Dates for your Diary 2016 April 22 nd July Can the school children of North Derbyshire collectively run to Rio? We think so! It is over 9000 kilometres from Derbyshire to Rio, host of the 2016 Olympic Games. Run to Rio! is a fantastic, fun challenge which promotes fitness, wellbeing, sport, individual and team achievement. With the added benefit of supporting 3 local charities, Ashgate Hospicecare, Blythe House Hospice and Helen s Trust under the banner #Challenge Derbyshire. It is free to enter Run to Rio! We are encouraging children to raise sponsorship money from friends and family. The school that runs the most kilometres will receive a trophy and the school which raises the most sponsorship money will receive a choice of team kit or sports equipment. Throughout April In the coming weeks, The Springs Shopping Centre will be invaded by a hoard of mannequins designed by local businesses and Blythe House Hospice. The mannequin festival will be an opportunity to not only raise awareness and funds for Blythe House, but for local businesses to add their innovativeness into the campaign as well. There will be opportunities to dedicate sunflowers, buy your own sunflower for your garden and make donations. This is the place to spend your bank holiday weekend as the bands will be playing all afternoon from 1pm till 9pm, Blythe House Hospice collection tins will be at the bar for donations. 8 th May Buxton Junior Inter-club Football Tournament The Mahon family are hosting an inter club football tournament at Silverlands, Buxton FC in memory of Michael Mahon. Everyone is welcome to attend from 11AM onwards and all proceeds will be split between Buxton Juniors Football Club and Blythe House. 9 th 15 th May Dying Matters Week in the Springs We will be in the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton all week talking to people about Dying Matters. If you might be able to 14 th May Snowdon Charity Challenge A group of brave UK Federal-Mogul Graduates, HR Managers and Plant Managers are climbing Mount Snowden to raise money for Blythe House Hospice. 15 th May Bakewell Golf Day Bakewell Golf Club are holding a charity day in aid of Blythe House & Helen s Trust. The day is open to all golfers with a handicap, with hole sponsorship opportunities available. Entry is just 40 per team of 4. Located on the northern edge of the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa, this race is considered by many to be one of the toughest IRONMAN events in the world. Fancy dress optional but there will be a prize awarded to the best outfits. 16 th June Coffee Evening Chinley & Buxworth Women s Fellowship are hosting a coffee evening at the W.I Hall in Chinley. Stalls, cakes and tombola will also be available. 17 th June Cavendish Golf Day Following the incredible success of 2014 s Golf Day we are holding another competition at Cavendish Golf Club. You can support Mike at www.justgiving.com/michaelgray1951 20 th November Light up a Life We are inviting you to remember, celebrate and dedicate a light in support of this year s Light up a Life Festival. The celebration will take place at Blythe House Hospice from 2:30pm 5:30pm and features the Tideswell Male Voice choir and a short service by the Rev d Richard Mottershead at 3:45pm before the beautiful twinkling lights which adorn the hospice inside and out, are switched on. These starry white lights, which shine daily for nearly two months, represent not only celebrated lives and events, but also the vital work of Blythe House Hospice, which every dedication supports. 26 th November (Saturday) Bag Pack 10 th December (Saturday) Bag Pack Regular Events Coffee Mornings Blythe House Hospice have teamed up with Alderbrook Day Services to provide monthly Coffee Mornings at Blythe House between 10:30 and 12:30. The students at Alderbrook will gain excellent hospitality experience to help them pursue a career in the industry. A selection of drinks, cakes and stalls will be at each coffee morning as well as a great chance to learn more about your local hospice. These are the dates to put in your diary: May 20 th June 17 th July 22 nd August 19 th September 16 th October 21 st November 18 th December 16 th Ladies Network Evenings Join us on the second Thursday of each month for an evening of great food, fun activities and even better company. Each month sees a different and imaginative event or theme, such as film nights, comedy evenings, speeches. And of course, parties. Everyone is welcome, just bring a small item of food to share. It s only 5, which includes a glass of wine or soft drink.
