1 CLUBHOUSE 1.1 Club Prestonfield Golf Club is a limited company and is made up of Captain, Vice-Captain, Lady Captain and 9 Directors. There is currently a President, Findlay Black and Vice President, Jimmy Bremner. It has a Club Secretary part-time, Admin Assistant part-time, Club Steward, Bar Manager, Director of Golf, Assistant Professional and Pro Shop Assistant part-time. The Club Secretary is Carol King and the Admin Assistant is Jenny McKenzie. The office is open from 0830 to 1400 Monday to Thursday and 0830 to 1300 Friday. There is a telephone answering service for queries outside of these hours. It is advisable to email non urgent enquiries to carolking@prestonfieldgolf.com as emails are picked up regularly. 1.2 Board of Directors Photographs of the Board of Directors (council) are displayed at the entrance hall to the main building and in section 4.5.of this document. All Directors and staff are happy to assist members with their enquiries or information regarding the club. Communications are made to the members on a fairly regular basis via email. Please let us know if you are not receiving our emails. Sign up to Twitter and Facebook for regular updates and information. 1.4 Security We ask all members to be vigilant when accessing the clubhouse by door entry swipe-card and to use this method at all times when gaining access to the clubhouse. Please ensure that the door closes behind you at all times. There is a door entry keypad at the locker rooms and clubhouse entrance, primarily for visitors and contractors. Jeans/denims are allowed in the clubhouse (no holes/tears). No footwear that has been worn on the golf course i.e. golf shoes are only allowed in the designated areas i.e. locker rooms and not in the lounge/dining room. All weather proof garments must be removed in the lounge/dining room. Golf equipment, rucksacks and hold-alls are not allowed in the lounge/dining room. Caps or visors must not be worn in the lounge/dining room. Course: Smart casual wear. Golf shoes must be worn. No blue denim jeans, non-collared t-shirts, trainers, football/rugby/motor racing colours or football/rugby style shorts. 1.7 Mobile Phones Mobile phones are not permitted on the course other than in an emergency. Members, their guests and visitors are allowed to use mobile phones in any area of the Clubhouse but must be considerate of other people especially in the lounge or dining room. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the clubhouse. 1.8 Lockers The annual rent for lockers is currently 24 and for hold all lockers is 12. The Club Secretary will be able to advise you if any are available and if not your name will be placed on a waiting list until one becomes available. 1.9 Caddy Shed Keys for the caddy shed are available from the Club Secretary. If you leave your trolley including powered trolleys please note that the club accepts no responsibility for any damage or loss. Please make sure that your name is on your trolley and that you hang your trolley up in a responsible manner and don t leave it in the aisles. 2. GOLF 2.1 Professional The club has a PGA Professional, Gavin Cook, who is our Director of Golf. Gavin is assisted by Colin Robertson our Assistant Professional and Derek Jervis who works part-time in the Pro Shop. Gavin and his team provide a tee booking and starting service and can be contacted on 0131 667 8597. The pro shop provides the following services: Golf Lessons Coaching Sessions Club Hire Gents and ladies sets from leading manufacturers including shoes if required Trolley Hire - Pull and Electric Club Repairs Re-gripping, re-shafting and custom fit A wide selection of clubs, clothing, balls, tees and much more from the leading brands on sale A large selection of bottled water including flavoured, sparkling or still and sweets. 2.2 Tee Booking System Starting times can be booked either through the remote terminal in the clubhouse, the Professional Shop or by members log in over the internet via the members section of the website www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk/members area. Alternate times are available from 9am one week in advance e.g.: 8:00, 8:12 and 8:24. Every other time is then available from 9am one day in advance e.g.: 8:06, 8:18 and 8:30. Each Member on admission will receive a Club Disc from the Secretary to be displayed on their golf bag at all times. These discs must be returned to the Secretary on termination of membership (Bye-Law 2.). No Member shall start play unless their name is first entered on the start sheet in accordance with the conditions thereon. If these conditions are not observed, the name of the player shall be deleted from the start sheet by the Starter or a Director or an Office Bearer. All players must have a set of golf clubs. All players must report to the Starter before teeing off (Bye-Law 9.). Members are asked to cancel tee times they will not use as early as possible for fairness to other members and visitors. 2.3 Competitions Particulars of competitions Please check our website www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk/members sarea for particulars of competitions for gentlemen, ladies and juniors. 2.4 Handicaps In order to compete in a club competition, you must have a valid and up to date handicap. Members transferring in or players who are members of other clubs but wish their home club nominated as Prestonfield should obtain their latest handicap certificate from their former club and post it/ or hand it to the Club Secretary with an explanatory note for the Competition and Handicap Secretary. To obtain a new handicap, or to reinstate a lapsed handicap, three cards must be handed in. These must be clearly marked for handicap. All cards must be marked and signed by a member who has a valid handicap. Members are responsible for reporting away scores as soon as possible after the event, and are therefore responsible for their own handicap and be aware of their playing handicap at all times. The members area of the website www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk allows you to print off a copy of your own handicap. 2.5 CDH (Central Database of Handicaps) Prestonfield feeds golf scores into the CDH programme. Members should be aware of their CDH number (obtained from CDH Book in lounge). Please ensure you provide your CDH number when entering competitions away from home. This will keep your handicap up to date. 2.6 Greens We have a Head Greenkeeper, Douglas McKenzie, Assistant Head Greenkeeper, Mark Scott, and 4 Greenkeepers, T Kemp, Bob McKenzie, Stephen Thomas and JP Kelly. Any comments or queries on the course or greens should be directed through our Greens Convenor, currently Dave Stoddart. We issue information about course conditions on Twitter, Facebook and the website www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk and inform members of course work via email. In the winter, Prestonfield has a notice on the first tee advising whether preferred teeing is in operation or whether mats are optional or compulsory. Winter mats can be purchased from the Pro Shop. 2.7 Care of the Course Guidance on this and on general etiquette is included in the Fixture Card. Play from medal tees is only permitted during medal play or in recognised matches or club competitions. During May, June, July and August members are allowed to play from medal tees in non-medal games. Notices are displayed during inclement weather with regard to the use of Buggies and are at the sole discretion of the Head Greenkeeper or Greenkeeper on duty if at weekends. 