T H E R U N N E R S G U I D E ZURICH MARATÓ BARCELONA ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RACE On 11th of March of 2018, it s taking place the 40 th edition of the Zurich Marató Barcelona, the hardest athletic race in Barcelona. Every year is getting more runners and loads of spectators along the streets cheering the runners up. The start and the arrival point are the same place, Av. Reina Maria Cristina. Just in front of the Palau de Montjuic, where thousands of runners are getting ready to face a big challenge: to finish the Zurich Marató Barcelona, a challenge not capable for everyone. The race starts at 8:30am and it has 6h limit to finish it. 5

T H E R U N N E R S G U I D E BIB NUMBER COLLECTION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MARATHON ALL REGARDIND THE BIB NUMBER COLLECTION Where is the bib number collection? The runner has to go to the EXPO SPORTS, placed in the pavilion 8 of Av. Reina Maria Cristina (Plaza España) What do I need to get my bib number? You will need the email confirmation with the bib number and a ID card or passport. Without them, wont be possible to get the bib number. Can I get my bib number the same day of the race? No. You only can pick up the bib number in the Expo Sports, on Friday or Saturday, during the time the Expo is open. Could anyone s get my bib number in case I can t go myself? Yes. The person who comes to get your things must bring your email confirmation with the bib number, a photocopy of an ID or passport. Can I sell or give my bib number if I don t want to go? No, the bib number is personal and no-transferable. I don t know what bib number is mine how could I know? If you haven t received any email from the organization telling you the bib number, don t worry. At the Expo Sport will be a place where you could find out. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CHIP How the chip works? Everyone will run with a chip. The Zurich Marató BCN gives a chip with the bib number. So we don t draw a distinction between the yellow chip and the whit chip. Can I run with my yellow besides the chip the organizations has given me with the bib number? Yes, but it s unnecessary because the one which is going to count is the white one, the one behind the bib number. I forgot my chip/bib number at home, what can I do? On Sunday, the race s day, wont be possible to solve this problem. So, prepare everything the night before and don t forget. 6

EVERYTHING REGARDING THE T-SHIRT Do I going to receive a t-shirt for my participation in the race? Participating in the Zurich Marató BCN, the organization will give you a t-shirt of the race. I want to change my size, can I? You have to wait until Saturday evening, before the expo closes. In case there are more t-shirts of the size you want to swap, the volunteers will do it. Do I get a finisher t-shirt? No. You will only receive one t-shirt for your participation. ALL ABOUT THE RUNNER S BAG Do I receive anything else besides the t-shirt? Yes, you will get a bag with different goodies from our sponsors. What s inside the runner s bag? Every year it changes but you will always find the Zurich Marató Barcelona s magazine and the welcome gift What is the welcome gift? The Welcome gift is a gift voucher for the different attractions of Montjuic, such as cable car, the entrance to the MNAC, the entrance to the Olympic Stadium, etc. OTHER DOUBTS ABOUT MY INSCRIPTION I want to change my start box to one earlier, can I? During the year, you can contact to the organization through the email (info@zurichmaratobarcelona.es) in order they can make the change. In case you haven t solve it before the weekend s race, you can always go to the Runner s Incidence on the EXPO SPORTS (pavilion 8, Fira de Barcelona), and they will fix it right in the moment. Can I register for the race at the Expo Sports? No, you can only register through the website www.zurichmaratobarcelona.es 7

