Version 1.0 SUOMI M-31 SA (Semi Automatic) One Great Company Another Superb Product Finland was at war with the Soviet Union from November 30, 1939 to March 13, 1940 (The Winter War) and then again from June 25, 1941 to September 4, 1944 (The Continuation War). A very, very brief history- The Winter War was mainly an outcome of the major political events taking place in Europe during the 1930s. Germany was loaded for bear and Hitler made it clear that Russia was in for an attitude adjustment. Until 1917 Finland and the Baltic States had been part of Russia for several generations and regardless of what the people thought, when Mother Russia said jump the people of Finland were expected to say how high?. Being naturally strong willed and physically imposing the warriors of Finland prepared for a fight. A fight on their soil, in their homes. War breaks out- The first time you pick it up you will feel like you just pulled it off the armorer s rack in 1939. S.C. Huntsville, Alabama FIREARMS ARE DANGEROUS WEAPONS READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS IN THIS MANUAL THOROUGHLY AND CAREFULLY BEFORE USING. Inside this Information Manual Safety and Warnings 1-3 Be sure to read these instructions carefully! Or I ll tell everyone you cry at chick flicks and you ll have to say Hello to my little Finn! Faced with the Finnish intractability the Soviet Union finally decided to take by force what it could not get through negotiations. On November 30 1939 Russian troops entered Finland. Disassembly / Reassembly Instructions 3-9 The Suomi M31 is about to become the great equalizer... Special Thanks to Marshall Kregel of the KevOs4 website for use of WWII historical pictures and information.

Intelligently handled it is safe. An accident is always the result of basic safety rules neglect. Accident prevention is user responsibility. Never point a firearm at anything you don t want to shoot. Before handling a firearm be sure to use correct and undamaged ammunition. Be sure your firearm is clean before loading inspect the barrel to ensure it is perfectly clean and free of debris and any obstructions. Shooting with an obstruction in the barrel such as dirt, mud, grease, lodged bullet or jacket residues, etc, can cause barrel bulging and/or rupture. Never assume that the chamber is empty, visually inspect it every time you handle the gun. Avoid alcoholic beverages or drugs before and during shooting. Always wear ANSI approved Safety Glasses or Goggles. Store firearms and ammunition separately, beyond the reach of children. Be sure cartridge chamber is empty.

P a g e 4 S U O M I M 3 1 S A D i s a s s e m b l y / R e a s s e m b l y I n s t r u c t i o n s Step 1 The SUOMI M31 has a two position safety Forward (toward the barrel) is the FIRE position Rearward (toward the trigger) is the SAFE position. The firearm is not designed to allow cocking of the gun while in the safe position. (See Picture 1A below) Attempting to cock the gun with the safety in the safe position will cause the gun to jam. If there is a round chambered un-jamming will cause the hammer to fall forward possibly firing the chambered round. Always point the firearm in a safe direction before attempting to fix the problem. To un-jam the gun, unscrew the trigger assembly and lift it slightly out of its housing. The bolt can then be positioned forward. Safety Selector in SAFE Position 1A Safety Selector in FIRE Positon Step 2 Remove any magazine from the firearm by pushing forward (towards the barrel) on the magazine release lever and pulling down on your magazine. (see photo 2A) Pull the bolt to the rear and visually inspect the chamber area for ammunition. If ammunition is present, take the firearm to a safe location and remove the ammunition from the firearm before proceeding. 2A Step 3 2A 2A 2B 3A While removing the end cap keep it pointed in a safe direction to prevent injury to you or others if the cap is inadvertently released. Once the firearm is safely unloaded and all ammunition has been removed from the workspace the next step in the process is to remove the upper receiver end cap. To do this place one hand on the cocking handle and the thumb of the same hand on the face of the cap. Using your thumb as leverage pull back on the cocking handle approximately 1.5 inches. This will allow the extruded portion of the handle that locks the end cap in place to clear the channel in the end cap. Once clear, while holding the cocking handle to the rear, unscrew the end cap. (see photo 3A) Alternate View

