June 2009 A NOTE FROM PHIL DAVIS, PERMIAN BASIN CHAPTER PRESIDENT After many months of planning, June has arrived. I thank you for having confidence in me to elect me to serve as President during the next year. Nancy Day has served the Chapter well with her fresh approach. One of the new events started by Nancy was the Free CPE seminar for members. The Fraud Conference on May 1, 2009 was a great success, with 70 members taking advantage of this seminar. We also have added an additional 16 hours of CPE with a Subchapter S Corporation course on August 3 and 4. I encourage you to put this on your calendar and attend this CPE seminar. Another way we are trying to give more for our Chapter is the golf tournament on June 19 at Hogan Park in Midland. Garion Brunson and Jack Bain are working diligently organizing this event. We moved the date of the tournament back to June, past the tax deadlines of April and May to try to increase attendance. All net proceeds from the tournament will go to accounting scholarships for UTPB, Odessa College, Midland College, and Howard College. There is also another opportunity for the golf tournament -- our Chapter at one time had great networking with the bankers and lawyers in the area. I encourage each of you to invite the bankers and lawyers you know in your communities, as well as your clients, to participate in the golf tournament for this good cause. With a shotgun start, hopefully we can fill all 72 golfer slots to maximize the amount we give to scholarships this year. If you are not a golfer (like me who gave up many decades ago), sponsorships are $200. By the time you receive this newsletter, we will have held a Board Training Session on June 4. With assistance from TSCPA Chairman Kym Anderson and TSCPA staff Rhonda Ledbetter and Stephanie King, we will be educating our Board members on the benefits TSCPA has to offer GOALS FOR PERMIAN BASIN CHAPTER JUNE 1, 2009 - MAY 31, 2010 1. Build a foundation for the future leadership for the Chapter 2. Educate members on what TSCPA offers and provide more services to the local Chapter members 3. Recruit new members to TSCPA and discussing the programs our Chapter will provide next year. The training for our Board will help each of them serve our members better in the months to come. I look forward to seeing you at the golf tournament on June 19. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS - Jesus Arenivas, CPA - Judd R. Campbell, CPA - John F.