T H E R U N N E R S G U I D E EXPO SPORTS OUTDOOR MORE ACTIVITIES DURING THE ZURICH MARATO BCN S WEEKEND It s a sports outdoor fair which is taking place the same weekend of the Zurich Marató BCN, with more than 150 sports brands placed in a building for 16.000m2 in the Fira de Barcelona (Plaza España). It brought 62.000 visitants during the weekend. What s the schedule? It s on Friday and Saturday, during the marathon s weekend, from 10h to 20h. The entrance is for free. How many brands are taking part in the Expo Sports? There are many brands related with running, trail, cycling and swimming. But also are coming races from all over the world and other kind of services (like food tracks). PASTA PARTY MORE ACTIVITIES DURING THE WEEKEND As it s already usual, the day before the Zurich Marató Barcelona, we celebrate the traditional pasta party. It s an activity which takes place in the Expo Sports. With will offer pasta meals to all the people that will participate in the marathon the next day. With this portion of pasta, we are providing the participants with hydrates of carbon necessary to face the big day of the Zurich Marató Barcelona, and it becomes an act of fraternity between all the participants.. Unfortunately, we don t have gluten free pasta. Day? Time? It is on Saturday, the day before the race, in the pavilion 8 (Fira de Barcelona, Plaza España) from 12h to 16h. How many people can go to the Pasta Party? Every runner will get a free entrance for him/her and his/hers partner. If its coming someone s, will have to pay (not huge amount). How to get into the Pasta Party? The runner will show the ticket that he had get in the PASTA PARTY s booth, settle in the bib collection area. Thing to be aware regarding the Pasta Party Every runner will have 2 tickets: one for the runner and other for the partner.. Minors 12 (12 included) had the right of a pasta plate for free. But they will show a special ticket than can collect in the Pasta Party s booth. If you are coming with kids older than 12, they will have to pay their meal. T H E R U N N E R S G U I D E BREAKFAST RUN MORE ACTIVITIES DURING THE WEEKEND Remember the last 4km of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games marathon running through the magical fountain of Montjuic on Saturday, before the race, with our traditional Breakfast Run. So, the Breakfast Run will start at 9:30h from Plaza Puig I Cadafalch, in front of the Magic fountain, and it will end up inside the Olympic Stadium. Once the race is over, all participants will get a nice breakfast with pastries, coffee, tea and fruit. How much is the Breakfast Run inscription? It s free, but you have to register first online. Where can I register to the Breakfast Run? You can register in the official website of the Barcelona marathon (www.zurichmaratobarcelona.es). You will pick up the bib number of this race in the Expo Sports on Friday (all day) in the booth located in the bib collection area. I haven t register for Breakfast Run, can I run it anyway? No, only the people register is allow to run the Breakfast Run. Is there any limit of participation? 2.000 bib numbers Why to run the Breakfast Run? It s a race that remembers the last 4 195 km of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games marathon running. It goes through emblematic areas of the Montjuic mountain. KIDS RACE by CAIXABANK MORE ACTIVITIES DURING THE WEEKEND S MARATHON It s a race for kids which take place on Saturday during the day in Av. Maria Cristina (Plaza España). The schedule is from 11:30h to 14:00h and from 16:00h to 18:30h. The inscription is online and if during the weekend s marathon there are some bibs left, you can also register on Friday in the booth of Caixa Bank, at the Expo Sports. The race and categories Nins (2012 2013) 400 meters, pre-benjamins (2010 2011) 600 meters, benjamins (2008 2009) 600 meters, alevins (2006 2007)1000 meters and infantils (2004 2005)100 meters Where can I collect the bib number for the Kids Race? In the booth of CaixaBank located in the Expo Sports (pavilion 8, Fira de Barcelona, next to Plaza España) on Friday during all day. It will be mandatory to come with the legal tutors who made the inscription to the kid. 9

T H E R U N N E R S G U I D E THE RACE IS ON! ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE MARATHON After all the previous months training, we finally get to the day. In order to face this big challenge, you will find below few answers to different questions you could have. Where do I have to wear the bib number? The bib number (with number and name) it has to be always visible on the chest during the entire race. Remember to fill the gaps in the other side of the bib with your personal data. It s very important to put the contact of a family member or a friend, in case we need to contact them. What should I do if I lost the bib number? The day of the race there won t be a place to solve this kind of incidences. So, it s better if you leave everything ready the night before the race in order to don t forget anything. Where could I meet with family/friedns after the race? It s important to set a place to meet after the race previously with your family/friends. There will be so many people and it could be difficult to find each other before. The best place we recommend is by the Magic Fountain in Montjuic. What s the exit distribution? It will be 5 start boxes in order to make it easy and confy for all the runners. The exits will be: 1 st start box: elite, less than 3h and between 3h and 3h15 2 nd start box: between 3h15 and 3h30 3 rd start box: between 3h30 and 3h45 4 th start box: 3h45 and 4h 5 th start box: more than 4h When the start boxes are open? They open at 7:45 am and closes at 08.25am. The start is at 8:30h I want to beat my personal best; is going to be any pacemaker to pace the time? The organization will provide to the runners 32 pacemakers which pace 7 different rhythms during the 42 195 km. You will find them in: 2h45, 3h, 3h15, 3h30, 3h45, 4h and 4h30. They will be located in their start box with a beachflag identifying the time they are running to. Can I run with headphones? For security reasons, it s not allowed running with headphones because it can be dangerous. When is expect to arrive the 1st runner of the Zurich Marató Barcelona? The time of the 1st runner is expecting at 10:40h. Is there any half marathon or 10k race the same day of the marathon? No. The half marathon is the previous month of the marathon, as the perfect training for the Zurich Marató Barcelona. 10

