GOLF NEWS Tyler Young, Head Golf Professional With January in the books it only means we are getting closer to warm weather. Bo and his staff have the course in excellent shape for the remaining months of chilly weather. Take advantage of what The Country Club of South Carolina offers by getting out hitting some range balls and get your game tuned up for all of our upcoming events. Thanks for all the participation that we got for the Superintendent s Revenge Tournament. We had a total of 24 teams competing for the best Net score in two man s captains choice. In the end Brad Avent and his partner Corey Richards won in a putt-off on the putting green. The two outlasted Rick Beasley and Johnny Mathes, while Jimmy Edwards and Jamie Sawyer brought home the third place prize. With our first tournament in the books for the year we have our first Money List for the End of the Year Shootout. Remember the Top 10 money winners throughout the year will have a 9-Hole playoff at the End of the Year which will give away over $1,000 cash. Upcoming Events We have rescheduled the Winter Member-Member for February the 7 th. We had a great group of guys sign up for the event that we had scheduled for January but with the weather we had to delay the event. Please call the Golf Shop to sign up!!! Expect Frost Delays With the weather much colder than normal we are experiencing frost delays. FROM THE GREEN Bo Cooper, Golf Course Superintendent Turf maintenance for the month of February starts picking up in anticipation of warmer weather. Actually January wasn t too bad, just a little wetter than we would like to see. We ll be applying our spring pre-emerge this month as well as light verticutting of fairways to remove the accumulated grass clippings that have piled up from the heavy rains and to also open the turf canopy allowing in more sunlight in hopes of stimulating some spring growth. Obviously this is dictated by weather and temperatures so keep your fingers crossed for a warm spring. As stated earlier, we have received our fair share of rain this year and as usual we have extremely wet conditions on fairways #1, #2, #11, and #14. These fairways get plain downright sloppy so please use caution while driving carts in these areas. Generally you guys, the members, are well aware of these conditions just from having played here so many times, and trust me it is greatly appreciated. I try to instruct guests and outside play of course conditions and please do so yourself because this is your course and one to be very proud of. Thanks for your support and for filling divots while you re playing, it makes a huge difference when the turf begins to wake up this growing season. Hope to see you on the course. DOUBLE EAGLE AWARD The Double Eagle recipient for this month is Ernest Gamble. Ernest has been with The Country Club of South Carolina since May of last year and presently lives in Turbeville, SC. Ernest previously worked at Pocalla Springs and Beech Creek golf courses in Sumter, SC. Ernest is The Country Club of South Carolina's irrigation technician and has done a tremendous job at repairing broken sprinklers and faulty wiring around the course. We would like to acknowledge his great work and dedication to ensuring that we have a great course. Great Job Ernest, we are very glad to have you as part of The Country Club of South Carolina family! 2403 Ernest Gamble
