Pac-10 Women's Basketball Release (January 22, 2001) Page 3 PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK ARIZONA STATE junior guard Amanda Levens has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 15-21. Levens, from Belvidere, Ill., averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in leading Arizona State to its first ever road sweep over the Los Angeles schools and its first Pac-10 road sweep since 1992-93. On the week, Levens shot 40.0 percent from three-point range (4-of-10) and was a perfect 12-for- 12 from the free throw line. Against USC, Levens notched a team-high 15 points and recorded a game-high four assists. She matched that effort with 15 points at UCLA, adding a career-high seven rebounds in a career-best 34 minutes of play. She has hit 10 of her last 20 attempts from threepoint land and already ranks 10th on ASU s single-season chart with 30 treys this year. The Player of the Week honor is the first of Levens' career and the 19th all-time selection for Arizona State. ALSO NOMINATED: Courtney Johnson, CAL; Brianne Meharry, ORE; Nicole Funn, OSU; Nicole Powell, STAN; Michelle Greco, UCLA; Ebony Hoffman, USC; Megan Franza, WASH; Victoria Harrod, WSU. 2000-01 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: N. 27 Melody Johnson, ASU D. 4 Nicole Funn, OSU D. 11 Elizabeth Pickney, ARIZ D. 18 Susan King, STAN J. 2 Reshea Bristol, ARIZ J. 8 Reshea Bristol, ARIZ J. 15 Jamie Craighead, ORE J. 22 Amanda Levens, ASU ARIZONA Arizona is 25th in this week's coaches' poll. Head Coach Joan Bonvicini seeks career win No. 499 Saturday at Arizona State. She owns a 498-180 (.735) career record. Senior guard Reshea Bristol joined UA's Thousand-Point Club at USC Jan. 18. She now ranks eighth on Arizona's all-time scoring list with 1,010 points. The Wildcats lead the league in scoring (80.8 ppg), scoring margin (+14.9 ppg), free throw pct. (.705), assists (16.56 apg) and assist-turnover ratio (0.86). ARIZONA STATE ASU is looking to snap a 14-game losing streak to Arizona this weekend in Tempe. The Sun Devils' wins at UCLA and USC marked the program's first Pac-10 road sweep since 1992-93, as well as its first three-game Conference winning streak since that season. ASU's five road victories are the most for the team since the 1992-93 squad finished the season 7-5 on the road. The team has never before won games at California, USC and UCLA in a single season. ASU is tied for the Conference lead in rebounding defense (34.0 rpg) and leads in turnover margin (+4.61). Junior center Melody Johnson is ranked seventh in Pac-10 scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). CALIFORNIA The Golden Bears' 63-56 loss to Stanford Jan. 20 was the narrowest margin of defeat in the rivalry in nearly nine years since a two-point Cardinal victory on Mar. 13, 1992. Senior guard Courtney Johnson paced the Bears with 17 points and a gamehigh six steals. Johnson needs two more thefts to move into the No. 3 career spot in California steals. Junior center Ami Forney is second in Pac-10 rebounding (7.4) and offensive boards (3.21). OREGON The Ducks are 20th in this week's coaches' poll. Oregon suffered the loss of two starters in the Jan. 18 win at Washington junior forward and leading scorer Angelina Wolvert (knee sprain) and senior guard/forward Lindsey Dion (ankle sprain). Dion is listed as probable for this weekend's contests while Wolvert is doubtful. The loss at WSU snapped Oregon's 30-game winning streak against it's Northwest Pac-10 foes: Washington, Washington State and Oregon State. Oregon paces the Pac-10 in field goal pct. (.479) and field goal pct. defense (.386) and is tied for the lead in rebounding defense (34.0 rpg). OREGON STATE Sophomore guard Nicole Funn contributed 29 points in two games as OSU split at Washington and Washington State last week. Oregon State leads the Conference in scoring defense (58.9 ppg) and three-point pct. defense (.281). Junior guard Felicia Ragland has posted three double-doubles over the last four games. She ranks second in Pac-10 scoring (17.5), second in steals (3.20), second in three-point pct. (.459), second in three-point FGs (1.87 avg.), fourth in defensive rebounds (4.27) and is eighth in rebounding (6.5).

VanDerveer's career Pac-10 record stands at 199-40 in 13-plus seasons. The Cardinal snapped a seven-game road losing streak with the Jan. 20 win at California. The victory was also the 15th straight over the Golden Bears. Freshman Nicole Powell recorded her fourth double-double of the season (19 pts/12 reb) and is averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds in Conference play. The Cardinal is 30-0 all-time against Washington State heading into Saturday's meeting at Maples Pavilion. UCLA Junior guard Michelle Greco totaled 51 points, seven rebounds and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in a home split against the Arizona schools last week. Greco led the Bruins to a 59-56 overtime victory over then-no. 19 Arizona Jan. 20, scoring a game-high 29 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and one steal. She added 22 points in the loss to ASU, collecting three rebounds and two assists. The Pac-10's leading scorer upped her season average to 19.9 points per game and is averaging 23.3 points in Conference games. USC USC picked up its second straight win over a ranked Wildcats squad last week, coupled with a defeat of then-no. 15 Arizona on Feb. 17, 2000. Freshman Jessica Cheeks recorded a breakout performance against UA with 18 points and four steals. Sophomore Tennille Grant played a career-high 31 minutes against Arizona and tied a career mark with 10 points in the game. WASHINGTON One of three teams tied at 4-2 in Pac-10 play, Washington has already equaled its Conference win total from 1999-2000. The Huskies travel to the Bay Area schools this weekend and are 22-6 all-time against California and 9-19 against Stanford. Against OSU Jan. 20, senior guard Megan Franza helped rally the Huskies from a 10-point deficit in the second half, hitting the game-winning shot with 4.5 seconds left. Franza notched a season-high 28 points, the third-highest scoring mark of her career. WASHINGTON STATE The Cougars' upset victory over No. 18 Oregon was their first win over a ranked opponent since Jan. 8, 1998, against then-no. 10 Arizona. In the win over the Ducks, senior forward Victoria Harrod scored 10 points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds. With her three treys against Oregon, senior Joanna Smith increased her career three-point total to 133, tying her with Heather Norman (1989-92) for first on the WSU all-time list. Smith's third trey came with 16 seconds remaining and put the Cougars ahead 65-64. She currently ranks third in WSU career three-point pct. (.390).
