Dear Hosanna Family, HOSANNA DANCE STUDIO Teaching the Art of Dance with a Heart of Worship 1361 River Road Eugene, OR 97404 (541) 607-5798 www.hosannadance.com RECITAL AND YEAR END INFORMATION PACKET 1 April 1, 2012 It s recital time, and I am very excited for this year s production. The Hosanna Dance teachers have found inspiration for their dances from God s very own art work; His beautiful creation. The heavens and earth demonstrate the Father s lavish love for us. He has created for us layers of beauty that satisfy all of our senses and offer abundant sources of inspiration. Hosanna Dance students are getting to dance as lightning, stars, water, rainbows, lambs and more. I hope that we can come close to representing Gods creation praising Him and all of His good works. But with eager hope the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. Romans 8:20(b)-21 (NLT) As many of us know, recital time can be hectic. The Hosanna Dance staff has put together this packet that contains helpful information in an effort to give you the tools you need for a smooth recital season. Please take some time to read through it carefully with a highlighter in hand to mark information pertinent to you and your student. If you have any questions concerning the information, you may call the studio office and we would be happy to help. We have made big changes to the recital line up this year to allow our audiences the enjoyment of a larger variety ages and skill levels. The information in this letter will also be available on our website: www.hosannadance.com Even if you have danced with us for many years, we encourage you to closely read all the information in this packet and to highlight the specific portions that apply to your family. What s in this packet: Recital details, including: o Show times and which classes will perform in which show (not listed in show order) o How and when to purchase tickets (including voucher information) o Rehearsal details o Costume information o Photography/DVD information (no personal videography during shows!) A copy of your account statement as of April 1 st, which also projects your May tuition o Important reminders regarding financial policies (relates to costume distribution) Calendar of post-recital performances (required!) Information on 2012 summer classes

My Buddy and Me will perform in the 5:30 show both Saturday and Sunday. 2

When: Where: Rehearsal Details See schedule on previous page. Willamette High School s Powers Auditorium 1801 Echo Hollow Rd., Eugene, Oregon 97402 For directions see: http://www.bethel.k12.or.us/schools/whs/powers/index.htm Backstage Procedures For All Dancers With four recitals each performance day and overlapping transitions between the shows, it is vitally important that we keep backstage organized and running smoothly throughout the process. Please trust that there is a method to the madness and that you cooperation with these policies and procedures ensures a successful recital for everyone. See schedule on previous page for your specific dress rehearsal date. Please note that we do not have access to the auditorium until 4:00 pm. If you arrive before 4:15 pm, staff will still be preparing the backstage area for the students and will not be ready to receive your child. Thank you for your patience. Remember that NO VIDEO RECORDING of any type will be allowed during the performances on Saturday or Sunday. Dress rehearsal is a great time to plan to record your dancers(s), if you so desire. Creative Dance and Age 6-8 Classes: All students should arrive in full costume with hair and make-up ready for the dress rehearsal. We strongly recommend leggings (or similar) over tights to protect those new tights! Parents and students should go directly to the auditorium. We will begin the rehearsal with announcements and prayer. When the backstage area is prepared, you will be directed to the checkin table where you will receive a pick-up tag and your child will be escorted to the Green Room. Your child will be assigned a group leader to help care for him/her backstage. Rehearsal begins with the Finale number, followed by the Creative Dance classes and the 6-8 classes. Please plan to pick up your child immediately following their dance number. Bring your child s tag to the lobby and follow the signs to the pick-up area. Level I and above: All dancers should arrive with hair and make-up ready for the dress rehearsal. Dancers may put on costumes after they arrive. Parents and dancers should go directly to the auditorium. We will begin the rehearsal with announcements and prayer. When the backstage area is prepared, dancers will be directed to the Green Room. Students will not have direct supervision and will be responsible for themselves and their possessions. The studio will provide staff only to assist with getting students lined up and onto the stage. Please discuss appropriate backstage behavior with your child before arrival. Dancers are free to leave after their last number is released from the stage unless the instructor asks you to stay to practice again at the end of the rehearsal. In addition to your dress rehearsal time, some classes will be asked to stay for an evening technical rehearsal. This will be determined by the complexity of the staging, lights, etc., for the individual pieces. Instructors will let the individual classes know if the technical rehearsal applies to them. Be sure to check with your student. We also plan to post the schedule for the tech rehearsal in Studio A. Keep your eyes on the bulletin board! 3

