Pac-10 Women's Basketball Release (January 8, 2001) Page 3 PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK ARIZONA guard Reshea Bristol has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 2-8. Bristol, from Omaha, Neb., averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 steals, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in leading the Wildcats to a road sweep of the Bay Area schools last weekend. She shot 90.9 percent (10-11) from the line, 66.7 percent (4-6) from three-point range and 46.9 percent (15-32) from the floor. Against California, Bristol hit 10-of-19 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the line en route to a game- and career-high 30 points. She scored 22 of Arizona's 47 second-half points and contributed six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Against No. 21 Stanford, Bristol notched 14 points, two rebounds, eight assists and five steals. She assisted six of the final seven Arizona baskets, and hit a three-pointer to give UA a fivepoint lead with just four minutes left. In the waning seconds, she had a crucial steal and connected on two free throws to ice the game. Arizona has won five straight and owns a 2-0 record (12-2 overall) heading into the second week of Pac-10 play. The Player of the Week honor is the third of Bristol's career and the 22nd all-time selection for Arizona. The Cats swept their Pac-10 opening weekend for the first time since the 1997-98 season last week. The victory over the Cardinal marked the first time that the Cats have won back-to-back games in Maples Pavilion. Arizona paces the Pac- 10 in scoring (81.9 ppg) and scoring margin (+16.4 ppg). Senior guard Reshea Bristol leads the league with a 6.54 assists average, while junior center LaKeisha Taylor leads the Conference in field goal percentage (.613). Four Wildcats rank among the Pac-10's top 20 rebounders. ARIZONA STATE Coming off their first win in Berkeley since the 1991-92 season, the Sun Devils are still looking to string together consecutive wins for the first time since opening the season at 4-0. ASU leads the league in turnover margin (+4.93), is second in scoring defense (57.4 ppg) and ranks third in rebounding defense (34.3 rpg) and assist-turnover ratio (0.83). Junior guard Amanda Levens is sixth in Pac-10 scoring (13.9), while junior center Melody Johnson is 11th in rebounding (6.4 rpg). CALIFORNIA The Golden Bears look to post their first Pac-10 win of the season as they travel to the Oregon schools this week. Rated as having the 10th-toughest schedule in the nation in the latest RPI report, Cal has dropped four of its last five contests. Junior center Ami Forney leads the Conference in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and offensive rebounds (3.45 avg.), while senior forward Lauren Ashbaugh is seventh in rebounding (6.5 rpg). OREGON Oregon is ranked 20th in this week's AP Top 25. The Ducks are 81-17 (.827) at home since the start of the Jody Runge era in 1993. Senior forward Brianne Meharry came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the Ducks' win over Oregon State last week. It was the second game back for Meharry, who missed the Dec. 22 and Dec. 30 games due to a severely sprained ankle. Oregon leads the Pac-10 in field goal percentage (.483) and rebounding defense (32.7 rpg). Junior guard Jamie Craighead paces the Conference in three-point percentage (.438) and three-pointers per game (2.55 avg.). OREGON STATE The Beavers, in the midst of the three-game home stand to start Pac-10 play, host the Bay Area schools this week. OSU's fourpoint loss to Oregon Jan. 5 marked the closest Cival War game in exactly five years, since the Beavers' win over the Ducks Jan. 5, 1996. Junior guard Felicia Ragland scored 24 points and grabbed a season-high 11 boards against UO for her third double-double this season. OSU paces the league in scoring defense (56.7 ppg) and three-point percentage defense (.268). Ragland leads the Pac-10 in steals (3.27 spg).

In the win over ASU, Stanford matched its sixth-best single-game threepoint percentage (.667/10-15) behind a career-high five treys from junior guard Lindsey Yamasaki. Stanford was blanked from the free throw line for the first time ever in the loss to Arizona. Freshman guard Nicole Powell is among the Pac-10 leaders in seven of 12 statistical categories. The Cardinal rank second in Pac-10 scoring (76.8 ppg) and lead the league in free throw percentage (.712), three-point percentage (.380), blocked shots (5.58 bpg), assist-turnover ratio (0.96) and three-point field goals (6.33 avg.). UCLA The Bruins host crosstown rival USC on Jan. 13, as both squads search for their first Pac-10 win. Junior guard Michelle Greco maintains her hold on the Pac-10 scoring lead, averaging 18.8 points per contest. Greco also leads the league in free throw percentage (.912). The Bruins pace the Pac-10 in steals (11.1 38 spg), led by Greco (2.17 spg) and freshman guard Gennifer Arranaga (1.92 spg). USC USC's Pac-10 season-opening loss to WSU was its first since the 1996-97 season, when it fell to Washington in Seattle, also on a last-second shot. Freshman forward Ebony Hoffman paced the Trojans in their two road losses, averaging 17.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. A pair of freshmen Hoffman and guard Aisha Hollans have led the team in scoring and rebounding in each of the last four games. USC ranks second in the Pac-10 in blocked shots (4.58 bpg) and steals (10.67 spg). Senior center Denise Woods paces the league in blocked shots (1.75 bpg). WASHINGTON One of four undefeated teams in Pac-10 play, Washington won the first triple-overtime game in school history Jan. 7 vs. USC. The contest marked the second straight game in which the Huskies and Trojans have gone into overtime. Washington posted 57 rebounds against USC, while freshman guard Giuliana Mendiola notched her Pac-10-leading fourth double-double of the season (12 pts/10 reb). Washington paces the Conference in rebounding (46.4 rpg), rebounding margin (+8.2 rpg) and assists (16.67 apg). Three Huskies rank among the league's top 20 rebounders. WASHINGTON STATE The Cougars swept the LA schools for the first time in six years and are off to a 2-0 Pac-10 start for the first time since 1991-92. With 16 games left on the Conference slate, WSU has already surpassed last year's Pac-10 win total (1). Junior center Brittney Hawks averaged 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two wins last week. WSU leads the Pac-10 in field goal percentage defense (.367) and assists (16.67) and is second in three-point percentage (.353) and three-point percentage defense (.281).
