4 P Golf and Pro Shop News... A Note From The Pro From the Golf Learning Center The Professional Staff is looking forward to having an excellent 2016 golf season. We will continue to improve on the great 2015 season. With the addition of the learning center downstairs opening in early February, there has been some restructuring in the golf operation. Ben Bastel will transition into the Director of Instruction/Player Development role. His main responsibilities will be running the learning center, improving the junior golf program, creating more golf clinics and teaching. Ben will still be heavily involved in the major events and Men s League. Rob Blevins has been promoted to the First Assistant Golf Professional and will be in charge of the WGA and Ladies. Debbie Block will be returning as the merchandising manager. I have hired a seasonal Second Assistant and his name is Jared Shank. Jared is a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a seasonal assistant professional since 2012 at Wheeling Country Club and Pine Tree Golf Club in Boynton Beach, Florida (former top 100 golf course). Jared will start here at WHCC on April 1st and he will be in charge of the Senior Golf Association. I am very excited to see what Jared can bring to the membership here at WHCC. I am currently in the process of hiring the rest of the golf staff for the golf shop and outside operations. Worthington Hills has been selected to host the 2016 Ohio Amateur Qualifier. The event will take place after Memorial Day on Tuesday, May 31st with tee times beginning at 8:00 am and 12 pm off #1 and #10 tees. The course and practice facilities will be closed all day to members. The Senior Golf Association will play on Wednesday, June 1st in tee times starting at 12:30 PM and the Women s Golf Association will play on Thursday, June 2nd in tee times starting at 8:30 AM. I would like to thank the Ohio Golf Association for giving our club the opportunity to host this event and we should be back to hosting the US Senior Open Qualifier in 2017 and years to come. I look forward to seeing all of you at the club! Brian Sparks PGA Head Golf Professional For those of you who don t know me, my name is Ben Bastel. I m heading into my third season with Worthington Hills and will be taking over a new roll at the club as the Director of Instruction and Player Development. I am currently going through the Trackman Certification process and am excited to use this valuable tool to help you play the best golf you can. Check the Monthly Newsletter and Worthington Hills App for tips and videos to help you get better in 2016 and email me any time to schedule a lesson or fitting at bbastel@ worthingtonhills. With the anticipated popularity of The Learning Center, a.k.a. The Center, we have a few policies and procedures set in place to help manage its use. Members will be able to use the Trackman Simulator to practice, play, take lessons and receive club fittings. Times can be booked in 30 minute or 60 minute intervals and can be scheduled by calling the Golf Shop. Based on availability members will be permitted a maximum of 60 minutes for practice, lessons, and fittings. Playing golf takes a little longer and can be booked through the pro shop for a maximum of 4 golfers at a time. Guests are permitted to use the Trackman Simulator for practice or play for a guest fee that can be billed to the member s account. Members must accompany guests at all times. If a member is not able to be there with a guest, a member of the golf professional staff must be arranged in advance to accompany the guest at the regular lesson rate plus usage fee. After Hours: The Center will be open during times that may not be associated with the Golf Shop s regular business hours. These After Hours will be primarily in the early spring season. The policies and procedures during these times will be similar to regular Learning Center hours. We recommend that you make your reservation prior to the close of regular business hours with the golf shop to assure you receive a time. General rules and regulations: - During regular hours and after hours please do not extend your time on the Trackman Simulator. We want to give every member an opportunity to use this valuable tool. - Please be courteous to all members and guests using the Trackman Simulator for lessons, fittings, play or practice. We ask that you control your volume and respect the player and teacher/fitter s space when walking in the area. - The second hitting bay is available on a first-come-first-serve basis for irons and wedges only. Please do not use fairway woods or drivers on the second hitting bay. - Please be careful with all food and beverage while in The Center. Food and drinks are not permitted in the simulator or on the computer cabinet. The member is responsible for any damage from food or drinks with the computer systems, simulator or Trackman. Please see next page for fees and schedule
