A Publication of Corvettes Limited of Bowling Green Visit Us At: http://corvetteslimitedofbowlinggreen.com Volume CIV July 2016 Number 07 Presidents Message Larry Crosbie Welcome to summer in the Commonwealth and too many car events to attend. Before we left for vacation we enjoyed the Owensboro riverfront evening called Corvettes After Five. Last weekend I cruised to Bloomington Gold at the Indianapolis Speedway. A couple Indy pictures are attached somewhere in this edition. They honored the 1966 corvette as they celebrated its 50 year anniversary. Did anyone else from the club attend? I am also enjoying a couple weeks off to rest up. While the Assembly Plant postpones tours during the startup phase of the 2017 Grand Sport Corvettes. Don t forget, we will not have a meeting in July as the Museum prepares for Thunderfest this weekend, and a group of us plan to attend the Nascar races at Kentucky Speedway the following Saturday. If any of you haven t toured the Museum lately, the cave/sinkhole display and the new Indy car room are quite interesting. If a group of us would like, we could arrange a VIP Museum tour this week or next and possibly combine it with lunch at the Café. Call me and one of our club s trained Museum guides can take the lead. Keep checking your email for activity updates in July. We have the Corvette Homecoming in Bowling Green, Corvette Summer in Somerset, and the Yellow Creek show in Owensboro just to name a few. Corvette Summer Somernites Cruise July 23-24 in Somerset KY This is the one you don t want to miss! Somerset Kentucky is once again hosting their famous Cruse In, and July features the Corvette. They will hold their normal Cruise events, including Thunder Block Party, Fun Run, auto showcase with over 1,000 vehicles of all varieties, as well as many raffles, door prizes and food, food, food. But wait, there s more! New for 2016 is the FIRST CORVETTE CRUISE ALONG KENTUCKY'S HIGHWAY 192, the "RATTLESNAKE"! This section of highway between London and Somerset has been newly designated by the county officials for its many curves (150 turns in one 11-mile stretch). They are promoting it for motorcycle runs and, of course, Corvettes. And Don Franklin Chevy has arranged a cruise through the curves for the Corvettes. Now, THAT sounds like fun! Proceeds from the event will fund a Veterans and Wounded Warrior Recognition Luncheon at the National Corvette Museum in November as part of Military Appreciation Month! Registration is required, and pre-registration is recommended. July 14-16, 2016 The Homecoming is back, bigger and better than ever. This year the show will include Corvettes and the full Chevy line. Activities and judging events span all three days. At least 29 vendors will be there, including Mid- American Motorworks, Corvettes Clocks by Roger, Bob s Vette Shop, and many more. General Admission is available at $10 per day per person Thursday thru Saturday. For more information, go to the following link: https://www.corvettehomecoming.com/ CLBG National Corvette Museum Ambassador Fred Kayser There is no better time than now to get in your Corvette and go for a cruise, whether it be on a day-trip on the back roads, an overnighter somewhere, or a short trip to the NCM and MotorSports Park. You can increase the fun factor by inviting other club members to join you. The featured display at the NCM are Indy cars. The MSP has quite a variety of events scheduled during the month of July. Check out the details at www.motorsportspark.org. A raffle is scheduled for July 7 (Arctic White Stingray convertible), July 28 (Shark Gray Z06 coupe), and September 3 (Black Stingray convertible). Membership in the museum has many benefits. If you are not presently a member, please consider becoming one. And Finally Larry Crosbie has provided this photo as a challenge to use our auto expertise and identify this car. The first hint you have is that it is from Larry. Hmm. Here are a few possibilities you can ponder: 1. This was his rental car on his European trip. 2. This was a trade he was considering for his Vette. 3. This was the prize he won in the Legs N Lederhosen contest. Or none of the above. What do you think is the story of this little gem? Larry will let us know at the August meeting! Oh, ja, ja.
