Friday 13 th January 2017 Barfield News Website: www.barfieldschool.com Email: admin@barfieldschool.com WELCOME BACK I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Christmas, and I would like to welcome you all back to a new term, and a new year, at Barfield. As usual, a busy term awaits, with the Calendar packed full of exciting events and matches, and I look forward to the school continuing to build upon its recent successes. 2016 was quite a year for Barfield. The "Excellent" ISI Inspection Report and joining The Cothill Educational Trust were two significant, stand-out moments; however, barely a week went by without members of the Barfield community, and those further afield, witnessing an event which showcased the children's talents in one way or another, and a year of these was brought to a wonderful close on the final day of last term with The Carol Service at The Royal Garrison Church. For the first time, we decided to hold a "whole school" Carol Service, and it was a great success. For a montage of photographs, please see the next page. Here's to a great 2017! James Reid A Warm Welcome... to William & Kitty Birkbeck and Kalash & Shristi Rai who have joined us this term. We hope you will be very happy at Barfield. Please note the following changes to the Calendar: Spring Term Calendar Amendments Thursday 2 nd February 2017 (6.15-8.45pm) Thursday 2 nd March 2017 (6.15-8.45pm) Monday 27 th February 2017 (9.00-11.00am) Year 3 Parents Evening (not Year 5 as on the Calendar) Year 5 Parents evening (not Year 3 as on the Calendar) Owls & Owlets - Mill Cottage Farm will be coming to Barfield. Further information to follow in due course. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Connie Gibbs and Miles Cowan who celebrate today and Annabel Manicom and Kitty Birkbeck who celebrate next week.

Holiday Fun In The Nursery Happy New Year everyone, and welcome back to school! The Nursery children had a great time over the Christmas holidays, taking part in lots of activities! We came to school dressed snugly in our pyjamas on the 23 rd December for our 'Night Before Christmas' festivities, we made some cheesy biscuits, enjoyed party dancing, drank hot chocolate and had a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog!! It was so exciting! Throughout the rest of the holidays, the children also had a great time showing off their swimming skills, baking cakes and biscuits and taking long winter walks around the school grounds! The Owls children asked to go into the woods to see if the horses we found in the half-term break were still there we were not disappointed as we counted 7 altogether; 6 adults and a baby foal eating lots of hay for lunch! SPORTS ROUND-UP Wednesday 11 th January Mixed Challenge Match v Grey House U12 1 x 8-a-side (H) Barfield 2 1 / 2 1 1 / 2 Grey House Our U12 boys and girls took on Grey House in a very closely fought Challenge Match. The results were as follows: Log Race - Grey House won by 6 seconds Aeroball - Barfield won 6.5-1.5 Nero's Challenge - Draw Canister challenge - Barfield won by 55 seconds Well done to all involved. Steve Hollands Rugby v Longacre U11 1 x 9-a-side (A) Longacre 4 0 Barfield The boys played a great game at the start of the season. The score did not reflect the game as both teams were evenly matched. Well done to all. Men of the Match were Harrison Blake-Pead and Hamish Forrester. Karl Gibling Mixed Swimming v Grey House U9 1 x 8-a-side (H) Barfield 25 35 Grey House Mixed Swimming v Grey House U8 1 x 8-a-side (H) Barfield 42 19 Grey House Despite it being on the first day of term, all our swimmers were well prepared for, and excited about, competing against Grey House. The standard of swimming was very good and there were some very close finishes. Individual wins were gained by Gabriel Davies, Charlotte Mitchell, Jessica Mitchell, Willoughby Sturridge, Calvin Sucharov and Maya Tilney, the U8 Girls Medley and Freestyle teams. Mr Taylor noted that it is the first time in all his years at Barfield that a team of ours, ie. the U8 team, has been placed 1 st and 2 nd in every race. Ros Milton The Wall Is Up! The Year 6 girls were the first pupils to reach the dizzy heights of the Climbing Wall today! What a fantastic addition to Three Peaks and well done girls for being up for the challenge!
