OFFICIAL PLAYOFF BASEBALL Diamond has graciously entered into an agreement with the San Diego Section. Diamond D1 NFHS will be providing section playoff baseballs and will be the official baseball for the 2017 San Diego Section CIF Baseball Playoffs. 2. QUALIFYING All schools that field varsity teams will be placed into Divisions Open and I-V based upon a 5 year ranking. Division I through V will qualify using a 12 team playoff bracket. The Open Division will qualify using an 8 team playoff bracket. League Champions (not Co-Champions or Tri- Champions in these cases, leagues shall designate which team shall have automatic entry) receive automatic entry. If a league champion is not seeded into the playoffs, the champion will host a play-in game versus the lowest seeded team in that division. If more than one league champion is not seeded, the highest ranking league champion will play the lowest seeded team, the 2nd highest ranked league champion will play the 2nd lowest seeded team, etc. The play-in game will be held prior to the first round game. League champions will host play-in games. League champions will host 1st round games unless playing a higher seeded league champion or playing a team seeded #1-#4 or league champion has hosted a play-in game. This accommodation does not apply to playoffs that begin with the quarterfinal round. If a play- in game is needed it will be played on Monday May 22, 2017. The Commissioner s Office will seed all teams (without regard to League Champions) after input from the Baseball Pairings Committee and will determine all draws. The Pairings Committee Meeting will take place Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the San Diego Hall of Champions, CIFSDS Office. Playoff entry information must be submitted via CIFSDS Home by Friday, May 19, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. If your team is an automatic qualifier or if you anticipate being selected at-large, you must complete and submit in its entirety your team schedule, scores & results information via the CIFSDS Home site. Pairings will be posted on the CIFSDS web site and announced May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Coaches may pick up brackets and baseballs from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the San Diego Hall of Champions. Coaches do not need to attend and may view the brackets on our web site.

3. DATES, SITES, TIMES, AND HOME TEAMS Home site determination shall be made by the school with the higher seed. The home school s field may be the home site. Starting time for the first round contests shall be 3:30 p.m., unless home team has a lighted facility and both teams agree to an evening contest. Any deviation from the designated starting time must be approved in advance by the CIFSDS office. PLAYOFF GAME DAY BATTING HOME OR AWAY **There are no batting practice restrictions for playoffs. 5. OFFICIALS All game officials will be assigned by Arthur Gilbert (SDCBUA) at 619-426-0809, Tim Fillmore (Pacific Umpires) at 619-955-2258 or Mike Anchondo (IVOA-Baseball) at 760-353-9966 or anchondo@roadrunner.com. Coaches of teams entered in playoffs may submit a list of 6-10 preferred officials by mail, telephone, fax, or email to the assignment secretaries by 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 (see Preferred List of Playoff Officials attached to the coaches copy of this bulletin). All umpires for the play-in, first round, and second round must be paid by the home school. Admission will be charged for all Fourth Round, If Necessary, and Championship contests. 2017 BASEBALL UMPIRES PLAYOFF FEES Preliminary Rounds 2 @ $78.00 Championships 4 @ $87.00

6. TICKETS Home schools are expected to charge admission for the 4 th Round and If Necessary games. Admission prices are below. Each school may submit a list to the home site for ten (10) complimentary admissions. CIFSDS will host the finals. Ten (10) complimentary tickets for finals will be available to each participating school and may be obtained from the CIFSDS office. Schools may use a complimentary list for entry to fourth round, and fifth round/if necessary round games. Each school is allowed ten (10) complimentary admissions. The visiting school will fax a pass list to the home school, no later than noon on game day, or before noon on Friday for a Saturday game. CIFSDS is the host of the finals. Ten (10) complimentary tickets will be available to each participating schools and must be picked up at the CIFSDS office. NOTE: In the preliminary rounds the home school shall pay two umpires. Assigning of umpires will be as follows: The designated home team will use its designated association to work its game. 7. PASSES FOR FINALS No deviation from the following shall be allowed: Permitted -CIFSDS Courtesy Cards, CIFSDS Media Passes, CIF State Courtesy Card, CIF and CIFSDS Gold Life Passes (metal-engraved with recipient s name). Not Permitted -CIFSDS Scouting Passes, league passes, district passes, faculty passes, official s passes, college or university passes. 8. ADMISSION There are only two playoff ticket ranges: Adult Defined as anyone over 18 years old and Student/Senior Student defined as anyone age 5 through 18; Senior defined as anyone age 60 or over. Admission is free for Rounds One through Three. Schools are expected to charge admissions for Rounds Four and Five. GAME EXPENSELIMITS Allowable playoff expenses for 2015-16 can be found in the Policies and Procedures manual of the CIFSDS Green Book. The Green Book can be accessed under the Governance tab at: www.cifsds.org. The expense caps for baseball are as follows: Fourth and Fifth Round (If Necessary) Open/Div. I & II $300 Div. III & IV $250 Div. V $200 10. AWARDS Awards to be presented immediately following each Championship game: Divisional Championship team trophy - 20 individual Championship patches. Divisional Runner-up team trophy - 20 individual Runner-up silver patches. 11. PLAYOFF PARTICIPATION PATCHES Playoff participation patches can be purchased for $11.00 each. School personnel orders can be placed on the CIFSDSHOME website and accessing the Additional Forms link. Non-school personnel can place an

order on: www.cifsds.org/awards, patch orders. 12. RUNNER-UP PATCHES Championship/runner-up patches are special order items. School personnel orders can be placed on the CIFSDSHOME website and accessing the Additional Forms link. The cost is $11.00 each. Special order items may take up to (3) three weeks to arrive. Non-school personnel can place an order on: www.cifsds.org/awards, patch orders. 13. NON-FOOD CONCESSION The 2017 non-food concession has been awarded to The Kukulski Brothers. If you have any special requests, contact Dave Kukulski at 480-921-1975. Be sure to let your parents and athletes know that personalized souvenir items are available before, during, and after the contest for all participating teams. 14. SPIRIT SIGNS All signs, posters, banners, etc., by each competing school are to be utilized for the purpose of promoting its own team rather than downgrading its opponent. Therefore, no signs, banners, etc., will be permitted that refer to an opponent except in a positive manner. 15. NOISEMAKERS No noisemakers (cowbells, air horns, blocks, whistles, thunder sticks, drums without music, etc.) of any kind will be permitted at the site of any contest. Megaphones shall be used only by uniformed cheerleaders for the purpose of directing or controlling their own rooting section. 16. CHEERLEADERS A maximum of 25 uniformed varsity cheerleaders representing each of the two competing schools will be admitted free of charge to all CIFSDS playoff contests. 17. CLEAN UP Each team shall be responsible for the clean-up of its own bench area immediately following the contest. 18. OFFICIAL CIF-SAN DIEGO SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS Official CIF-San Diego Section Championship rings are now available from Jostens. Rings are available for participants, finalists, and champions.
