Thank you to Marc Gaztambide for chairing the booth and to all those who helped cook and sell food. The dancers gave a great performance and the crowd loved them! Looking for Venue for Udaleku As stated in last month s newsletter, the Basque Club of Utah will be hosting Udaleku in the summer of 2016! The dates for the Basque Culture camp are July 10 through July 22. Participants range in age from 10 to 15 years old. The club is currently looking for a place to hold the camp. If anyone has any suggestions or has any connections to a suitable venue please contact Catherine Barajas at 801-244-2508 or at cbarajas5@msn.com. Upcoming Events September 23... Holiday Party December 22... First Day of Winter We would need about 5-6 classrooms or meeting rooms, a full kitchen that we can use to cook in and a gym/dance floor or outdoor recreation area. In addition to the venue, the club will also need members to host the children, the instructors and aides. We will need volunteers to work cooking, cleaning and assisting with the daily activities. Halloween Party on Friday, Oct 23! Mark your calendar now for the annual Basque Club of Utah Halloween Party. The party will be held on Friday, October 23 in Midvale. This is a pot-luck dinner so bring your favorite recipe that feeds 10 to the party. For more information on the party, look for a flyer in the mail. Club Member Featured in Interview Congratulations to Cedar Hoover, son of Carmen Larrinaga and Chad Hoover, who completed a summer internship at the University of Utah, researching a protein designed to kill ovarian cancer cells. Detective Mike Wilkinson, from the Cold Case Investigation Unit of the Summit County Sheriff s Office, will be speaking about a case he is currently investigating: the death/murder of a Basque sheepherder in Wyoming. He is hoping to possibly gain some information about this case from our members. Please make sure to attend. Don t have an account? The party will start at 6:00 pm with dinner served at 6:30 pm. The dancers will be performing and there will be a visit from Santa. NEWS Congratulations to: Stephanie(Archibeque) and Whit Taylor on the birth of their baby boy, Max George Taylor, on July18. Madalena Sangroniz, who spent some time in the hospital Condolences to: The Carricaburu, Horyna, Gaztambide and Maxfield families on the death of Julie Carricaburu Horyna, daughter of John and Pat Carricaburu. Welcome Back to: Amanda Maxfield, who went to Chiguiri Arriba, a remote village in Panama, for 6 weeks to volunteer her help to the villagers.