Performance: See schedule on previous page for your specific performance and arrival times on Saturday and Sunday. Creative Dance and Age 6-8 Classes: Please bring your student to the same check-in table location used for dress rehearsal. You will again be given an ID tag for post-performance pick-up. Dancers should only bring items essential to performance as groups will need to change locations backstage and have very little down-time due to the shortened recital format. We will provide some simple activities when needed. After the Finale number, proceed to the same pick-up area used during rehearsal. Due to the need for quick transitions and limited space, please send one adult with the provided ID tag to pick-up your dancer(s) and then meet in the courtyard to visit and congratulate them on a wonderful performance. Level I and above: We ask that you arrive as close to your scheduled arrival time as possible. Early or late arrivals will cause a significant disruption to the very tight schedule we need to run with four shows each day. Enter and exit through the courtyard door; look for signs to guide you. After the Finale, please exit the backstage area as quickly as possible unless you are dancing in the next scheduled recital. The next recital will be preparing to start as you exit and so we need to keep the rooms and hallways clear and traffic at a minimum. Foundation Garments GENERAL RECITAL POLICIES For the sake of modesty, ALL girls who are Level I or above or have a costume change are required to wear a nude- colored leotard as a foundation garment. Tights and costumes can be worn directly over the nude leo. Girls (of all ages) should not wear underpants beneath their costume. (Their tights or nude leo are their undergarment.) Boys in Level I and above should wear an appropriate dance belt with all costumes. Other General Recital Policies NO costumes are allowed in the auditorium. NO VIDEO RECORDING OR PHOTOGRAPHY OF ANY TYPE DURING RECITALS. THIS INCLUDES USE OF CELL PHONE CAMERAS All dancers except My Buddy & Me should stay backstage during their entire show and should be picked up by the same PARENT or legal guardian- NO siblings) who dropped them off. Students are expected to keep their belongings contained. We suggest a small suitcase or laundry basket. All belongings should be labeled with the student s name. All tights should be NEW. All shoes should be in good condition. 4

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT Enclosed with this packet you will find a copy of your most recent statement. This statement includes the billing for April and the projected May tuition. If your account is on automatic payment and your account has been current all year, you will be able to pick up your costume on the first available pick up date. If you self-pay each month or if your account has consistently carried a balance due, you will not be able to pick up your costumes until your final payment has cleared our bank (checks are currently taking 5 days to clear the bank so if you pay by check you will need to do so by the 25 th of April in order to pick up costumes beginning May 2nd). Please refer to the chart in the costumes section of this document for further details. If there is any problem with your final payment of the year (automatic or self-pay) your student(s) will NOT be cleared to dance in the recital until the account balance is zero even if you have already picked up your costume(s). Tips on reading your statement Please note that any amount in brackets at the bottom of the column titled Balance is the total amount you owe to Hosanna Dance, including a projection of your May obligation. If you have made changes to your enrollment or your records are different from ours, please contact us immediately. Remember, the financial agreement you initialed with your registration states that all enrollment changes must be made in writing to the Business Office in order to ensure accurate billing. POST-RECITAL PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE Once again we are looking forward to blessing residents of our community with the wonderful dances the students and teachers have prepared throughout the year. The community has warmly received these performances, and we always hear many positive comments from the venues at which we perform. Post-recital performances are an important part of our dance year and all students are expected to participate. Your child will perform on the same day he or she takes class but at a different time and location. This will mean a change to your schedule from May 28-June 9. Please pay close attention to the attached chart. Any scheduling conflicts MUST be discussed with your child s teacher. Please help your dancers understand what an opportunity we have to be a blessing to people who would not otherwise have access to such an uplifting performance. REMEMBER: The week immediately following recital, all classes will meet at the normal time and location. In addition to providing the photo opportunity (explained elsewhere) this time will be an important preparation for the community performances. 8