My family and friends want to follow the race, how can they do it? They can follow your track trhough the website (www.zurichmaratobarcelona.es): interactive track, map with the animation points or the route planner. Besides, with the APP of the marathon you can also track the race just by clicking the bib number of the person you want to follow. Also, TV3 (TV Channel) will make a live broadcast of the race. So, everyone can enjoy the race from different ways. Can I give my bib number to a friend? No. The inscription is personal and no transferable. Am I getting any certification for my participation in the marathon? All the finisher will get a diploma which they will download from the website during the week after the race. Do I get any medal when I finish the race? At the finish line, the volunteers will give you a medal of the race. Is there any service to engrave my medal? Sure, there is. Once you finish the race in the pavilion 8 of the Expo Sports it will be a booth giving this service to all the finisher (it has a cost). Where can I buy a memory from my participation in the marathon? There is an ASICS shop in the Expo Sports on Friday and Saturday where it sells t-shirts, jackets of the Zurich Marató Barcelona. The marathon is broadcasted on TV? TV3 will emit in live the Zurich Marató Barcelona. Furthermore, it will be also a special program in Teledeporte and Esport3 during the week after the race. Which one is the Official Hotel of the marathon? The official hotel of the Zurich Marató BCN is the Hotel Crowne Plaza, located in Avinguda Rius I Taulet. The hotel has special offers for the runners of the Barcelona s marathon. Does the Zurich Marató BCN have an official tour operator? Yes. The official tour operator is Aventurismo (Tel. 0034 902 363 462 info@aventurismo.com). Thanks to our agency you can get very interesting travelling packages (with inscription included). But, if you need only help to find a hotel with a very specific budget, you can also contact our tour operator to help you out with this. Is only Aventurismo the tour operator the Barcelona s marathon has? No. We work with the most important tour operator from all over the world. Do I have any insurance while I run? The organization will have liability insurance with the legislation in force. All participants, whether federated or not, will have an accident insurance too. Regarding the laws of personal data protection, who are using them? And why? All data are protected according to the Personal Data Protection Law. When the participant registers for the marathon, he/she are giving their consent to RPM Racing, S.L., to use their personal data with the sportive, promotional or commercial goal. Is there any security during the race? Yes, there is. It won t be vehicle pass in some parts of the race. But when the road has to accept the pass of the vehicles, it will be perfectly adapted to the runner s needs. It will be police officers along the race for a better security to everyone. Is there any shower service after the race? Yes, the showers will be at the Piscinas Picornell. The participant can get into the place with a shuttle bus. Has the marathon any profile in the social networks? Yes. Te marathon has a official profile in facebook, twitter and instagram. They are updating the social networks very often with information about the race, tips and trainings. Is there any promotion or voucher to move around the city with public transport? Barcelona and TMB work together to offer a sustainable mobility around the city during the marathon s weekend. HOLA BCN is the card which participants (or friends/family) can use to travel around Barcelona with public transport. Just by buying the HOLA BCN card through the Zurich Marató BCN, you will get a 15% discount. You can buy the card in our website when you are registering for the marathon (also in the Expo Sports). If you buy the card online, you have to pick up your card at the Expo Sports. The card will be activating when you will use it, and from then you will have 2 days to use it. After this days will stop working. How can I get to the start line? The start and the finish line is very centric in the city. So, you have many options to move until that point. You can take the metro, buses or short distances trains. It s better to use public transport because you will find closes roads. But if you want to go by car, anyway, the best area to park the car is in the Montjuic Mountain, around the Olympic Satadium. It starts at 6h30 and closes at 8h15. Then, the service will open again at 9h30 to 15h. Where is the cloakroom located? This year the cloakroom will be in the Italian pavilion, right in front of the Magic Fountain. ** The runner must go in ready to run wearing the bib number already on the chest and with the bag ready to be left. Once the participant left the things in, he/she will have to go outside the pavilion and wait for the rest of their friends/family outside. The track is very touristic and it tries to show the most emblematic spots of Barcelona. You can check the race in our website. The circuit is not going up to the Olympic Games; the finish line is in Avinguda Maria Cristina, next to Plaza España. How long does it takes? There is a limit of 6h to finish the race. After 6 hours, the participants are out of the classification and if they keep running, they must follow the traffic regulations and they go under their responsibility. Is going to be any chronometer along the race? It will be timekeeper from the start line every 5km. So, you will have chronometers pass in: km5, km 10, km 15, km 20, km 25, km 30, km 35, km 40 and the finish line. Is going to be any visual chronometer along the race? Only in the half marathon (21.097km) and in the km 30 you will find a screen with a chronometer like in the start and finish line. Where can I find time bracelets? You ll find them in the ASICS booth located in the Expo Sports (Av. Maria Cristina. Fira de Barcelona. Pavilion 8). Which categories are? There are 6 different categories: Less than 23: Between 18 and 22 years old Senior: Between 23 and 34 years old Veterans A: 35 and 44 years old Veterans B: 45 and 54 years old Veterans C: 55 and 64 years old Veterans D: More than 64 years old What should I do if I want to quit the race? Go to nearest refreshment station and wait for the sweeper car to pick you up. The bus is going to take you until the finish line. Remember to follow the traffic regulations and not disturb the proper operation of the race. The times of the car sweeper: It goes through the km 5 at 9h42, at 10h25 though the km 10, at 11h07 through the km 15, at 11h50 through the km 20, at 12h32 through the km 25, at 13h15 through the km 30, at 13h57 though the km 35 and finally, at 14h40 through the km 40. 5 tips when you arrive at the finish line: 1. Keep walking until the end of the finish line. Don t stop to stretch or wait a friend 2. Follow the instructions from the volunteers. They will explain you where to find water, powerade or fruits. 3. The Magic Fountain of Montjuic is the best place to meet with family and friends after the race. You can stretch nicely over there or go to the recovery area (located in the Expo Sport). 14

