Today s game will be televised on ESPN2, the first national television appearance for the Owls in more than three years and the first ever from FAU Arena. A win today would match the Owls longest winning streak since the 1990-91 season. Today s game is a Blue Out with fans encouraged to wear blue for the game. STARTERS 2010-11 11 STATS No. Name Pos. Wojociech Myrda (535, ULM) is the leader for career blocks among current Sun Belt members. This season, Royster is 6th in the nation in blocked shots on the year. TAKING CARE OF THE BALL: FAU is 34th in the nation in turnovers per game at 11.7 per game. The point guard tandem of Raymond Taylor and Alex Tucker and are 2nd and 3rd in the conference, respectively in assist/ turnover ratio. Tucker and Taylor are 1st and 2nd in school history in career assist turnover ratio. In the Owls 61-59 win over Mississippi State, FAU had just four turnovers which set a school record for fewest turnovers in a game. A HISTORY OF SUCCESS: Mike Jarvis is one of only eight coaches to win at least 100 games at three different Division I institutions (Boston University, George Washington, and St. John s). He is the only one of those eight to also have won 100 games at the high school level (Cambridge Rindge and Latin School). FATHER AND SON: In 1992-93 FAU's associate head coach Mike Jarvis II began his collegiate coaching career as a first-year assistant working with his father, Mike Jarvis, at George Washington. Jarvis has made 9 NCAA Tournament appearances and from 1992-00 his teams (GW & STJ) advanced to postseason play in each season. As a coach, Jarvis II has reached the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 four times. He owns four conference championship rings and was essential in St. John's National Invitational Tournament (NIT) Championship title in 2003 and the Red Storm's run into the NCAA Tournament's South Regional Final (Elite 8) in 1999. The Jarvises are one of only two African-American father-son coaching duos in Division I, the other is Tubby and Saul Smith at the University of Minnesota. CONTUINITY BREEDS SUCCESS: The Owls will have an unprecedented level of consistency this season, both on the floor and on the bench. FAU not only returns 10 letterwinners from the 2009-10 season, it also brings back its entire coaching staff for a third consecutive season. VARIETY OF WEAPONS: The Owls have four players (Gantt, Richardson, Royster, Taylor) who have averaged at least 10 points a game for an entire season) and seven (adding Tucker, Mavin and White) who have scored 15 points in a game during their career. Royster, Richardson, Tucker, Gantt and Taylor all have more than 500 career points.

NEWS and NOTES (cont.) WORK ETHIC: Dennis Mavin and Greg Gantt frequently attended FAU volleyball matches during the season. Why? After the facilities staff converted the court back to basketball, Gantt and Mavin got extra work in on the court after the match was over. When the team held a Christmas Day practice last season, Gantt was in the gym two hours early working on his jumper. RECORD BREAKERS: FAU has two players within sight of notable school records: Brett Royster: 605 career rebounds (FAU record: 717 - Carlos Monroe) Alex Tucker: 371 career assists (FAU record: 505 Ernest Crumbley) Royster is already FAU s career blocked shots leader with 270. Tucker holds the school record with 16 assists in a game. Raymond Taylor s 177 assists last season set a single season school record. Others in Pursuit: Greg Gantt 127 career three-pointers (Quinton Young, 129, 7th all-time) Shavar Richardson 116 career threepointers (Greg Gantt, 127, 8th all time) Raymond Taylor, 255 career assists (Brent Crews, 273, 3rd all-time) FAMILIAR FACES: The Owls return 1,905 of last season s 2, 202 points (86.7%), 930 of last year s 1,061 rebounds (87.6%) and all but 18 of last season s 461 assists. EUROPE TRIP: The Florida Atlantic men s basketball team took a 10-day trip to Europe over the summer. The tour included stops in Amsterdam, Belgium and Paris. ROAD WARRIORS: In December, the Owls went on a five game, 13-day road trip that covered 5,354 miles and included seven hotels, five games and four buses. FAU went 3-2 on the trip, including their first 2-0 start in Sun Belt play since 2006-07. FAU SIGNS COMER TO NLI: FAU has signed Brett Comer to a National Letter of Intent. Comer, a 6-3 senior from Winter Park, FL (Winter Park HS) helped his high school team to the 6A state title last season and his AAU won the Super Showcase Tournament over the summer. Comer will join the Owls for the 2011-12 season. TWO OWLS NAMED TO ALL- TOURNAMENT TEAM: Guards Greg Gantt and Alex Tucker were both named to the All-Tournament team at the season opening Athletes in Action Classic, held in Portland, OR November 12-14. Tucker averaged 14 points, just under four assists and three rebounds a game for the weekend. Gantt averaged 14 points a game, despite missing most of the first game. Of the five losses, two (1/2/10 vs. South Alabama and 2/25/10 vs. WKU) came in overtime and another was a three point loss in regulation (12/29/09 vs. Hofstra). SUNSHINE BOYS: Mike Jarvis and his coaching staff have made a dedicated effort to recruit the state of Florida. Eight players on the Owls current roster hail from the state of Florida. OWLS CLIMBING THE RPI: The Owls had a program high RPI of #34 earlier this season. FAU s current RPI of 102 is the best among Sun Belt teams. DEFENSIVE-MINDED: FAU has held nine opponents to less than 40% shooting from the field. The Owls are 9-0 in those contests. The Owls are first in the Sun Belt in field goal defense, holding the opposition to 41.4% shooting from the field on the season. RUNNIN OWLS: The Owls have had runs of 21-0 (Florida Memorial), 18-0 (Arkansas State), 13-0 (at Western Kentucky) and 10-0 (Mississippi State) this season. INCREASED INTEREST: In the three seasons prior to Coach Jarvis arrival, FAU averaged 920 fans for their home games. In the 2+ seasons since he was hired, FAU has averaged 1,100 fans for each home game.

