis to have your mind blade emulate. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. DECEPTIVE BLADE [PSIONIC] You have developed a style of mind blade combat that focuses on trickery. Materializing your mind blade just before you strike, blinking your blade from one hand to the other, springing blades forth from elbows and knees such techniques would be impossible for any other weapon. Prerequisite: Ability to generate a mind blade. Benefit: You may feint in combat as part of the action used to materialize your mind blade. You add Bluff to your list of soulknife class skills. Special: If you possess the Improved Feint feat and the psychic strike class feature, you may also charge your psychic strike. 6

DUELING BLADE [PSIONIC] Your mind blade reacts to threats in ways no other weapon could, blinking between parries and ripostes at the slightest thought. Even veteran warriors have difficulty fending off your supernatural counterattacks. Prerequisite: Ability to generate a mind blade. Benefit: If you are fighting defensively with your mind blade, and an opponent misses you in melee, you may make an attack of opportunity against that opponent with your mind blade. Ignore the penalty to attack rolls from fighting defensively for this attack. Special: If you possess the Combat Expertise feat, you may use this ability while using that feat instead of fighting defensively. You may also increase the penalty from Combat Expertise up to your base attack bonus (exceeding the normal limit of -5), provided you are attacking with your mind blade. EXOTIC MIND BLADE [PSIONIC] You can shape your mind blade into different types of weapons. Prerequisite: Shape mind blade class feature. Benefit: Choose one melee weapon, such as the flail. You can use your shape mind blade ability to reshape your mind blade into the form of this weapon. If you choose a light weapon, you may shape your mind blade into two identical copies of that weapon, although its enhancement bonus is reduced as it would be for shaping two short swords. If you choose a double weapon, each end has an enhancement bonus one lower than normal. Special: You may select this feat multiple times. Each time you do, you may select a different melee weapon to shape your mind blade into. FILL THE BLADE [PSIONIC] You can charge up your mind blade swiftly. Prerequisite: Psychic strike +4d8. Benefit: By expending your psionic focus, you can imbue your mind blade with the energy for a psychic strike as a swift action. If the attack imbued by this ability successfully deals psychic strike damage, you do not gain additional imbued attacks as per the Double Strike class ability. Double Strike only applies to normally-charged psychic strikes. Normal: You can only imbue your mind blade with the energy for a psychic strike as a move action. IMPROVED ARMOR AND SHIELD WEAPONRY [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You may add weaponry to your soul armor or shield. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Armor and Shield Weaponry, Blade of Might, Mind Blade Shaper, Soul Armor, Soul Shield, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may add spikes or similar extras to your soul armor and soul shield. These additions have the same enhancement bonus as your normal mind blade. In addition, you may now form the spikes and still form dual mind blades, in addition to having spikes on both your shield and your armor. 7

Special: If you have the Student of the Dual Blades feat, you may give the armor or shield weapons separate special abilities than those of your mind blade. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. IMPROVED MIND BLADE SHAPER [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You mind blade shaping skills are even greater. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, Mind Blade Shaper, mind blade class feature, shape mind blade class feature, throw mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may shape your mind blade into any weapon you are proficient with, whether melee or ranged. When forming two weapons, you may create any combination of two weapons, such as a shortsword and a longsword. You may also form double weapons, following the same rules as forming two weapons. You must still follow the rules for handedness of a weapon (a greatsword still requires two hands to wield, etc.). Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. IMPROVED SOUL ARMOR [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have reached the pinnacle of your soul armor abilities. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, Soul Armor, mind blade class feature. Benefits: Soul armor you create now has the same enhancement bonus and abilties as your mind blade. Its minimum armor bonus is now 4. Special: The Will save to retain the armor in a null psionics field has a DC of 20, and is made separately from the Will save to maintain the mind blade. For the purposes of class features and anything that is based on what kind of armor you re wearing, soul armor counts as light armor. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. IMPROVED SOUL SHIELD [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have greater abilities with your soul shield. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Soul Shield, Blade of Might, mind blade class feature. Benefits: Your soul shield now has a minimum shield bonus of 3 and gains the full enhancement bonus and special abilities of your mind blade. Special: The Will save to retain a soul shield in a null psionics field has a DC of 20, made separately from any other such Will saves. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. MASTER OF THE DUAL BLADES [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have mastered the use of dual mind blades. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Mind Blade Shaper, Improved Mind Blade Shaper, Two- Weapon-Fighting, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Blade of Might, Student of the Dual Blades, mind blade class feature, shape mind blade class feature. Benefits: When wielding two mind blades, your penalties for fighting with two weapons are reduced by 2 (overlapping the reduction from Student of the Dual Blades). 8

