Third Grade Animal Adaptation Reports By: Ms. Ainsworth s class

Great White Shark The great white shark has some adaptations. One is it could blend in the bottom of the ocean because its back helps it blend under water to survive from its predators this is camouflage. The next one is it has about 3,000 teeth to rip its prey apart. Great white sharks also have fins to help it swim fast through the water. Great white sharks also have a good sense of smell. Blue hippo Tang Hippo tangs are a fish. One adaptation is its skin. When it is frightened its skin changes to look inedable. Another adaptation is being an omnivore. It helps it eat more food ( 20% meat 80% plane.) Those are some adaptations of the blue hippo tang fish. If it didn t have these adaptations and was attacked by a shark and wasn t able to change its skin it would get eaten. Hammerhead sharks This shark s is a cool shark because it has a flat head for eating its favorite meal which are stingrays. A hammerhead shark uses its wide head to trap stingrays by pinning them to the seafloor.the Hammerhead shark also has adaptation like using its head to eat stingrays. A hammerhead shark has a flat head to hit prey or predators on the side then bite them! The hammerhead shark hunts to find stingrays that hide under the sand on the seafloor. They have sharp teeth to hunt their prey. They have black skin to camouflage in the dark. They are slimy so they can slide between rocks. Those are all of the adaptations that the viperfish needs to survive.

Harp Seal Pups Harp seal pups live in the ocean. They are mammals and they have lots of adaptations. It is white like the snow when it is a baby because they can not swim and it will blend in with the snow and not get eaten. It has fur to keep it warm when it is in the snow hiding from it s predators. Then if it is cold the harp seal pup stays warm in the snow. The harp seal pup has flippers to help it move around in the snow. When the harp seal pup is big it can use it s flippers to help the harp seal swim around in the water. Great white shark. Great white sharks are fish that live in the water. They have gills to breath to in the ocean. When the baby shark is born the mother will think the baby shark is prey so the baby shark is on its own after it is born. One adaptations is that they can swim and find food when they are babies. The great white shark sprints to its prey using its back fin and its back tail to help it move fast. Another adaptation is they have teeth to tear apart their prey. NARWAL My animal is the narwal. It lives in the Arctic ocean. One adaptation is hey have holes in there tusk to breath. Another is it has a fat body to keep it warm in the cold water. The tusk helps it show off of the tusk for the ladies and fight the males. It helps it not get killed. Those are the adaptations a narwal has to survive in the Arctic ocean. The animal I m about to tell you about is a Brittle Star. A brittle star lives deep in the ocean. The first adaptation I m going to tell you about is Self-Amputaiton. When a predator is near one of a brittle star s arms, it falls off with ease. The second adaptation is Camouflage. Brittle Stars can be bright colors so they can blend in with nearby coral reefs. Blue Whales Blue Whales live in the ocean. They have different adaptations to help them survive in the ocean.