MIKE JARVIS Head Coach (3rd season) 394-250 Overall Record (34-48 48 at FAU) Northeastern 68 NCAA Head Coaching Experience 1985-90 90 Boston University 1990-98 98 George Washington 2008-pres. Florida Atlantic University Mike Jarvis is in his 22 nd season as a Division I men s basketball head coach and his third as coach of the Florida Atlantic University Owls. Jarvis accomplishments place him among the nation s elite college basketball coaches, having led three different programs into the NCAA Tournament during stops at Boston University (1985-90), George Washington University (1990-98) and St. John s University (1998-04). At Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) formally named Rindge Technical High School Jarvis flourished as a young head coach, guiding the city s lone public high school to three-consecutive state titles (1979, 80 and 81), while compiling a near-perfect 77-1 record during that span. Jarvis prep players at CRLS included Patrick Ewing, Rumeal Robinson and current George Washington head coach Karl Hobbs. Jarvis remained at CRLS until Boston University (BU) offered him the opportunity to begin a collegiate head coaching career in 1985. Immediate success ensued when Jarvis guided the Terriers to a 21-10 record and a berth into the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in his first season. He won two ECAC North Atlantic Conference Championships (1988 and 90) and made three postseason tournament appearances at BU. Jarvis became the program s all-time winning coach (101-51 record) and led the Terriers to the NCAA Tournament twice (1988 and 90). Prior to his arrival, the Terriers had gone to the Big Dance just two times in its 26-year history. In 1990, Jarvis accepted his first coaching position outside the state of Massachusetts, taking over at George Washington University (GW) in Washington D.C. Jarvis immediately transformed GW into one of the nation best teams, finishing 19-12 in his first season (1990-91) and earning an invitation into the NIT. Making his initial accomplishments at GW even more impressive was the fact that the Colonials were just one year removed from a 1-27 campaign in 1988-89. In his third season at GW, Jarvis led the Colonials to its first 21-win season in 38 years. That 1992-93 team qualified for the first of four NCAA Tournament appearances during Jarvis tenure at GW and went on to advance into the tournament s Sweet 16. An 18-12 season and return trip to the NCAA in 1993-94 firmly positioned GW among the nation s top college programs. Jarvis compiled a 152-90 record in eight consecutive winning seasons at GW, leading the Colonials to seven postseason tournament appearances and three 20-win seasons. During a record-setting final year in 1997-98, the Colonials would achieve a university-best national ranking of No. 17 by the Associated Press. Jarvis knack for recruiting and developing national and international talent at GW resulted in 11 players scoring more than 1,000 points during their careers. He became just the second men s basketball coach in the program s history to be elected to the George Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame. After outstanding tenures at BU and GW, the 13-year coaching veteran accepted the challenge of coaching a storied St. John s University program in Queens, New York that had enjoyed just one winning season in the five years prior to his appointment. That same season, Jarvis was elected president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Again success was immediate as Jarvis led the Red Storm to a 28-9 record in his first season at St. John s and his first appearance in an NCAA Regional Final just one step away from the Final Four. From 1998-04, in six seasons (five complete), Jarvis went 110-61 at St. John s. Under his direction, the Red Storm won the BIG EAST Tournament Championship in 2000 and won the NIT Championship at Madison Square Garden in 2003. Following his experience at St. John s, Jarvis moved to Boca Raton and embarked on a new career as a basketball analyst for ESPN and Yahoo. Since that time, he also has become a motivational speaker and launched an Internet broadcast service, Jarvis TV, that enables colleges and community organizations such as churches to stream live events and programming over the Internet. FAU has offered Jarvis his fourth collegiate head coaching stop. Like Jarvis rapid climb among the collegiate coaching ranks, FAU has made a rapid ascent from the program s first season in 1988-89. After just five years, FAU made the transition into Division I. One of just eight active coaches to have won 100-plus games at three different schools, Jarvis hopes to join Lefty Driesell as one of just two to have done so with four. 16. Despite not taking over the FAU program until May 2008, Jarvis was able to sign a four-player class that included Shavar Richardson, who led all Sun Belt freshmen in scoring and Alex Tucker, who set school records for assists in a game and a season. For his second season, Jarvis signed a seven-player class that included Raymond Taylor, who broke Tucker s school record for assists in a season and Greg Gantt, who was among the league leaders in scoring and three-point percentage. Both players were named Third-Team All-Sun Belt at the season s end. Jarvis and his wife, Connie, live in Boca Raton and have two adult children, Mike II and Dana Shaiyen, along with two grandchildren, Geoffrey and Ian.