Also, when wielding dual mind blades, both mind blades have the same enhancement bonus as your normal mind blade. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. MIND BLADE FINESSE [PSIONIC] You can handle large mind blades with grace rather than savagery. Prerequisites: Shape mind blade class feature, Weapon Finesse, Knowledge (psionics) 4 ranks, Balance 3 ranks. Benefit: The benefits of your Weapon Finesse feat now extend to the mind blade, even when it is in forms that cannot normally be the subject of Weapon Finesse (including two-handed forms). Normal: Weapon Finesse only applies to light weapons and specially-indicated onehanded weapons. A mind blade can only gain its benefit while in a light weapon s form. MIND BLADE KENSAI [PSIONIC] Your mind blade continues to improve despite the following of a different path. Prerequisite: Psychic strike +1d8. Benefit: Add four to your effective soulknife level for the purposes of determining your mind blade s enhancement bonus class feature, to a maximum of your character level. The increased effective level stacks where applicable to the increase in effective soulknife level from prestige classes. Special: If you take levels in a class that provides similar abilities, the extra levels stack where applicable. MIND BLADE SHAPER [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have far more options than normal for your mind blade. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, mind blade class feature, shape mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may shape your mind blade into any melee weapon you are proficient with. When forming two weapons, they must still be light weapons, and both weapons formed are the same, each with an enhancement bonus one less than that of a single mind blade. In addition, shaping your mind blade only requires a move action. You cannot form double weapons using this feat. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. POISONED BLADE [PSIONIC] You are able to absorb poison into your body and deliver it with your mind blade. Prerequisites: Mind blade class feature, Autohypnosis 6 ranks, Con 13. Benefit: As a move action, you may absorb one dose of poison in your possession into your body. No mortal magic can detect the presence of this poison unless you wish it. Any time you hit an enemy with your mind blade, you can choose to deliver an absorbed dose of poison as if you had struck them with the poison applied to the blade. This may be used with the Throw Mind Blade ability, but in that case you must decide to 9

deliver the poison before you throw your mind blade. When performing a bladewind, you may also deliver poison, and the poison from a single dose is applied to each blade fragment. You may only have one dose of poison absorbed per point of Constitution bonus (minimum 1) at any one time, and delivering a poisoned strike uses up the absorbed poison as normal. If your Constitution modifier decreases (for instance, due to ability damage), an appropriate amount of stored poison becomes unavailable until your modifier returns to its higher value. Special: If you have the Shuriken Mind Blade feat, you may absorb an additional twenty doses of poison, although these can only be used when throwing shuriken mind blades. Shuriken mind blades can use your regular poison reserve as well as this unique reserve if necessary. You may select this feat multiple times. Each time you do, you may store a number of additional doses of poison at any one time equal to your Constitution modifier. QUICKSHAPER [PSIONIC] You can quickly and easily change the shape of your mind blade. Prerequisites: Free Draw and Shape Mind Blade class features. Benefit: You can change the shape of your mind blade as a swift action. Normal: You must spend a full-round action to change the shape of your mind blade. RECKLESS BLADE [PSIONIC] Reacting to your zeal for battle, your mind blade shifts slightly into a truly mighty, if unwieldy, weapon on the charge. While awkward, this temporary change is nevertheless devastating. Prerequisites: Ability to generate a mind blade, Dex 13. Benefit: When charging, you may choose to reduce your Dexterity bonus to your Armor Class by any amount (up to your maximum Dexterity bonus to AC) to add this same amount to your mind blade damage. Both these changes last until the beginning of your next turn. Special: If you possess the Power Attack feat and your mind blade is in a two-handed weapon form (or you are using a one-handed mind blade form in two hands), instead add twice this amount to damage. SHURIKEN MIND BLADE [PSIONIC] You may fragment your thrown mind blades into a swarm of shuriken-like projectiles. Prerequisites: Free draw class feature, shape mind blade class feature. Benefit: When throwing your mind blade, you may choose to fragment your blade into shuriken-shaped projectiles as a free action. Each projectile is treated exactly like a shuriken, dealing 1d2 points of damage for a medium soulknife with a 10 ft. range increment. Your mind blade fragments into enough shuriken to make multiple attacks per round (up to your maximum number of attacks). Your mind blade automatically reverts to its normal form at the end of your turn, although you may revert it earlier as a free action. Special: If you possess the Multiple Throw class feature, your mind blade shuriken have a range increment of 50 ft. instead of 10 ft. 10