S U O M I M 3 1 S A D i s a s s e m b l y / R e a s s e m b l y I n s t r u c t i o n s P a g e 5 Step 4 4A While still holding pressure on the end cap, turn it counter-clockwise approximately 7-8 turns. Once the cap is free of the upper receiver pull out the cap and springs. Set aside. (see photos 4A/B/C) 4C Keep pressure on end cap 4B TIPS Step 5 5A Carefully tilt the barrel up until the bolt group slides into your hand. The group is Placing two pieces (see photo 5A/B) your smaller parts in a container will prevent a few headaches and choice words later. Keep several dry rags around for cleaning, gripping and protection from dents and scratches. 5B Step 6 Remove the barrel shroud and barrel. Lay the firearm on a stable surface with the right side facing up. Rotate the shroud locking lever counterclockwise just enough so the shroud can be rotated clockwise. While rotating the shroud pull it away from the upper receiver. Once the keys line up the shroud and barrel will separate from the upper receiver. Separate the barrel and shroud. P a g e 6 S U O M I M 3 1 S A D i s a s s e m b l y / R e a s s e m b l y I n s t r u c t i o n s Step 7 Removing the trigger housing. If you find that you need to remove the trigger housing caution should be taken to prevent losing parts. Ensure the firearm is unloaded and pull the trigger to the striker to disengage. Remove the screw behind the trigger guard 7A and lift out the trigger housing. This manual will not instruct you on how to disassemble the trigger housing after removal- but we will provide the detailed pictures below as a reference to what a complete housing should look like. (see photos 7A/B/C/D) 7A 7B 7A TIPS 7D 7C Remember! If you are having to force a piece or part back together it s time to step back and take a breather. Then tackle the project again. Some of the modern super bore cleaners and blasters will ruin a finish and also do a number on your jewelry or eyeglasses. The Suomi M31 SA is a striker fired firearm. WARNING! Removing the trigger group while the firearm is loaded will cause the striker to engage and possibly cause death or injury. To reassemble your Suomi M31SA just reverse the order. From Step 7 down to Step 1. See next page.

S U O M I M 3 1 S A D i s a s s e m b l y / R e a s s e m b l y I n s t r u c t i o n s P a g e 7 Reassembly Step 1 Replace the trigger group and secure with screw Reassembly Step 2 Insert barrel into receiver, then slip barrel shroud onto locking lugs and rotate counter clockwise to lock into place.. Slide the shroud lock into place. Reassembly Step 3 Reassemble the two pieces of the bolt group as pictured below. Reassemble the receiver end cap and springs as depicted in photos. Then insert into the receiver. Pull back the charging handle, align the slot in the cap with the extruded portion of the charging handle. Keeping the end cap pointed safety away from your body, push in with your thumb, align the cap with the receiver threads and screw the cap down. Once you get to the end of the threads you will need to back off until the slot aligns with the end cap slot. Release the charging handle. Place the safety in the SAFE (rearward) position and check operability. Then place the selector in the FIRE (forward towards barrel) position. Pull the trigger to dry fire, You should hear an audible click. You have now reassembled your Suomi M31SA. TIPS If you get stuck at a point just jump on the internet and YouTube TNW to see more data. Surplus SMG 9mm ammunition works extremely well in this firearm. Always wear hearing protection. Bolt Group Safety Selector in SAFE Position Safety Selector in FIRE Positon

With a few hints and tips you should be able to enjoy a day at the range without the frustration of picking up spilled ammunition. Let s get started- Helpful Hints Regarding Your Suomi M31SA Drum Magazine 8A 8A Depress button located on back side of Suomi M31SA drum and hold. 8B While depressing the latch knob from the back of the drum- slide lock down and away. 8B Visit our website at TNWFIREARMS.com 8C Remove Cover Plate 8C 8D Inspect Spring Tension Follower to insure proper installation. (See Photo) 8D 8E Wind the spring counter-clockwise until it reaches the end. Use caution! The spring is strong and if it disengages while your body parts are in the mechanism you may suffer injury. You should notice seven to eight audible clicks as it passes certain stages. 8E

S U O M I M 3 1 S A D i s a s s e m b l y / R e a s s e m b l y I n s t r u c t i o n s P a g e 9 8F 8F Break out your best 9mm ammunition. 8G One of the best ways to load the drum is to tilt the bottom portion towards you and load two rows at a time before slowly rotating the drum to add the additional ammunition. 8G 8H Once you ve got the ammunition situated, replace the cover being careful not to allow any ammunition to fall over in the drum. 8H1 9H2 8I After replacing the front cover hold it securely and depress the magazine latch knob on the back of the magazine and HOLD IT! You should hear the spring engage and feel a slight movement in the drum. Keeping the cover held down and the button fully engaged on the back of the drum, slide the lock upwards and secure the magazine latch knob. 8I The staff and engineers at TNW Firearms wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your purchase and reassure you that we are committed to customer service and presenting a quality product to our customers.
