Contests, skills challenges, rules, etiquette and on course play are all part of the fun as your junior learns the FUN-damentals. Madison s instructional Corner FundaMentals to Better shots Are you struggling to hit solid shots? Sometimes all it takes to find your groove is a good swing thought. Try this: Keep your height throughout your swing. Feel tall by keeping your spine straight when you hit shots. This will help you maintain the width of your arms and prevent you from scooping the ball. Here s one more thing to think about: Where is your weight during your swing? The worst place is on the heels. You can t play good golf from there. Make good practice swings with your weight distributed more toward the balls of your feet. Feel yourself standing tall with your weight properly balanced which will produce more consistency. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any of our staff professionals for help. little links golf season Open to kids aged 6-13. Beginning June 30th and running until Aug 31st. 10 Course Update Now that mother-nature has been cooperating by providing us with much needed warmer temperatures we have been able to grow-in many of the bare spots on our greens that occurred in early spring. We have also been resodding many of the larger bare spots on some of the greens. At the end of April we applied curfew to the greens complexes to help reduce the concentration levels of nematodes in the soil. That process involved the slit injection of the curfew pesticide into the greens and resulted in the parallel lines that were visible after application. Nematodes are small insects that feed on grass roots and if concentration levels are too high, browning and bare spots from stress can result due to the reduced growing depth of the Bermuda grass roots. Our plan is to continue to roll the greens with every mowing and to fertilize them frequently to encourage grass growth and coverage. We will continue to top dress (with sand) the sodded areas of the greens in an effort to grow-in the seams of the sod and allow the ball to roll smoother. And, we will continue to fertilize the greens as needed to increase grass growth and coverage on our greens. We will continue to put every effort into improving the overall condition of the greens. Beginning in mid-june, we will be resurfacing the 2nd half of the putting green with mini-verde Bermuda grass, using a no-till sprigging process that we plan to utilize for the future resurfacing of greens on the golf course. We have been very encouraged by the miniverde grass that was implemented on the 1st half of the putting green last year handled the severe winter so well, especially compared to the older tiff-dwarf surface. The miniverde grass has shown much less signs of stress and has maintained a much thicker coverage to date. The resurfacing of the 2nd half of the putting green will consist of killing the existing tiff-dwarf grass with two applications of a nonselect herbicide (roughly 7 days apart), then we will aerify and verti-cut the green to break up the left over organic material, apply a fumigant to the soil for sterilization (which will result in the closing of the entire putting green for approximately 1 week), and then sprig the surface with mini-verde bermuda grass for grow-in. After sprigging occurs, the green will be heavily watered (approximately every hour for one week) and then watering regularly until the grow-in is complete. Once the sprigging is complete, the other half of the putting green will re-open for use, but the resurfaced portion of the green will remain closed until the growin is complete. We look forward to completing the resurfacing of the putting green this summer and reopening the entire green in late August. Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the golf course. Gordon Williams, Golf Course Superintendant

William Wert Bio - Hello my name is William Wert and I have been teaching tennis now for 4 years, both in Oxford, Mississippi and Summerville, South Carolina. I was the tennis instructor at 17 Coosaw Creek Country Club last summer and I am returning this summer from May 27th through August 15th. I played high school tennis under coach Heinz Maurer, and college club tennis at the University of Mississippi. I concentrate on teaching the fundamentals of tennis, as well as advanced skills, for any level or age, while keeping the emphasis on having fun and improving skills. Lesson rates and additional information can be found on my website www.w2tennis.com. swimming Pools Open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend, the Swimming Pool is staffed with lifeguards during published hours and is available for open swim (at your own risk) when lifeguards are not present. The course ponds are part of a larger low country wooded wetland area. Please respect this incredible asset and avoid contaminating it with any foreign materials or liquids. Fishing is allowed only from the bank and only in designated areas. These areas have been selected to ensure that people fishing are not in the normal flight of golf balls and that ponds can be approached without crossing the course or using the cart paths. They are located: BEHIND THE PLAYGROUND Approach from McChune Court HOLE 15 Approach from Arthur Hills Circle HOLE 16 Approach from Club Course Drive HOLE 17 Approach from Power Line Break Fish in course ponds are for catch and release and not for consumption a major disappointment to our chef! These guidelines are established to ensure a positive experience for all Members and guests who use the facilities. Enforcement is the responsibility of all members and staff of the Club. A polite reminder is usually sufficient, but should it become necessary to report any violation please call the Pro- Shop or the Club General Manager. We hope that you enjoy these excellent facilities your Club has to offer.