It will be 15 refreshment stations along the race plus the last one in the arrival area. You will find them: Km5, km7 5, km10, km12 5, km15, km17 5, km20, km22 5, km25, km 27 5, km30, km32 5, km35, km38, km40 and arrival. What kind of refreshment stations are they? In the refreshment stations the runner will find: water, energetic beverages, fruits, dried fruits, energetic gels, Vaseline and recovery to attend possible injuries. - Liquids (water and powerade): Every the refreshment station will have liquids. - Solid (fruits, dried fruit): km 15, km 20, km 25, km 30, km 32 5, km 35, km 38, km 40 - Energetic gels: km 30, km 32 5 and km 22 5 - Showers along the race: Km 32, 5 and km 40 (plus the shower service at the arrival). - Red Cross: it will be 9 points of Red Cross along the race. They will be located in the following km: km0, km5, km10, km15, km20, km25, km30, km35, km 40 and km42 - Physiotherapist: It will be 10 places with physiotherapist along the race in irder to attend the runner s needs. What s the water s brand? Aquabona, is the oficial brand of water for the Zurich Marató BCN. What s the energetic beverage s brand? Powerade, is the official energetic beverage of the Zurich Marató BCN Gels? It will be 2 points along the race where the runners could get a boost thanks to the energetic gels from GU Energy. They will be at the km 22 5, km 30 and km 35. What flavours of gels will be? Strawberry Bannana, Vanilla Bean, Mandarin Orange, Triberry, Chocolate Outrage (entre otros). All are gluten free. What kind of fruit do I have in the refreshment station? Flavors are: Bananas, oranges, Clementine and dried fruit. How many fruit is used in the Zurich Marató BCN? Vover 13.000 kg. Is there any recovery area after the race? Yes. It will be a recovery point with physiotherapist, massagist and podiatrist. The service is going from 11h to 14h30 During the race, is going to be any medical assistance or physiotherapist? Yes, every 5 km it will be a booth with a team of physiotherapist and medical assistant to attend the runner s needs. 15

ANIMATION AND VOLUNTEERS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW REGARDING THE ZURICH MARATO BARCELONA During the day of the Zurich Marató BCN, will be 41 animation points along the race. This animation groups will offer different kind of activities (music, food, sports ) in order to make feel people involved to this athletic journey. A total of 30 groups of volunteers will offer their help to the runners during the marathon. There are more than 1.800 volunteers that help to the development of the race and the rest of activities during the weekend. To be a volunteer, you have to do it through one of the associtation the organization work with every year. The interested should go to website and check the different groups of volunteers take part on the event (http://www.zurichmaratobarcelona.es/eng/voluntarios_i.html) and contact one the association. 16