SOUL ARMOR [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have learned to focus your mind to create armor in addition to weapons. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may create armor in the same way you create your mind blade. Soul armor grants an armor bonus equal to half the number of kensai feats you have (minimum 2). It has half the enhancement bonus of your mind blade (minimum 0) and half the special ability enhancements of your mind blade (minimum 0). Soul armor may have any of the following special abilities assigned to it: fortification (light, medium, or heavy), ghost touch, gleaming, mindarmor, power resistance, quickness, shadow (as a +2 bonus), improved shadow (as a +3 bonus), greater shadow (as a +4 bonus), and spell resistance. Special: The Will save to retain the armor in a null psionics field has a DC of 25, and is made separately from the Will save to maintain the mind blade. For the purposes of class features and anything that is based on what kind of armor you re wearing, soul armor counts as light armor. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. SOUL SHIELD [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You may create a shield to go with your mind blade. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You may create a shield to go with any one-handed mind blade you create. The shield grants a shield bonus equal one third of the number of kensai feats you have (minimum 1). However, it has only half the enhancement bonus and equivalent special abilities of your mind blade. You may not create a soul shield version of any shield you are not proficient with. Soul shields may be assigned the same special abilities as soul armor, plus arrow catching, arrow deflection, and bashing. Special: The Will save to retain a soul shield in a null psionics field has a DC of 25, made separately from any other such Will saves. A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. SOUL WARRIOR [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You are most at home using your own creations. Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, any 3 other kensai feats, mind blade class feature. Benefits: You gain a +1 competence bonus to any rolls involving your mind weapons or mind armor. Mind blades gain a +1 competence bonus on attack and damage rolls. Mind armor or shields grant a +1 competence bonus to their respective bonuses to AC. If you have or gain the ability to create soul armor or soul shields, you do not have to make any Concentration checks to maintain them in a null psionics field. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. STUDENT OF THE DUAL BLADES [KENSAI, PSIONIC] You have learned to adapt to the weightlessness of your mind blade. 11

Prerequisites: Wis 13, Blade of Might, Mind Blade Shaper, Two-Weapon Fighting, mind blade class feature, shape mind blade class feature. Benefits: When wielding two mind blades, your penalties for fighting with two weapons are reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 0). In addition, you may assign different special abilities to each separate weapon, although the total cannot exceed the normal limit for wielding two mind blades. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. WIELDER OF THE TRUE BLADE [KENSAI, PSIONIC] Your mind blade s power is greater than that of any other. Prerequisites: Wis 15, Blade of Might, mind blade class feature. Benefits: Any mind blade you create deals damage as though it were a weapon one size larger than your size and is now treated as a force effect. You also no longer need to make Will saves to form your mind blade in a null psionics field and similar effects. Special: A fighter who meets the prerequisites may select this feat as one of his fighter bonus feats. 12

PRESTIGE CLASSES BLADE MANIFESTER Rare individuals are able to hone the totality of their psionic talent into a razor-sharp blade composed of pure will. These paragons of physical combat are often so focused on realizing the full power of their mind blade that they care little for developing traditional powers of the mind. While many see this as a purity, others eventually come to find it a limitation. A blade manifester is a soulknife who is adept at both physical combat with the blade of his mind s desire and at enhancing his already considerable skill by manifesting psionic powers. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Blade manifesters gain no new proficiencies. Power Points/Day: A blade manifester's ability to manifest powers is limited by the power points he has available. His base daily allotment of power points is given on the blade manifester class table below. In addition, he receives bonus power points per day if he has a high Wisdom score (see Table 2-1: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points in the Expanded Psionics Handbook). His race may also provide bonus power points per day, as may certain feats and items. Powers Known: Blade manifesters use the same power list as psychic warriors. A blade manifester begins play knowing one psychic warrior power of your choice. Each time he achieves a new level, he unlocks the knowledge of a new power. A blade 13

manifester can manifest any power that has a power point cost equal to or lower than his manifester level. The total number of powers a blade manifester can manifest in a day is limited only by his daily power points. The Difficulty Class for saving throws against blade manifester powers is 10 + the power's level + the blade manifester's Wisdom modifier. Maximum Power Level Known: A blade manifester begins play with the ability to learn 1st-level powers. As he attains higher levels, he may gain the ability to master more complex powers for example, a 4th-level blade manifester can learn powers of 2nd level or lower, a 7th-level blade manifester can learn powers of 3rd level or lower, and so on. To learn or manifest a power, a blade manifester must have a Wisdom score of at least 10 + the power's level. For example, a blade manifester with a Wisdom score of 13 can manifest powers of 3rd level or lower. Student of the Blade: At the levels shown on the class table, a blade manifester gains the class features of a soulknife found in the special column on the soulknife's class table as if he had also gained a level in soulknife. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a soulknife character would have gained (good Will saving throw, uninterrupted base attack bonus, etc). The blade manifester always gains only the next higher level of special class features. For instance, a 5th-level soulknife/2nd-level blade manifester gains the special class features of a 6th-level soulknife. If the character later leaves the blade manifester class and returns to the straight soulknife class, his soulknife special class features progression is unchanged and requires some bookwork to track. For instance, if a 5th-level soulknife/4th-level blade manifester decides to take his next level as a straight soulknife, he would have the special class features of an 8th-level soulknife, even though his straight soulknife class level would be 6th.
