SCHS Varsity LAX Spring Break Trip 2017 April 3 - April 6 Purpose: In 2016 the SCHS Boys Lacrosse Varsity Team traveled to San Francisco to play three of the best teams in northern California. By all accounts that trip was a huge success and gave the boys, a number of whom are still on the team, a lacrosse experience they will never forget. The Coaches and Board have decided to once again travel outside of the area on a Spring Break trip. This year we will be traveling by charter bus to challenge our team with some of the best teams in Las Vegas, Nevada. We will be playing the #1 and #5 teams from last year in Nevada. This is a golden opportunity to go out and show what San Clemente High School and Orange County Lacrosse is all about. It will for sure be an AWESOME experience again! This trip will be chaperoned and coach monitored. Your son will be safe traveling on this trip without you if you are not able to attend. Las Vegas Games: We will play Coronado Red (2016 #1) in Atherton, CA on Tuesday afternoon, April 4 th. We will play Palo Verde (2016 #5) on Thursday afternoon, April 6 th. After the game on Thursday we will shower, eat, and return to SCHS. Down Day Wednesday: Experience has shown that playing back- to- back games is difficult. Therefore we have added a Down Day in between our games to recharge prior to our contest against Palo Verde on Thursday. We have some exciting and fun activities planned for that day. We will bus back to the hotel and have a couple hours of down time followed by a team dinner (again parents invited) at the Suncoast Casino.

Travel: Charter Bus: We will travel on a 56 passenger Charter Bus for the duration of the trip. The same bus will provide transportation during our trip. Outbound Trip: We will be travelling by charter bus as a team from San Clemente High School on April 3. In the spirt of team building and logistics coordination we are asking that ALL PLAYERS travel with the team on the way to Las Vegas, even if the parents are planning on driving or flying up to watch the games. The bus will leave at 8:30 AM sharp, please be sure to arrive with plenty of time to load the bus and get settled. Do not arrive later than 8:00 AM PLEASE. Traveling as a group takes some extra time and we want to arrive in Las Vegas at a reasonable time. A continental breakfast of donuts, juice and coffee will be served starting at 7:30 AM that morning and while on the bus. Lunch will be provided during the trip. Call Don Howren at (949) 228-8812 with any and all issues the morning of. Return Trip: Immediately following our Palo Verde game on Thursday the 6 th we will be boarding the bus for our trip home. We are working with Palo Verde High School to find available facilities for the boys to freshen up and change prior to departing. Parent s - if you have traveled up to see the games and are driving or flying home after the game you can take your player with you home if you prefer. But I must tell you the ride home is an integral part of the experience and something that s a ton of fun. However, please DO NOT LEAVE without clearing with the Coach Finn or Don Howren. We want to make sure we are not leaving anybody behind and would like to leave as early as possible. Looking for little Johnny and not knowing he has left with you will be a burden on all. Traveling at night means we will arrive sometime around midnight or in the early morning of Friday the 7 th. Expect that the bus will arrive back at San Clemente High School between midnight and 1:30 AM. Sorry! What To Wear: Dress comfortably for the bus trip up and back. Also please bring an outfit suitable for dinner. Optionally you can wear your Triton Lacrosse pullover jackets, Letterman Jackets or other SCHS outerwear over the shooter shirts. Please everybody pack your issued Triton Lacrosse pullover jackets if not wearing them that morning. Also please pack your running shoes, team shooter shirts and sweats for our team activity on Wednesday. Lodging: We will be staying at the Suncoast Casino. The address is 9090 Alta Drive Las Vegas, NV 89145. The phone number is 702-636- 7111. All Player rooms have been booked; you do not need to do anything for your player. It is taken care of already and included in the total fee. But if you want to come and cheer the team you can reserve yourself. Room rates are very reasonable. Weather: Surprise! Las Vegas in April should be pleasant during the day (70 s) but can be cooler in the evenings (50-60 s). Please plan accordingly with sweats, beanies, jackets whatever is going to make you comfortable. Also please ensure that you are very well hydrated. The travel, warm weather and games can get to you if you do not take care of yourselves and stay hydrated. Start hydrating early. Seriously!

