Introduction SA MAF President and Committee Welcome Welcome to the SA MAF Information & Registration pack, it has been prepared to inform you of important dates and commitments in regard to the Football Carnival to be held in Darwin during the week of 28 September 2008 to Saturday 4 October 2008. There are important dates in this pack that you need to be aware of. We are aware that in the past the communication to players regarding the Carnival has varied from none to good so to ensure we address this issue this pack has been prepared. Hopefully it goes some way to resolving the issue and we also welcome your feedback and suggestions to further improve. The MAF Carnivals are an enjoyable experience, where you will develop lifelong friendships with people from within your State and Nationally. It is our goal, as a committee, to make the Carnival experience as enjoyable as possible and we encourage new players and past Carnival players to get involved and make it a family experience. We would like to thank in advance the many people who will make this another successful event; the Coaches, Trainers, Umpires, Team Managers, and Committee members. Carnival Registration & Time Table Over the past few years there has been an increasing interest from players in attending carnivals, to ensure an equitable process for selection of teams the following has been prepared to assist. It is a SA MAF goal to send a team in each of the age groups to every Carnival. The age groups are (teams may be known by the age groups only in future): Supers Under 40 Masters 41 to 45 Seniors 46 to 50 Super Seniors Over 50 Additional teams will be registered if sufficient additional players are interested. As there are usually more players interested than required the following set of rules apply to ensure equity for all players gaining a spot in the team: Players who attended the previous year Carnival will be given preference if they confirm their intention to attend by the 30 April, otherwise they will be considered the same way as all other players, There will be 25 players maximum per team, Players will be placed in the appropriate team based on their age, unless coaches negotiate a change to another team for a player, Players are considered registered for a team once the SA MAF Carnival Director has the players Registration Form and Money (Not one or the other). The SA MAF Carnival Director will confirm inclusion in a team. (eg via email) Cut off Registrations and clothing 15 June 2008 All players interested in attending the carnival must: Complete a Registration Form, Player Information Form and pay the appropriate amount to the SA MAF Carnival Director, (First 25 players per team accepted), Purchase a South Australian MAF polo top, football Guernsey, socks and shorts. Arrange your own transport and accommodation for the Carnival, Have fun and enjoy the spirit of the MAF Carnivals. In previous years deadline dates have not been met and confusion becomes an issue, from 2008 please don t look for favors if you haven t met the Important Dates listed below, it is your responsibility. 4 of 11 September 2007

The Cost of the Carnival to you will be: The Carnival is run at a break even cost to SA MAF, all players are required to pay $400 plus optional clothing to the SA MAF Carnival Director by 15 June 2008. Don t forget to book a ticket to the final night for your partner and any tickets to the Hall of Fame Night. Players are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation for the carnival. Details of who is in which team and updated details relating to the Carnival and costs will be posted on the SA MAF Web Site www.sa.maf.asn.au What you get for your money Do I need it? Cost Final Night Event (per person) The final night is an event for all players wives, trainers, umpires etc from all States and there are usually over 1,500 people at the event. Carnival Events AFL Grand Final (Saturday Afternoon) The Darwin MAF are organizing a room and big screen at the Casino Psycho Night A fun night for the whole family What is it? The psycho night is a fun night for all South Australians to socialize, awards are presented to those who have been nominated for doing a What the!! or spitting the dummy. Anyone can nominate anyone as long as the nomination is with the Social Director the day before the event. MAF SA put some money on the bar to get the night rolling. When is it held? It is usually held on the Friday night during the Carnival. The venue will be decided and communicated to all at the Wednesday game. How do I nominate someone? All you need to do is write who? And what they did to be nominated and give it to the Social Director the day before the night. Opening Ceremony - March Out What is it? This is the official opening of the Carnival where players gather together in their States to march out for photos. You are required to wear your State polo top during the march out. When is it held? The march out is held on the first day of play around 12:00 or 1:00 Final Night Dinner What is it? This is the closing night and a celebration of the carnival, it is a great opportunity for all players to get to know each other better and reminisce about the games won and lost. When is it held? The Final night dinner is held on the Saturday night after the last game. The home State organizes the event. What are the rules on attendance? All players pay for the dinner when you register and therefore everyone is expected to attend. Hall of Fame Legends Dinner What is it? and When is it held? The dinner will be held on the Tuesday night and is the ceremony to introduce new members to the National Masters Hall of Fame Dinner and sometimes drinks are included in the price and a guest speaker will entertain you. An open auction of sporting memorabilia is also conducted on the night. How do I find out more about it? Speak to the Social Director for more information Match Days When do I need to arrive? Please arrive at the game at least an hour before the start time. Before the first game you will be asked to arrive earlier for team photos to be taken. We encourage you to attend all the games where SA is playing. The support is always a helping hand to get you over the line. After your Game See you Team Manager after the game for a voucher for a free drink from the beer tent, in addition at some carnivals players have been asked to nominate their best three players for the game and these votes are counted at the end of the carnival to award the State Best & Fairest. Trainers? The trainers are all qualified and can assist with taping etc. Please remember they are there because they love football and they don t get much for their services so please get to know them and make them feel wanted. 8 of 11 September 2007
FAQ ABOUT THE NATIONAL CARNIVAL Q. Age group conditions. If you are 39 years of age but turn 40 this year what age group do you play? A. You are eligible for the 40 to 45 Masters Team Q. Can I play in a younger age group to fill in if required? A. Yes you can play down age groups if the coaches require players Q. What is the maximum number of players per team? A. 24 is the max number of players per team and all players will be given a fair amount of playing time Q. How many games do I have to play to qualify? A. You need to play three games during the year to qualify for the Carnival Q. Do I get preference if I have traveled before to represent the state? A. Yes you do get a preference and it consists of being able to register and pay earlier than players who did not go to the previous carnival. If you do not register and pay before the early cut off date you will be treated equally with all other players Q. Can I play more than one game per day at the carnival. In case another state side is riddled with injury? A. You can play as many games as you are fit to play if teams are looking for players. Of course the age ruling applies. Q. Can I play for another state if they are short and I am not playing for SA on the day? A. You can play for any State Q. What if I pay my money and then circumstances change and I can t go? A. You are entitled to a refund of all funds that have not been spent. Eg If Final night dinner is paid by MAF SA it is not refunded 9 of 11 September 2007
