He got the name because he was able to soar 3 feet off a half-ppe ramp. A half-ppe ramp s lke a bg ppe cut n half, gvng t rounded edges. It s used by skateboarders and n-lne skaters to perform trcks. Chrs, 2, started n-lne skatng when he was 3. He tred the sport after seeng a par of n-lne skates at a bke shop. He lked t because t remnded hm of skng, whch he had done most of hs lfe. They attached wooden spools to strps of wood fastened to the bottom of ther boots. Quad skatng Later, n 863, an Amercan, James Leonard Plmpton, nvented the frst roller skates, wth the wheels sde by sde. In the 970s, new urethane wheels replaced the old metal wheels on "quads," or skates wth four wheels, two sets sde by sde. Also, rubber-tp toe stops helped skaters stop quckly. Skateboardng Skateboardng was nvented by surfers on the West Coast n the early 960s. In 980, two hockey-playng brothers, Scott and Brennan Olson, saw an old n-lne skate n a sportng goods store n Mnnesota. They thought ths desgn would make an deal off-season hockey tranng tool. They began makng n-lne skates n the basement of ther parents' home. People began to notce these hockey players zoomng down the Mnnesota roads n the summer.