Packing List: Please double check your son to make sure that he has everything! Obviously if he forgets something getting this to him will be a bit of a challenge. We know they are all very responsible young men, but we all need a second set of eyes once in a while. So plug your nose and open the bag! Below is a sample packing list. Cleats Back up Stick & Head Triton pull- over jacket Both Red & White Game Uniforms Practice Shooter Shirts and Shorts Swimsuit (indoor pool at hotel) Practice Pinney 3 Pair White Game Socks Jammies All Primary Equipment 3 Pair Practice Socks Underwear Game Helmets Gear Bag Toiletries Mouthpieces Custom Shooter Shirts Sweats Running Shoes Reasonable street close Study Hall: Every morning we will be conducting 60 minutes of mandatory study hall for the players. Please have them bring study materials or a good book to occupy that time. This was a requirement of approval for the team travel and simply the right thing to do anyway for our student athletes. This will be monitored by the coaching staff. Food: As part of your cost, we are including all meals for the boys. Players will have breakfast and lunch vouchers at the Suncoast Casino and it s mandatory for all boys to participate as no other meal options are planned for the team. Use it or lose it. Wednesday night we will be having a team dinner with games included but details are not finalized. Each night after the games we will have either catered food at the hotel to eat in a casual manner or we will have shared a meal with the competition after the game. If your player is a big or fancy eater we might suggest having him bring a couple extra bucks for food as there are several restaurant options inside the Casino, but that is a family decision. Parent & Family Travel: We love to have our families join us on the trip. But please come as spectators and fans to support the boys. We ask that you respect the experience we are trying to give the team and allow your son to travel and stay with his teammates if possible. If you have plans as a family in Las Vegas before or after the trip, please contact Don Howren immediately to help him with the logistics. Group travel is complicated to coordinate; and with kids going in many different directions make it even more so. Contact Information: We are staying at the Suncoast Casino 9090 Alta Drive Las Vegas, NV 89145. Front desk number is: 702-636- 7111. Or click here http://www.suncoastcasino.com/directions.

Contact Don Howren at (949) 228-8812 and dhowren@cox.net for anything. Acting as chaperones on the trip will Don Howren, Hans Lemus, Mark Lush and Mark Amico. Coach Finnerty and his staff will conduct bed checks and lights out patrol each night. Rooming: There will be 2 to a room, each with their own double bed. Players are to select their own roommates and are responsible for getting that information to Don Howren two weeks prior to the trip. Player conduct is critically important as we are representing San Clemente High School. Players are expected to be on their best conduct and are responsible for protecting the hotel property as if it were their own! Any player who violates our player conduct will be subject to immediate dismissal from the trip and return back home at their expense. Fees: The Board has worked diligently to keep the cost of this trip to a minimum while still producing a safe and enjoyable experience. The fee charged is all inclusive. All travel, lodging, food, Coaches travel/lodging and custom team shooter shirt are part of the fee. The cost of this trip is in addition to the expected donation for the regular season for all players. We feel it is not fair to burden the entire program for the cost of the Varsity only trip. Consistent with our interpretation of the ACLU public school activities rulings, it is appropriate to charge this as a fee for all participants. Attendance on the trip is not mandatory, but we sincerely hope that all Varsity players participate and attend. We would hate for any player to miss out on this exceptional experience. The exact cost of the trip is still being calculated based on sponsorships participation. We should have this amount very soon. These fees are due to the program no later than March 20 th. We need to know ASAP if you intend to have your son attend. We are asking that Liability Waivers and intent to participate be delivered by no later than March 15th. We need this information to properly plan the trip. Again we hope that all players participate and will attend. Questions: If you have any questions please contact Don Howren at dhowren@cox.net or (949) 228-8812. Zero Tolerance: It should go without saying and we certainly do not expect it from this group, but on this trip we will be enforcing a zero tolerance policy. Any player caught with alcohol or drugs will be held out of competition and reported to the school for further disciplinary action.