2.8 Local Rules 1. Out of Bounds - A ball lying: (a) over any wall or fence bounding the course. (b) in or over the Braid Burn. (c) In the car park to the left of the 1st fairway. (d) on the practice putting green. (e) On any stoned pathways or in any shrubbery garden areas around the clubhouse and the practice putting green. (f) In or over the ditch marked by white posts to the left of the 16th (the former practice area). 2. Stones in Bunkers (Rule 24-1) Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions. 3. Water Hazard (Rule 26-1) The open ditch area on the 14th fairway (defined by yellow posts) is a water hazard. 4. Fixed Sprinkler Heads (Rule 24-2) All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions. In addition, if such an intervenes obstruction on or within two club lengths of the putting green of the hole being played, on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows: If the ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and is within two club lengths of the intervening obstruction, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay which (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids such intervention and (c) Is not in a hazard or on a putting green. 5. Staked Trees (Rule 24-2b ( i ) ) Protection of young trees and shrubs identified by stakes: If such a tree or their supports interferes with a player s stance or their intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2 ( i ). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted. 6. Integral Parts of the Course (a) All Astroturf paths are integral parts of the course (the ball must be played as it lies or declared unplayable - Rule 28 applies). (b) All other paths within the course boundaries and the stoned drain to the left of the 15th green. A ball coming to rest on any of the above may be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b ( i ). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted. 7. Immovable Obstructions (Rule 24-2) (a) Wooden steps, (b) Wooden edges to paths, (c) Shelters, (d) Drinking fountain, (e) Fixed seating, (f) Toilet are deemed to be immovable obstructions 8. Distance Measuring Devices For all play at Prestonfield Golf Club a player may obtain distance information by a device that measures distance only. However, if during a stipulated round a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge other conditions that might affect their play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used. 9. Use of Buggies Players must walk at all times during any Prestonfield Competition (including Hole & Hole ties) unless the use of motorised buggies is approved by the Committee on medical grounds. 10. Pitch Marks Please remember to replace all divots, repair all pitch marks and use the sand and seed provided on the tees. Please check our website at www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk to see what is available. 3.1 Edinburgh Golf Edinburgh Golf is a working partnership between 13 golf clubs in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. All 13 clubs are working together to increase the value of being a member at an Edinburgh Golf Club. A member of one of the 13 clubs can play at an exclusive discount rate at any of the other courses. Terms and Conditions of Edinburgh reciprocal agreement Bookings are subject to availability, and must be made prior to arrival the following, accompanied with photographic ID, will serve as proof of membership and must be presented to the starter on arrival: You must have an official handicap certificate Bookings can also be made through the members home club secretary - Photo ID must still be presented on arrival. Courses have the right to amend prices and availability as they wish, please confirm the price on making the booking In the event that visiting members have made a booking and cannot attend, please call and cancel the booking. Golf outings must be arranged in advance. Clubs have the right to charge full rates for golfing outings. Please arrange outings with the club. 3.2 Association of James Braid Golf Courses Prestonfield is a Member of the association of James Braid Golf Courses and as a result members of the club have the opportunity to play other James Braid courses at an agreed discounted rate. Courses either have to have been designed by James Braid or redesigned or altered by him to be eligible to join. The advantage of being a member of the Association is that members of the clubs can play at all other member clubs for a reduced green fee, subject to tee availability. Tee times can be arranged on request. Please check our website members area for further information on how to book etc. 3.3 Functions and Corporate Facilities Our Bar and catering departments are led by our Club Steward Grahame Vallance and the Bar Manager Annie Vallance. Golf club snack and meals are available seven days a week, however, in winter there is a reduced schedule for mealtimes see Section 1.5 for information on availability. The clubhouse is available for all members and their immediate families for parties, dinners and functions. We also cater for weddings, funerals and fundraising/charity events. Our dining room and bar area spilts into three sections and can be hired at a cost of 20 per section. All three sections will accommodate approx 90/100 persons. The club also has a meeting room that is ideal for business meetings, seminars and workshops. Our packages are tailored to suit your needs and are provided with or without catering and with or without golf. Free Wi-Fi is available at the club and a TV and projector is available. Prestonfield Golf Club s Facebook user name is Prestonfield Golf Club. 4.2 Website Our new website address is www.prestonfieldgolf.co.uk. This is where you will find all you need to know about our golf club. It includes up to date news and information on the club, the course, functions and how to book, the Pro Shop, competitions and fixtures. It has a calendar of events and shows different events by colour e.g. Gents = yellow, ladies = purple, social = pink etc. You can access the Members Area by clicking the Members Area tab using your Prestonfield Golf Club unique ID and password which is given to you when you join.
