016-17 OPERATIONAL REVIEW COMPETITIONS LEADING TO A PROVINCIAL EVENT Last Updated February 9 @ :30 pm Based on the Competition Committee Review document and conference call comments the Operational Team is prepared to present the following document for the 016-17 competition season. These changes will be reviewed annually to implement the suggestions that were presented from the CRC document. In reviewing the current competition streams the CRC review identified events that lead to a National and Events that lead to a Provincial. Both streams are important in the development of curlers both at the club and competition level. NATIONAL EVENTS PROVINCIAL EVENTS YOUTH U-18 * not National but projected to be Timbits U-1 U-15 U-18 Mixed U-1 Mixed Doubles ADULT Men s Tankard BW & FM Challenges Women s SToH Colts and Trophy Senior Intermediate <35 Master Senior Mixed Mixed Tankards (Two team event) Club Championship Stick Bonspiel Mixed Doubles Wheelchair In youth events leading to a Provincial the objective is to begin our younger curlers in the competitive stream while training and preparing them to advance and eventually represent Ontario at a National event. In adult events leading to a Provincial the objective is to continue or start an adult curler into the competitive stream in preparation of them advancing to one of the events leading to a National. These events also recognize the efforts of the club curler and rewards their achievements with a Provincial banner. In Ontario the majority of curlers are club curlers and a continued approach of offering a competitive outlet is an important part of the Mission of the Ontario Curling Association.

TIMBITS (OPEN EVENT) 015-16 Participation 6 Teams This event is open to curlers currently in Elementary school to compete in an open event that will see the first sixty-four (6) teams participate in a Bonspiel format over one weekend. This event is designed for youth to participate in a very relaxed non-ultra competitive event with their schoolmates. The objective of this event is to expose our youth to games and prepare them for advancement to U-15 and after. Participants must be enrolled at the same elementary school or sister school (in the case of a school that does not have grades 1-8). Open bonspiel for sixty (6) entries from Elementary Schools across Ontario. Teams participate in several events and champions are declared in each event. U-15 BOYS AND GIRLS (New event) This event is designed to expose young curlers from the ages of twelve (1) to fifteen (15) to competition and anticipates that this may be their first exposure to competition. Four () regional competitions will be held across Ontario with on-ice coaching and mentor coaches participating. Teams will participate in a modified round robin against similar calibre teams. The coaching rules will be relaxed for this event in anticipation that this may be the first exposure to competition for both the athletes and coach. Coaches will be given on-ice training with a mentor coach and opportunities to begin their training to become certified as a coach in Ontario. Participants must be members of the same curling facility and actively participate in the youth program of that club. The event will host four () regional spiels on the same weekend with teams registering to participate at their closest location. The event will start on Saturday morning and conclude early Sunday afternoon. Teams will be divided into pools and play a minimum of four games. A points system will be implemented to declare the eventual winner of the event with each competitor receiving recognition awards This is a non Provincial banner event. Coaches will be allowed on the backboard for games in order to develop team dynamics, communications, strategy and other areas of training. A mentor coach will be available at a rate of one per two sheets and will work with each coach during the event to help guide them in the aspects of coaching a youth team.
